Not sure if this has been brought up or not but the ugly-looking Yoda puppet can be seen at the end of Return of the Jedi in ghost form with Obi-Wan and Anakin (Hayden version). Curious to know why they didn't edit this out of the film like they did in TPM.

It seems to play, though. What I will probably do is put a piece of tape over where it's chipping and hope it'll work OK. Returning this to amazon sounds like a big headache.

I suggest everybody check their discs, I am not the first person to have this problem.
You'll likely need reflective tape.

The underside of the label is reflective. The laser reads the data by shooting the laser at the disc and then interpreting the data by the light that's reflected back at it.

If these paint chips are causing skips, then a piece of black tape or whatnot won't make much difference as it still won't be reflecting the laser.

Cause the puppet in the OT holds up fine. The PT puppet suffered from numerous issues.

I'm glad they didn't... that would look horribly out of place. Yoda's a puppet for the entire film and then they throw one shot of CGI Yoda in at the end? No thank you!

Is anyone's Episode II disc slightly different?

Either it's a glitch of the disc or Lucas has re-arranged two spots. First is the power couplings section when Obi-Wan and Anakin get shocked. And the other is the section where Yoda saves Obi-Wan and Anakin from the pillar crushing them as well as Dooku's escapes.

I don't know if it's a glitch or a re-edit by Lucas but the commentary doesn't jump in those moments at all...so I think it's a re-edit and it's kind of sloppy because he didn't re-edit the music well....

The Episode II archival commentary is very much a director's/actor's commentary more than a technical one...which was really good.

I know that some shots of Dooku's escape were resequenced. Something like putting Anakin and Obi-Wan's reaction to Dooku escaping before he actually escapes, or something like that. It's on Wikipedia.

Nycom,

Thanks for that. The re-edit is sloppy but I'm glad it's not a glitch.

And with the new version we get to see the actor in the prequels. So It makes sense if not more so to have hayden christensen at the end of jedi

Maybe I'm imaging it but I heard it last night. Do you have a link to the wiki page?

Default So Fun Watching These With Your Children!

Watched ANH with my 6-year-old last night, and it was a blast! He knows these movies some -- from the DVDs, and the Lego SW games -- so there are lots of comments from him like, "In my game, it was different!" LOL

However, talking with him about the things that thrilled me when I was his age seeing these movies is interesting!

I have been reading the opening crawls out loud for him, and whenever a main character of the Death Star is mentioned, he blurts out, "AWESOME! That's awesome!"

Ha ha!

One thing he actually noticed that I literally never did today was in Empire Strikes Back, with the Special Edition Wampa, and what he is actually eating. My six-year-old -- with slight terror, and disgust on his face -- said, "Is he (the Wampa) "eating" Luke's Tauntaun?!?!" And then he gasped!

I was like "Whoa! I think he IS!"

Damn! Never thought I would actually notice something new in these films -- especially after having followed all the changes since the original releases in the theaters!

Games read from all over the disc... what if you just haven't made it to X location after talking to X person while carrying X weapon, etc. Plus games pre-load so much info that a skip on the disc probably wouldn't be noticeable.

Movies, for the most part, read steadily from outside inwards, so you're more likely to notice the skips.

I have had several CDs and DVDs with this problem and all of them had jarring skips (sometimes the CDs just stopped reading).

Anyways, that's besides the point. I paid $90 for this set, I expect it to be perfect (or as close as possible). Maybe if I bought a set of bootlegs, chipping labels wouldn't bug me, but after shelling out almost $100, it's not something I want to see!

BTW how has it gone for those trying to return their sets now? I won't be able to until monday. Honestly, I can't imagine a store putting up a fight when the label of the disc is literally chipping off but ya never know.

For anyone wanting to purchase just the original trilogy alone I highly suggest you save your $40. The dvd's hold up remarkably well and I remember when they first came out just how stunning they were. Lucas redid many of the effects as well at the time and the 2004 dvd set was a stellar release. Releasing the same masters in 2011 on bluray not so much. The 2K CGI looked far worse than the optical with model work and I guess we will have to wait till 2015 till the 3-D release and hopefully these films will get 4K scans with the effects redone in 4K. The dvd to bluray comparison is spot on at caps-a-holic. It reminds me of comparing dvd's to bluray when the format first came out, but who would have thought Lucas would be using 7 year old masters for bluray? On the positive side the preqeul trilogy seems to be a worth while upgrade.
You must have a really small TV and a non existent audio system. The blurays are an upgrade from the DVD video and everyone knows that blurays offer much more than 5.1 DD for audio. What about you... did you know that? Thanks for your suggestions to stick with the inferior dvds though.

People have been posting a lot of false information on Wikipedia and other places in regard to changes, it's just childish acting out because Lucas didn't include the original theatrical versions of the films. Best to ignore what people post for the most part and check out the films for yourself.

lmfao ... wow, sticking with DVD's?? After watching TPM last night on my 50" Plasma with 5.1 surround sound I was about ready to BURN my DVD's lol

and TPM was suppose to have one of the lowest marks PQ wise and I was still blown away and the audio, OMFG was amazing!!!!

That guy needs to update his home entertainment system or else buy some glasses and a hearing aid.
