uhh no the discs are fine.
it's the interaction between the discs and certain players.
it's always related at either bd-j or bd+.
it's always been like this with bd.
read what the person posted a few posts above yours.
there's your answer.
If 70% of the people out there can play the discs with no issues, then that tells you right there it is NOT the discs per se.
what don't you understand?
once the maker of your player issues a firmware update addressing the specific problem the set in your hands will play fine.
simple as that.
my point is that there is nothing PHYSICALLY wrong with the discs.
exchanging them 100 times won't help.

That's scary, I have a 93 but didn't see any issues with "the phantom menace". Are you running bitstream and BD Live on?

I would never disagree with that.
but too many times people are trying 6 different versions when there is absolutely no reason to.
I still can't believe some of the posts I've read over the years involving endless exchanges.
If 95% of other people aren't having problems, then that kind of tells you right there it's not the discs that are the problem.
I do agree with you. The pinhole specks on my discs are one thing...

The people who are exchanging it because it's nto loading 'properly' and whatnot probably either dont' have their firmware up to date, or haven't tried clearing their persistent storage.

FACT: The bluray versions offer higher quality audio and video over the DVD versions.

I agree in terms of quality. Anyone who really wants to suggest these are in any way inferior to the DVD's in the A/V department are merely trolling.

However, it doesnt' always come down to A/V for people. Some people genuinely want their DVD's over the Blu-ray discs. Why?

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

I'm not one of those people, but I certainly understand where those people are coming from.

My Blu-ray, paint chip. It started smaller. I took my finger to rub the spot, like I was wiping away a finger print and the paint just rubbed off like you see. That was with barely touching it with the tip of my finger. Yes, the disc still plays fine, but I don't care. I don't have any Blu-ray disc that the paint has came off like this. There is no excuse. And with so many people saying they have these holes, I'm a little pissed off!

perfect example of the bd at its most frustrating.
I do feel truly bad for people whose discs are not playing properly.
It's a shame that Fox decided they just had to do something different securitywise with this release.
guess I can't say I'm surprised.
they were always the most paranoid studio and the one the most concerned with mandating bd+.
it's going to take manufacturing firmware updates to get those problematic sets playing properly.
a real shame.

There are no upgrades to "look" for on PS3. If you have it conected to the net it would prompt you to update the Firmware before going online anyway.

If you're not online with it then the latest firmware is 3.70 and can be found at the bottom of this page for download to a USB stick. http://us.playstation.com/

The other thing like others have mentioned, have you tried using the different audio output options? Bitstream to LPCM?

That is a pain. When Beauty and the Beast came out, it took an eternity to load and the bonus disc took even longer on my pc with HP DVD Play BD. The making of even slowly went out of phase as time went on.

Now? It loads up quick and works perfectly as it's been updated since the last time I played it. I wish we didn't have to deal with that potential problem so often.

So has anyone watched Attack of the Clones yet? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Shmi screaming (or at least so loudly) in Anakin's dream. I'm not sure if it's an actual change, or just this new mix really brings it out, but it works really well! Lets us into Anakin's head for just a moment. I love it. I thought I knew about all the changes before seeing them here, but that one surprised me. Can anyone confirm that it has been changed?

At least if there's an issue on the PS3, you know it's only going to be a (short) matter of time before a new firmware comes out. Other people really may not have that luxery depending on the player. My Oppo BDP-83 is in good hands, though

I'm not sure what it was, but I thought I remember hearing that WAS changed. Good catch for not hearing about it before!

Just finished marathoning all six films, back to back. Went in the original order from IV-VI, and then I-III. I really don't see how ANYONE could be bothered enough with the new changes to the point of not buying the set. I mean, damn, in the whole grand scheme of things, those are like specs. This is one of those times where a set is truly amazing, and something I will continue to pop in every chance I get. I just started checking out the extras, but I'm shocked at how many extras there actually are! I need a break, but I will definitely get through everything. I haven't done something like this since the Alien Anthology release, or more recently (and not as hard), BttF.

One thing I must say...and I know I'm in the minority here, but I really wish GL would've made the puppet in the OT CGI. I know a lot of people, and even GL himself if I'm not mistaken, say that the puppet fits right with Yoda's age, but it's the one thing that kind of stood out.

Everything is wrong with that voice. His high-pitched screaming all the time causes me physical pain. He's only tolerable in the few scenes when he talks somewhat normally... or when you have permanently lost all the higher frequencies of your hearing for some reason.
I remember an interview with Natalie Portman back sometime when one of the prequels was shooting or was in theaters, she was asked about Lucas' directing style. She indicated he took 6 takes of every scene and picked which he thought was the best of each, and he didn't really instruct the actors beyond that. Yes, Portman has talent, but if you don't have a feel for what a director wants, that would make it difficult for the actors to collectively capture the mood in the same scene. Sure, the writing/script might explain what the scene requires (mood, feeling, behavior, etc.), but not everyone interprets what is written in the same exact way - web forums ALONE are an example of that . If this directing style really is true, that to me pretty much explains the wooden acting in the prequels.
