They also say it was so much easier to shoot on a tape and have it ready to edit and add effects for within the hour instead of a day turn around. Lucas also loved watching the footage in HD on set during the take and for playback. I can agree with that but I don't agree with them having to have it within the hour instead of a days turnaround.

I'm pretty sure that if something is in 6.1 discrete, it will bypass the PL IIx. I always keep my PL IIx turned on while watching movies, and on the LotR EE, which is 6.1 discrete, it plays in 6.1. It doesn't matrix it out to 7.1.

When a 6.1 surround movie plays through my setup, the receiver produces the same audio out both surround back speakers. Idk if that's a matrix or not, but idk how you could get 6.1 discrete with 7.1 speakers, I guess one of the back speakers would not be active, idk. I'm fine with how my setup works though, never had a problem with the surround back speakers, I can't wait to here all 6 movies with 6.1 audio though, really wished Episodes 1-3 on DVD didn't have the encoding problem, but this blu-ray set will give me a new experience with those movies!!

It is very noticable in Michael Bay's Transformers movies. Flesh tones appear orange and it just doesn't look natural, IMO.
I noticed that the last film definatly had a teal tinge to it, I felt that the first two movies (despite having over saturated oranges) didn't have such a colour scheme. The teal tint just annoyed me.

All this hype is really turning me off. I think it's enough already. Yes, we know the Blu is coming out, I am sure people in the Amazon know it by now. All these stupid event's and "reveals" are idiotic. It's overkill and is nauseating me.

I have now watched the Original Trilogy from Blu Ray (with all the NEW changes) and have decided to stick with my UK HDrip. The new changes just annoy me too much. No, I wont be buying the Blu Rays. I have purchased the Star Wars movies enough times already since the original VHS box set. Lucas just keeps changing them and they just aren't the same movies anymore to me. I'll get it someday just for the extra's when it's cheaper. Having been a Star Wars fan since 1977 this may surprise some, but I am a Quality over Quantity type of person, and I just don't like the changes and buying new versions of the same movies ever 5 years. The 3D coming out is worthless and just a gimmick to milk a 30+ year old movie to death (again), so I wont watch or get them either. I'll stick with the good Krayte Dragon call (the new one is utterly horrible) and Jabba's door not looking like a bad Photoshop redo.

'Star Wars – The Complete Saga', released on 12 September, will see all six films remastered and available on Blu-ray for the first time, but will also see James Earl Jones' voice replaced in a key scene by Hayden Christensen, in a drastic change to the Emperor's death scene. Some fans have cancelled their pre-orders of the box-set in response, so we thought it was the perfect time to look back at some of the most controversial changes that have been made in the past.

I agree with those who are against the prevalence of teal/orange shifting not just in filming today's movies but in releasing older movies on BD.

AOTC has a strong (at least to me) teal shift based on images I've seen from the upoming BD. It just doesn't look right.

I've never been a fan of this teal/orange fad, but as I play my Blu-rays on my PC I find I can adjust it out by fiddling around with the colour settings in PowerDVD.

Even so, I shoudn't have to do this, and I assume that those with standalone Blu-ray players don't have colour balance settings? Or perhaps the TV settings could be adjusted. Whatever, it shouldn't be necessary.

I agree. I don't know why they have to do this. I honestly don't understand how turning a movie green makes it look better.

P.S.- I like that video in your sig.

I discovered -- with the LOTR FOTR BD "teal" issue -- that this can be fixed by adjusting the HUE on your HDTV a few notches. It is not a "perfect" fix, but it does work.

I don't like it when they change colors around. I still haven't bought FOTR because of the screenshots I saw.

This is one of the reasons why I haven't bought any of the LoTRs on bluray yet.

Same here. I check reviews and screenshots of anything I buy because assuming something on BD will be high quality isn't always going to turn out well. I can't think of specifics but there are some older movies that have undergone hue shifts for BD releases and it just looks out of place.

Don't get the obsession. A slight hue can make a scene look better but in excess it just looks phony. It looks like Lucas caught the bug and decided to add the teal to AOTC. There was a screenshot of Tatooine and instead of a nice, warm, bright sunny image you get a weird, green, dark one.

To be fair it was only the fellowship disc that had the color timing changed slightly, and the whole issue was blown out of proportion.

It is often critizized that Lucas sits in his ivory tower and has lost connection to the fans. To me that is a good thing. It shows that he is an artist and not just a businessman. He wants to make the versions closest to his heart and with the most integrity and honesty possible. That I support all the way!

How come the fans suddenly think they know more about what Star Wars is than the man who created it and are entitled to talk down to Lucas and make demands?
Great post with great points. If lucas didn’t care he would just up convert the dvds to blu ray do nothing more and cash in. The fact that he changes anything shows he cares about these movies. If people don’t like the changes that’s fine but calling him greedy for it makes absolutely no sense.
