Even with the dollar being worth so little nowadays? Nah, you'd need about twice as many sickening posts.

Just for kicks, I looked up how much $80 would equal in 1977...$21.46.

There's certain things I'd prefer remain intact, but overall, its still "Star Wars". There's never been another film franchise that's affected so many people over the years...and whether you agree with Lucas or not, no one can deny that's an incredible accomplishment.
The toys are what made Star Wars what it is today.
The movies just enforced what kind of character are behind the toys.
Lucas knew the movies were all about selling toys and to connect with kids, which does does not require a deep meaning story or cognitive breakthrough to make a connection with kids.
Star Wars IS a kids movie and if everyone would just accept it for what it is, then every change made up to this point and the future will be accepted.

Might as well break out the DVD.
Those with projectors, large screens and adequate viewing distance will still suffer from the PQ and storyline changes.
I don't fall into this category BUT have been distracted while viewing certain BDs that have been blessed with opinions of good PQ.

And this is why I think a home video format was never meant to be see on screens/projectors of the mega size in homes.

To me, that's just not a fair assessment of the product at all. Some people can't afford the mega screens and projectors in their homes. Are their assessments of this set wrong if they view the discs on a 42" screen at an average viewing distance?

Who's right?

That's because of the widescreen ratio 2:35:1. Nothing to worry about. Most movies on BD aren't actually using the full pixel count.
Episode II was cropped to obtain the scope aspect ratio.

I was suggesting that trotting out the tired 'raped my childhood' strawman might just maybe belong on the same side of that scale as the negativity you were supposedly decrying.

Just a thought...

I don't think so. Remember, film licensing was almost unheard of in the '70s. The main reason Lucas got the majority of those rights was because back then, studios weren't interested in them. None of the "suits" thought the film would make any money, and it wasn't until after "Star Wars" came out, that toys and such became part of a standard contract.

There's lots of kids who are way smarter than adults believe them to be.

Certain aspects of the series may be aimed at kids, but on the whole, there's folks from almost any age group who enjoy them. I was 19 when "Phantom Menace" came out, and I still get a kick out of it. I wouldn't advise parents letting youngsters see "Sith", though; that's pretty intense stuff.

That would require cropping the vertical dimension, not the horizontal one.

1440x1080 is the resolution of the full 16:9 image on HDCAM tape, the pixels are rectangular and stretched to 1920x1080 on playback. I think the 2.35:1 image would have to be obtained from 1440x800-ish pixels on the tape.
Episode 3 was shot on HDCAM-SR tape which has full 1080p resolution.

Saw this posted on a Star Wars fan website. Might have to do something like this for my various bonus discs.

I'd say they are kids movies compared to LOTR (Jackson's versions).

With some simple editing (the mute button and have my kids shut their eyes) I've been able to show SW to my kids when they were young. You just have to know the movies and what to show and not show.

I'd say they were meant for 12 year old boys.

me too. you must be the same age

This is a pretty good, short little spot for the Saga (love the editing ):

All action/adventure swashbuckler type film is inherently for kids, or more precisely boys.

Think about all the awesome violent movies you love, you probably saw them when you were a kid.

I think 7 is a good age for both SW and LotR. you have to give kids credit, many are tougher than you'd think. My parents took me to see Jurassic Park in theaters when I was 5. I was fine with it, and became obsessed with the toys afterward.

I also loved the censored TV versions of Alien/s and Predator (especially Predator...had many toys as well)

7 for Star Wars (maybe with the exception of ROTS) and 10 for LOTR/ROTS imo. I was 11 when FOTR came out and that movie saga came at, I think, the perfect time in my life. It's pretty much why I fell in love with "real" cinema as I got older.

Empire of Dreams was a great documentary. My only gripe with it was that the Emperor was pretty much ignored. It would've been nice to have gotten Ian McDiarmid 's thoughts on the saga.

I think its fascinating that as a younger man, he would play as Palpatine and 16 years later, he would reprise the role playing a younger version of the character even though he himself had gotten older!

That's pretty cool.
I wouldn't mind having one case for every Star Wars DVD and Blu-ray disc out there, but that might be a little much. I've resigned to keeping the DVD's on my shelf. At least they look good on it, unlike many DVDs I have.
