Great buy. Congratulations! If you haven't seen the unaltered OT on laserdisc then you're in for a treat. I still think it sounds great on my Yamaha system. For sure, the new BDs blow this and any other release out of the water, but the LD sound is quite respectable.

I won't ask incase you don't want to tell, but imagine that cost a pretty penny! Would love to have it in my collection.

I think I paid 157.50 plus about 15.00 for shipping. It is a beast to ship for sure. I would put the link from the sell but I think that is forbidden on this site.

So, for the folks who own the UK version: are the ratings logos printed on the box like the Aliens set, or are they stickers? The box shown in that unboxing video doesn't have any logos, but it is in English, unlike the Italian, Spanish or French releases... just wondering if it's the Austrian / German version.

The Canadian version has the "The Complete Saga" translation on a peel-off sticker

They are on the box. I still don't understand why they don't put them on the data sheet they have on the box, like they do with Steelbook releases.

Maybe I should sell my complete set Laser Disc set. $150 is not a bad price.

Seems to be all about timing I know there are other sets out there for sale and I guess depends.. I just knew I wanted the sealed set badly... though I will open it this evening.

Funny the box set is 18 Years old! Released in 1993

I think I paid $200 for it on release day, so tht's a really solid price IMO.

Lol! I remember VHS costing upwards of £20 here back in those days! LD on there own used to cost £50+ easily, and where I live the only way you could get them was via mail order!

I was thinking about the possibility of getting the UOT on Blu the other day and - I'm sure everybody else already realized this - Lucas wouldn't be able to use the Laserdisc transfers. I guess he'd have to rescan the original negatives?

That thought made me wonder if a rescan of the UOT could result in a better-looking, more detailed transfer than we got here. I don't mean that aurally, I mean that in a visual sense it could surpass what we have currently - especially considering how far digital scanning has come since 2004.

Just some food for thought. I'd pick up the UOT in an instant and probably never watch the SE's again, but the SE's are still SW so I won't complain. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining - I legitimately just am wondering if some experts can weigh in on their opinion here

That's right! If you have to critizise writing, acting, storytelling or style you have to do it for both trilogies. Lucas did a marvelous job in envocing that same old Star Wars magic in the prequels like he did 20 years before. Either you like it or you don't! I love the 6 movies!

There was some talk about the original negetive was cut up to create the SE cuts so there is no negetive of the UOT in good enough condition to make new prints from.

They would have to go back and try to cut out the SE stuff etc and it would be a nightmare. Not imposible but nowhere near as straight forward as people think. But I'm no expert so someone else could chime in on the subject?

A nice 4K -8K scan would be awesome and definitely show improvement. The last scan was a mere (mere now) 2k scan for the dvd releases. It would be very expensive however so given this recent release, the cost involved and Lucas's unwillingness to allow the originals to be seen again, I don't see it ever happening.
