Honestly, adding Ian in and changing Fett's voice doesn't bother me much, but you have pointless changes like adding in extra stupid dinosaurs and ships in the Mos Eisley scene, turning the Sarlacc into the Little Shop Of Horrors plant monster, and Jedi Rocks. How do these additions add to the story, in any significant way? An apologist will say some brainwashed shit like "Lucaz wanted deez changez so it's okay, itz his storreh and he can do whut he wantz *LOL*", but anyone who can seperate fanboyism from their own personal opinion will realize they were added in for spectacle, nothing more and nothing less.
Here again, the Mos Eisley additions were fine with me. In fact, I wouldn't have minded if there were even more additions.

Now as far as Jedi Rocks...you may have a point with that one, but you gotta admit...the pink haired alien chick that flirted with Boba Fett was HOT!

If it's all spectacle but doesn't change the overall effect of the story, the characters, and the meaning of the Saga, why are the majority of the fans of this series still dogmatic about it?
because it only accentuates how utterly fine the movies were BEFORE all these unneccessary changes were made. Let's take this approach out of the SW universe and take a completely random movie like say...iono....Predator. McTiernan decides he doesn't like the way the Predator looks, so he gives him a pink cape and steeltoe boots. Also, the jungle doesn't look "alive" enough, so he digitally adds in ridiculous CGI tigers and snakes. Do these changes affect the story? No, not at all. At the same time, is there really a point to these changes, other than the fact that McTiernan is clearly a control freak and wanted to satisfy his own impulses? Of course not. At this point, it just becomes distracting because you KNOW these things aren't supposed to be there. What has been known...cannot be unknown.

It's insane that Greedo shooting first caused all of this. Yeah, I hate how it LOOKS, but I don't hate the idea of it. That's about the only change Lucas screwed the pooch on.

I look at the Battle of Yavin that ends Episode IV. I defy ANYONE to sit there and make the case that it doesn't look better than its 1977 rendition. And those effects are from 1997 from the first Special Edition. Everyone says Lucas tinkers too much and yet, the Battle of Yavin hasn't changed since '97...because it's that damn great in the Special Edition....
now small cosmetic changes don't bother me. I agree with you here. The Battle of Yavin, Cloud City, the Rancor, getting rid of the matte lines surrounding the Tie Fighters, updating the lightsaber colors....that makes much more sense than adding in pointless Boba Fett scenes where he's trying to be the Fonz in Jabba's palace or Joh Yowza.

If I'm corrected, Boba Fett in the added Jabba scene in Episode IV, was shot on set in 1976. But again, I think I might be wrong on that.

It's a harmless addition if Lucas did add Boba in '97.

Good points, the DVD's look quite nice!

No need to worry for those who are angered about not getting the OT, you get nothing now.

Lucas had no desire to return to Star Wars in the immediate future and has unofficially canceled the blu-ray release.

Phatrat - I'm just a little older than you, but like you and your sister, I also have an older brother, I remember me and my brother watching on VHS as well when we were kids, we were huge SW fans! The opposite in my story is that my brother never saw the PT when they came out. He was having a lot of personal problems and hit hard times during the last decade or so. He didn't even see the OT when they were re-released on the big screen, I went to see them w/ my Dad and we had a blast!

Finally, just a year ago, my brother was watching TV and caught one of the Prequels and he called me and we talked about it, he went out and rented all three and watched them. It was good for him to take some time out and enjoy watching, he thoroughly did enjoy them! We were like kids again talking about it. Like me, he loves them all, probably the OT just a little more.

And I completely agree w/ your entire post, couldn't have said it better, I'm not too bothered by the changes, I mean ideally it would be nice if we can get all versions on Blu (like Blade Runner), but I'm just a fan of the entire Star Wars universe and will probably have a little party when they are released on Blu! Before Phantom Menace was released on the big screen in 1999, my friends and I had a SW marathon, spent the day watching the OT back-to-back and headed out to the theater to see Episode 1. Just enjoy and have fun everyone!
I was away for one day and was just blown away by the battle being fought here.

Your story is great. Sad about your brother though. Hope he is doing better now!

I remember watching the Trailer of Ep.I like 10 times every day, and when TPM finally hit theaters, I saw it 5 times on release day! That was a special time!

I also love all the entire SW saga, because they tell one large story.

It's sad that some people have nothing better to do than to rant, and destroy our excitement, but we won't let them.

May the force be with you.

Something else that I would like to see with this set besides the U-OT, would also be a separate film score track, and also another one with a 'John Williams' commentary to go along with it too.

IIRC, the original Jabba scene shot back in '76 had a short pudgy guy as Jabba and there was no Boba Fett. Bobba was added at the same time the human was removed and replaced by the CG Jabba specifically for the SE.

GET A LIFE!

In case you haven't noticed yet, which obviously you haven't:

SW was meant to play in a vast universe full of alien creatures and landscapes!

THAT was Lucas' point! He expanded his poor vision to a richer one.
I am not going to waste anymore breath, because it's painfully apparent that you take as much a hint as Obi Wan in the Asteroid battle with Jango.

you are the most insufferable poster on any forum I post on. Seriously. For someone who seems to be somewhat intelligent, you really turn into a drooling retard when it comes to Star Wars. If Lucas threw a bone at you and told you to fetch it, I'm 100% sure you'd do it.

This is how I see it.

If you created a whole universe and wasn't happy with certain aspects of it, wouldn't you go back and correct them?

Now would you rather have your corrected universe as the definitive version of the universe, or would you rather forget about your perfect universe and go back to the original faulted universe?

I can't believe some people are doubting that these will be reference. For starters the latest masters are 4k scans.

Maybe the Theatrical Editions wont be references, but the Special editions sure will.

I also don't mind any of the change in the special edition, I especially like Ian McDermit (Thats definitely wrong lol) in TESB. The only things that are actually bad in the SE's are "Han Shot First" and the Musical Number in ROTJ.

I am also certain that The CGI will be updated in all six movies. I always got the impression Lucas was the kind of guy that always wants the best tech.

....orrr, you could be fair to the people who appreciated your "faulted" universe and offer both versions to appease all demographics. Pretty novel concept, right?

I have DVD copies (copies, as in on 4.7GB DVD-R's) of the 2004 versions (which obviously were recompressed to fit) and they STILL look great on my HDTV upconverted.

I have no doubt these discs will look good, it's the content that will be interesting to see what makes it and what does not.
