Yeah, that line just reeks of Eastern religions to me, and it doesn't work from a story point, either. Anakin's nightmares about Padme' are getting worse, he doesn't want to lose her, but he can't tell anyone about their marriage, either...so, he goes to the one who's supposedly the wisest Jedi to ever carry a lightsaber, and what's the advice given?

"Death is normal; mourning is prohibited. Don't even bother missing them, because attachment is terrible. You should never desire anything."

After mulling this stuff over, I just thought, "WHAT?!"

This is just like that "absolutes" line from Obi-Wan, which tears itself and the story apart at the same time. Anakin partially echoes Christ with the whole, "you're either with me or you're my enemy", and Kenobi accuses Anakin of being a Sith...not for his actions, but for holding any kind of absolute ideal (which all the other Jedi also do on their own). Its circular reasoning, and makes zero sense in the story.

Maybe because, just as happens in real life, "Jedi-ism" had evolved to become cluttered with ideas that cover all bases for all ends, buffet-style, such that any given jedi could pick and choose which homilies and proverbs suited his purpose of the moment.

The jedi are not supposed to be perfect, just good.

Which would, in turn, render the Jedi Code completely irrelevant, with every Knight making stuff up along the way.

Bingo. He still works as the man under the mask but his ghost doesn't

Yeah, exactly. The Jedi have fallen from their original harmony with the force, and become self-righteous dogmatists. The Jedi are flawed, that's how they are meant to be portrayed.

Not really; its mostly that Yoda's telling Anakin to let go of the only person he truly loves, even if she dies....and at the same time, Obi-Wan paints anyone who believes in absolutes as equivalents to the Sith! Anakin deserved to be called on the carpet by Kenobi, but for his actions, not some hypocritical law that Obi-Wan doesn't even keep.

I can appreciate those of you who are looking for, or perhaps have learned the Jedi code, or the deeper mysteries of the story line and various sub-plots of the Star Wars Saga. That is fine with me.... enjoy yourself.

For me, I believe Star Wars is a fun popcorn adventure that helps me escape for a few moments from the real world. Star Wars is perhaps the best group of films ever made. I love them all, and I am thrilled to have the films coming to Blu-Ray next year. Thank you George Lucas for giving us such unforgetable characters and such an entertaining story. Thank you John Williams for the music we all know by heart. Thank you ILM for the ground breaking special effects that changed how movies are made.

For those of you who do not like what is going to be released.. don't buy it. For me, I will be very happy to add such a great adventure to my collection.

The way I see it, is Anakin never looked like Shaw's ghost, so it doesn't make sense to begin with. With Hayden as the ghost, thats the last time we see Anakin before his transformation. So depicting Anakin as an old man in a way we've never seen or has never happened doesn't seem right to me.

So I don't mind the change for that scene. Always have to get ready to run as I say that

I'm just going to say this, when I was a little kid I was always confused who that old ghost guy was sitting next to ghost Yoda and ghost Obi-Wan. Replacing Shaw with Hayden is one of the few changes that I really like.

...and anyway, why can't the Jedi have a religious view that would be ecumenical by our standards? Why do they have to be exclusively "space Christians" or "space Buddhists" or "space Hindus", in order to be logically consistent? Star Wars is made up, why should it be bound by the historical and cultural templates of our civilization? Why can't the Jedi observe the same kind of "religious buffet" that its creator, George Lucas, has an affinity for? From what I know of Lucas and his influences, that is exactly his view, he admires various ideas from all the cultures and creeds of the world, but is bound to none. Star Wars is his work, it should reflect his views. Obviously, nobody is under any obligation to subscribe to it themselves, but it's a little arbitrary to dismiss it as worthless just because it doesn't match up with your own views.

I'm also a little confused by the complaint: as far as I know, both ideas, (avoid attachment, the more attached you are to something or someone, the more it will make you suffer; and the rejection of absolutes), are both consistent with Tao Buddhism, which is probably a major influence of Lucas's conception of Jedi philosophy.

I think the underlined bit is the key difference really.

The Jedi pretty much live (or try to) in peace and are respectful of others, and generally if you disagree with a Jedi, he is not likely to force choke you to death. Likewise if you make a mistake, a Jedi won't force choke you. The Sith deal in absolutes in the sense that if you disagree with them (for whatever reason), they'll likely kill you. The Jedi won't.

Also I think should Lucas change it back to Han shooting first, and further touch up the Jabba ANH CGI, I'm pretty much for the SE/04 ones (and still am even if he doesn't). I watched ESB yesterday and I like the changes to cloud city (windows and stuff) & the emperor scene.

I also much prefer Hayden in ROTJ as opposed to Sebastian Shaw (no disrespect Shaw). I also like the way Hayden appears, the way he's looking down at first gives a sense of humility, (not sure if intentional) but I like it.

That said, I'd like to see remastered/restored Unaltered trilogy, simply for historical/cultural purposes. I'd probably watch them once (just to remember when I used to watch those old VHS versions), but apart from that, I'd always watch the SE/04 ones.

I'm watching the entire saga right now lol. Well not entirely back to back. But for the OT I'm going to watch the unaltereds from the 2-disc sets.

I did tear up a bit at the ending of Revenge of the Sith.
