But I should be OK, because everyone in this thread believes in reasonable discourse, right? ...RIGHT?!?

No such thing. Anamorphic is a mean to adapt a 4:3 media (DVD) for a 16:9 display.

BD is 16:9 as is, natively, so there is nothing to adapt. Pixels have a 1:1 relation from media to display.

They would have to make 2.35:1 TVs and projectors for this feature to be useful on BD. I don't see them to become prevalent for the forseeable future.

I'd say it was the right choice.

Don't forget that they also say that Lucas raped their childhood.

I think that idea is complete bull....and yet, I hear it all the time from posters who have larger displays than the average customer.
Agreed. I have a 42" LCD and can easily see the difference between DVD and Blu (I sit at 8.5 feet - or maybe 8 ft).

In fact, when I first got my TV in 2006, I was very disappointed in how Ep 3 looked (at times) and knew I needed blu-ray before it even came out.

Just got my Blu-ray in the post now.

I flicked through all the films (i'll write an Amazon review later) but all I can say in response to Lucasfilm's "fixing" of the Lightsabers is...

LOL

Vader's 'saber now switches from a white core with pink glow, to a pink core with white glow, to a red core with with glow, to a white core with red glow.... all "Artistic decisions", course...

I took these photos with SLR and changed the settings so they match what was on screen as accurately as possible.

Bring back memories anyone? Ho-ho....

I wanted to be the last person to whine about 'changes', but when you see it for yourself on a big screen it just looks silly.

Vaders "No..... NooOOooOoOooo..." isn't as bad as I thought, although it is very high up in the mix.

R2-D2 hiding behind the new CGI is also very smooth and doesn't really alter the scene in any way. Although as we always say, if this is the case then why add it in the first place?

Blinking Ewoks actually look excellent and far more lifelike. A good change... for a change

Some matte-lines are still present for a lot of the battle scenes, but that doesn't bother me as i'm sure they would have looked worse in the original presentation.

Picture quality.... Mehh. Very soft looking for the most part, although as i'll mention in my review, its just so inconsistent. Some scenes look spectacular, and others have very blotchy grain. Some scenes have film 'judder', some don't. Some scenes have fine grain, some have coarse. Some have more film artefacts/spec's, some are immaculate. Doesn't make sense really.

Anyone got any questions while my PS3 is still on?

I'll use the money I saved NOT buying the Prequel Trilogy to buy another, BETTER fantasy saga... the Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition

I'm in Montreal and the thing is that Best Buy is offering the Saga for 79,99$ CAD (= 79,99$ USD plus TAXES and more TAXES) but... the offer ends Sept 15th 2011. I don't want them mailed to me on Friday to arrive next week!! I want to go get the box on Friday at the store. Will the price go back up Friday the 16th?

Any fellow Canadians with ideas?

Assuming that you bought the 9-disc set, how do the old-school documentaries (The Making of Star Wars, SPFX, and Classic Creatures) on Disc 9 look?

Yeesh! Maybe give your screen a wipe before you start making comments on the picture quality.
