my take on TPM EP I

audio 4.5...excellent dialogue..excellent detail..but no demo material here ..a lot better out there

PQ 3...I would give it a 3.5 if any other movie, but there is no excuse for Lucas, the guru, the man who said no blus till he was sure blu was here to stay and then it would be done right..detail remarkable at times, but the DNR on the faces ,especially Liam Neeson is awful,I honestly cannot believe Lucas watched this transfer because it would make him cringe...sure the cgi and the cgi characters look great, but the main characters..the real live people ...is as bad as Predator only more disappointing as it is so unexpected here so it seems worse.. a washed out waxy face talking to a brilliant cgi character just doesn't make it it

my experience for TPM on video was first a 2 cd bootleg from ebay..followed by a vcd from e-bay and then a bootleg dvd from the ld on e-bay..all of course from the far east
then the legit dvd

this is a disappointing video transfer..I got what i expected B4..but did not expect this...I am using an OPPO BDP 83 to my PIONEER PRO ELITE 111FD plasma tv....in CALIBRATED STANDARD MODE..it was bad..SWITCHING TO OPTIMUM where the tv adjusts to room by a separate sensor,it was god awful..Pure video was bad..Movie mode saved the film and made it watchable after some tweaking

now to clarify,I am talking about the live character scenes, especially the close ups,the rest looks damn good

JMO ..there is a huge room for improvement on TPM

years ago i made a comment that some movies just don't look good on dvd,and later some will only look bad in HD..maybe it's coming back to haunt me NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Did they re edit the end of episode 2? Im talking specifically about right after yoda and dooku fight. Dooku uses the force to try to drop the big pillar on obi and anakin and yoda stops it in mid air and pushes it over and drops it on the floor. On the dvd, the next shot is the gunship flying over and stopping by the platform and letting padme and troopers off. Then it shows dookus ship flying off and away while padme and troopers are shooting at it. Then it shows the ship leaving the planet and flying off into space. The next shot is of anakin gasping and yoda looking concerned and using the force to get his cane and walking towards obi and anakin. Then it shows obi and anakin getting up and then a wide shot with padme running in.

The blu ray version shows yoda dropping the big pillar then cuts to anakin gasping on the floor and yoda looking concerned and getting his cane. Then it cuts to the ship taking off and padme shooting at it.

This new cut doesnt flow well at all with the music. At first I thought maybe some of it was completely cut but then all the shots are there but out of order.

Anyone else notice this? Do I have a bad copy? Sorry if this is confusing. Just watch the dvd and the blu ray and you will see what I mean.

Thank you,

Matt

I decided to start with TPM and I must say for the PQ I am not impressed. I would rate this below average or sub-par. Due to DNR characters take on a waxy appearance while mid range shots are often blurry. On top of that EE is easily noticeable is several scenes. I have read that this is the worst of the bunch and I hope it's true but so are this is a big disappointment for me.

Watched episode IV for the first time ever tonight, absolutely loved it and can't wait to see what happens in episode V, but it will have to wait 'til tomorrow so that I can play it loud

During the cantina scene in episode IV I just kept thinking of the game Mass Effect which I thought was awesome. Talking about Mass Effect they need to make a movie for it...

Some quick minor criticisms of the film:
1. When the storm stroopers tried to break into Leia's ship the rebels should have thrown grenades into the room, that would have made it harder for them to break in.

2. They should have done more to show how powerful Obi-Wan is.

3. I felt that the movie ended too soon, I wanted more. Maybe 150 minute runtime would've been perfect? They could use those extra 30 minutes to show more training scenes between Obi-Wan and Luke.

PQ was great, especially considering how old this movie is. SQ was incredible.

I haven't preordered anything in a long time. This time I got a little worried and caved in and preordered it at Best Buy. I go to Target today and there's TONS of them! Whatever, I bought it at Target and will just keep my $5 film cell.

I watched the spoofs which was neat, but I wish they had a menu and you could select what you wanted to watch as opposed to 96 minutes straight of the spoofs. If I want to watch one of them I have to fast forward through it to find the one I want.

I noticed this, there's definitely something different. I thought my player skipped or something (like it did when I first watched Avatar).

Episode 2 is the worst, it's like the source was 1080p or less. At least in Episode 1 the blacks are good. Episode 2 looks washed out.

Watching the Phantom Menace as I type this. The sound is AMAZING! This brings me back to some fond childhood memories. I was 12 when I went to go see The Phantom Menace with my father at midnight. I remember the long lines and the excitement in the air. I will never forget that. Very nostalgic.
