Yes, it is an easier connection to make compared to Young Anakin. Granted there's barely a resemblance between unmasked vader and Shaw, the viewer sees an old man as Luke's father and in the end they see another old man amongst Yoda and Ben as opposed to a young man who suddenly appears out of nowhere from the OT. Either way, I think a person would have to be really stupid not to know it's Luke's father whether it's Shaw or Hayden.

For someone who hasn't seen these, would you watch I or IV first?

I would start with the OT first. Then introduce them to the prequels.

This has been answered many times by others with usually one of two options. Most of us would say watch IV, V, VI first, then the prequels. If you're still into it after that, take your pick for how you like to go through them. At this point I like to watch them from I-VI, thereby saving the best (IV, V) for among the last. If you've never seen them before, I still think it's best to see them in filming order as opposed to numerical.

Definitely IV... as a first time viewer I'd probably lose all desire to watch the rest after sitting through Jake Lloyd's line readings.

I'm going to be watching I, II, III, IV, V, VI and recommend that for newbies. IV will probably bore you by itself.

Start with IV, first. It helps preserve a couple of surprises, besides the whole "I am your Father" thing. And it gives the right impression as to what Star Wars and the Force is all about. As much as I like the prequels . . . "They're for ghetto people", to quote a friend of mine.

Okay...I got the blessing from the wife and pulled the trigger on Amazon. $79.99 with no tax and free shipping is just too hard to pass up.

QUESTIONS:

- Is it worth it to do the Amazon Prime free trial?
- If so, will my order ship sooner?
- Is it easy to cancel Amazon Prime before the trial period and NOT be charged $79?

Thanks for the help.

Being a member of Amazon Prime (I'm currently on the free trial for Amazon Student), the answer to all these questions is YES. With prime shipping, you should get the movies on release date, as long as you're home to collect.

I would suggest seeing them 1-6.
But it certainly can be debatable to watch them 4-6, 1-3.

As far as canceling - just don't forget to cancel! It's pretty much just getting to the right screen and clicking cancel or stop or whatever.

You'll be happy with Prime - the free trial is great.

The UK set only has a fraction of the complete image, while the US set gets the full shot (i think)
I thought that the US set got the collage with the OT heroes buried in the upper right corner, and not evenly distributed as you said?

Edit-it's the one with them buried in the corner:

Cool thanks. I reordered with Prime and it says my order will be here on the 16th! Awesome. I also added Halloween II to the order.

After learning that Darth is Luke's father, you go back and watch his history before finishing with Jedi.
This viewing order has been making the rounds for years and I've always maintained that its absurd.

Primarily, the main purpose of this order is to maintain the surprise at the end of "Empire" yet it completely and utterly ruins a similar revelation in "Jedi".

Secondly, the films are numbered for a reason. Don't get me wrong, if Lucas didn't want you to be able to watch the 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 he wouldn't have made them or released them in that order. I prefer the 1-6 order myself but I'm not going to argue with the order they were released.

Third, none of the movies themselves resort to flashback scenes so why should the entire saga be subjected to a 6-hour flashback? It's stylistically incompatible with the films itself. Then you have the extreme awkwardness in regards to pacing when you consider the fact that you are abandoning Luke, Leia, Han etc. in the middle of their story for that same 6-hour flashback.

Finally, this ridiculous viewing order didn't come from Lucas or even one of the various producers, screenwriters etc. that worked on the films with him. It was invented by some anonymous internet nerd. I have a big problem with things like fan edits, fan-fiction, re-sequencing albums etc. It's arrogant and insulting to the extreme. Even with his constant tinkering Lucas has given us two perfectly valid viewing orders that infinitely outweigh some guy you met in a chat room or on a message board.

But hey, if you want to watch them in some nonsensical order and then rush to the internet to act like Lucas couldn't even get the order of the movies right then be my guest.
