Very disappointing to say the least. I asked and the guy said they only order 15 copies! So, they thought there might not be 16 people to buy SW Saga today? How crazy is that.

So I drove 15 min to Target and they had plenty of copies. Whew! I wonder if my BB sold out last night as I think they also were open at 12:01.
I tried to tell people that pre-ordering might be the best option for getting the The Complete Saga. That Wal-Mart won't be the only store that sells out I assure.

However, I go to that Target this morning about 15 minutes after they open, and they have their SW cardboard display up at the front registers. It's filled with the lithographs, and the 2 separate trilogy sets. 0 complete sets. I had someone scan the bar code, and it said there are 39 in the store. So they call over to the Customer Service desk and ask where they might be. The CS replies that they have them back there and were told to pull them from the display.

The reason? They're back there putting the spider wraps on them. Ugh. Luckily they hadn't started doing that yet, so I got a mint copy. I told the lady back there that those devices ruin the box set if they're put on too tight, and she of course, gave me the blank "so what?" look. I HATE those devices. It's why I rarely buy a box set in store because Best Buy is about the only place left that doesn't consistently use them.

I would have ordered from Amazon, but I already had 2 Target gift cards to use, so I got it there. Just glad I got there before they destroyed the packaging...again.

GAH!!!!!!! I HATE those friggin things!
Why the hell do stores use those?! I understanding wanting to prevent theft, but I think they do more to drive away people who would actually want to legitimately buy the item when they basically damage the hell out of the packaging in the process.

I wonder if something similar was going on at my local Wal-Mart Super Center this morning. I wasn't there to actually buy the Saga set since mine will be arriving from Amazon later today, but I wanted to stop there to get some tylenol and to pick up that Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace Blu-Ray which is only available at Wal-Mart.

I went over to their media department, and they had that display that is shaped like an At-At Walker (as somebody previously posted a pic of earlier in the thread). It is a big rectangular display designed to hold movies on all 4 sides. The front (at least the part that was facing "front" when I got over to that area) was for the Lego Star Wars BD. They had a ton of copies of it there. The two sides of it (which are not as wide as the front and back) is where they had the separate Blu-Ray Trilogy sets, and they had a ton of copies there. And the back, where the Complete Saga should have been (there is a sign on that side indicating this), there was just various books and stuff. For example, they had that Visual Dictionary of the Lego Star Wars lego sets, some other Lego Star Wars sticker book or something, and things like that. I did not see a single complete Saga set anywhere on the display.

I don't know if they had any in the back or if they had sold out over night. I didn't bother asking anyone working there if they had any since there wasn't any employees immediately available in the media area, I wasn't going to buy the set there anyway, and I was in kind of a hurry since I stopped there on my way to work.

I just hope that if they still had any, that they weren't putting those aweful Spyder security devices on them!

Default ...it's nowhere...

At 1:30 am this morning, I made the trek to our local Wal-Mart to pick up the full set and low and behold - it wasn't there. I inquired and was told that the set isn't to be released for another two weeks. (This being told to me while we stood by a large placard stating it's release at Midnight - an hour an a half before I arrived!)

I pointed out the ads they had posted and grudgingly, the associate said she would take one more look. She came back carrying a box and presented me with a Star Wars Lego game along with her "manager" who again stressed tom me that the set wont be released for some time.

Realizing that this was a futile endeavor, I thanked her for looking and left. On my way out I encountered a six college kids who were coming to pick up the set - I told them that they would have no luck.

So, I and these kids who I never met, jumped in my van, drove to the neighboring town 1/2 hour away, and bought our copies.

For giggles, I stopped by the Wal-Mart on my way to work and they have taken down all the Star Wars ads and as of 7:45 this morning - still no Star Wars.

Endor looked awful with colours all over the place and a complete lack of detail in any medium shots.

ANH and TESB at least tried to hide its faults. Overall all three films suffer awful colour saturation, crushed blacks, static grain and A New Hope suffers the worst case of halo effect i have ever seen. Watch when R2 goes is own way from CP30 in the desert. Look at the force field arround those moutains. It puts the original Gladiator's blu ray to shame.

What i don't get is how 5 years into blu we are still dealing with these issues with the major big releases. The reason why this release will get away with a 7 year old master for a blu ray release is because this is the one film series were fans will except anything as long as its better than the dvd and will buy in buckets.
It will be a day long remembered. A day that a Star Wars boxed set was released on home video and i didn't buy it. I've bought every release of the OT on every format since CED. Honestly, the thought of that bummed me out exponentially, but after renting the discs, I totally agree with the above statement and I'm glad i didn't waste my money on this set. The OT blu-rays are really sub-par transfers. Watch the battle on Hoth. Some very noticeable halo's around the AT-AT's, and the frozen grain is super evident during the entire sequence. Watch the binary sun sequence in ANH. Loads of static grain (read: NOISE). I have to say, the color saturation doesn't bother me as much as it did with the dvd releases, but it's probably because i'm so used to it by now. So yeah, happy with the current versions i already own. Episode 3 looked incredible, that's obviously the star of the set. It just sucks that they couldn't have put that much attention into the OT. What a waste.

I promised myself I would not buy this. But I guess resistance is futile. This morning I woke with an overwhelming desire to buy them. So $84 later at Target, I now own the entire saga and some lithographs. Damn you George Lucas. You got a hold of me again. When Vader starts saying no in ROTJ I am just going to make really loud lightning noises to drown it out. Ugh. I feel dirty.

Yeah, I understand they want to prevent theft, but at least put them in the plastic cases that the other movies are in. I can tolerate those because they're not squeezing the sides of the set. This Target I went to has never, ever used any security devices of any kind. But they did with Star Wars.

Even when the Alien set came out, they didn't put anything around them. I just hope this is a one time thing and not permanent.

My Walmart sold out of the Saga last night at 12:01am!!!! They only order 15 copies (doh!). You'd think they could have sold hundreds today.

I had to drive 15 min from there to Target and they had plenty of copies out.

That makes more sense to me. Story wise, 1-6 - they highpoint of the series is 6 when Vader (Anakin) saves Luke and is redeemed - it's a feel good ending. Ending the 6 movies with Sith is sort of depressing (storywise).
