My Sony BDP S350 is having major issues with clipping and distortion.

My PS3 40g has a lot of sound distortion as well. It's watchable but very distracting.

Default The Force Was With Me At Movie Stop

I went into Movie Stop with a pile of movies to sell so I could get the Star Wars set. They figured out my trade and told me I had $79.96 in trade. They are always trying to get me to buy their store card but I never want to pay for it. Their sale price was $84.99 plus tax. I told them if they can give me the store card and the set and I don't have to pay more than $5 out of pocket I'll take the card. The overzealous manager said she'd do it. When they were done I paid $3 total and got the set and the store card. That's less than I would have paid if I had just used my credit and paid the difference. Yeah I guess they got a store card out of me but in the end I think their eagerness to get that card sale benefited me more than them. The manager actually went in and added $10 more credit to my order to make this work. Wow never underestimate the corporate pressure to sell add-ons nowadays. They technically lost money to get that add-on. Strange and shady policies but hell it worked out for me so I don't care.

Watched the whole saga this weekend. Haven't done that in years, but I thought I'd make an exception for these. I'm completely satisfied w/ the transfer. However, I still can't help thinking episodes 1 & 2 sucked. The acting at times was was awful/cheesy.

Anyone else notice that Greedo still shoots first, BUT Han kills him faster?!?!

I swear that scene is quicker than it was before. Anyone else notice that, or am I crazy?!?!

It's been noted a few times since the Rips appeared online. It's been touched up a bit and a couple frames taken out so it's closer to both shooting first rather than straight up Greedo shooting first.

I have seen multiple posts here that Han shoots at the same time and the scene looks a lot better for it, so no, you're not crazy (at least not on this issue )

Not really an inconsistency. I've always been amazed at the amount of familiar names in the "Star Wars" saga that are unrepresented or under-represented in the films themselves. Some things you may have never noticed:

The elder Skywalker was mentioned in the original film but the name "Anakin" wasn't uttered in a film until "Return of the Jedi". It now also appears in the updated Emperor scene in "Empire" but wasn't used in the original.

The name "Palpatine" appears nowhere in the original trilogy. It was used in things like novelizations (including the prologue of the first novelization which was the first SW product ever) but never on-screen until the PT. People complained that he suddenly had the Darth Sideous name in the PT but nobody seems to care that they never cared enough to use any name for him.

The name "Boba Fett" is uttered on-screen for the first and only time by Han Solo in "Jedi". Well, he says it 2 or 3 times in quick succession. It almost makes you wonder if Lucas expected his audience to be following along with the action figure line to identify his characters.

So yeah, if Lucas could be commended for identifying characters properly in the movies anyway I could see getting upset over the fact that names like Padme, Qui-Gon etc. aren't uttered in the PT but as it stands it's remarkably consistent. We now know Luke and Leia's mother is Padme even if they don't use her name just like we know Obi-Wan is talking about Anakin even though he doesn't use his name.

Padme and Qui-Gon's names are mentioned in TPM. Padme says her name and Annie and Obi-Wan refer to Qui-Gon as Master Qui-Gon. Boba Fett's name was mentioned in a cut scene between Luke and Leia, as well as the Star Wars Holiday Special.

"I'm Padme. You're a Gungan, aren't you?"

Because when they fire their guns it at least looks like they're shooting at something. When Portman fires hers in the big arena fight one) it looks like the gun has no weight and two) it looks like she's firing in different directions from where she's looking.

If I can see that within seconds as a viewer surely Lucas would have noticed as a director and instructed her better.

Not exactly. That's the unrestored original theatrical dvd vs blu-ray. Not a proper comparison. The blu does look really sweet though (and sweet on youtube so actual blu ) except the docking part looks better in the original (as in it looks more realistic).

I've only watched EP IV so far, but I was happy to notice this improvement. (Maybe it's more of a compromise )

I went back and watched this in step frame, and those added SE elements are there, but a lot shorter. You certainly don't notice that awful fake "dodge" by Han.

I wasn't referring to prequels. I was replying to a complaint that the name "Padme" is never mentioned in the OT. Names like Padme, Qui-Gon etc. are obviously used in the PT as are Palpatine, Boba Fett etc.

Naming is wonky across all the movies. As I mentioned earlier: Yoda is mentioned in TPM and appears on-screen but the name is never associated with the character. For being intended as the first viewing Lucas expects you to know that the little green guy IS Yoda somehow.

the tests didn't look good at all so the idea was shelved.
Lucas was ready to go that route though.
And that's what I hate about Lucas. The work Frank Oz did was amazing. This is essentially spitting in his face. Same thing would be if Ridley Scott went and CGI'd the creature in Alien - screw you genius Stan Winston. Of course Ridley Scott wouldn't do that to begin with.

So far my only audio disappointment is that the "Stand by. Stand by" comment is REALLY HARD TO HEAR NOW at the end of the Death Star battle in ANH.

Sorta sad too, because Matthew Wood did such and AWESOME job with the sound mixes for these films on Blu. I can afford him one mistake
My son wanted to watch ANH again, and I suppose the low volume of the "Stand by. Stand by" audio isn't SO strange. I do miss hearing it clearly though

One mistake Matthew Wood! Just one!

EDIT: Ahh, so that audio was added to ESB in one of the SEs.

He's only referred to as "The son of Skywalker" in the theatrical ESB. I mentioned this above: the name "Anakin" wasn't used in that scene before it was re-filmed with Ian McDiarmid in '04. As I said before: Luke's father is mentioned in the original film, it took 6 years for the name "Anakin" to be attributed to him on-screen.
