definitely a noticeable gap.

overall though I am very happy with this purchase. unfortunately though it has made me realize that I need to add the .1 after my 5.0 audio configuration. put it off for too long.
If people watched the credits (an unfortunate rarity these days) they would see the THX trailers at the end of every film. The OT has the infamous Deep Note and the PT has the newest ones - the garden-like one that was also included in the Avatar CE.

I finally finished watching the OT, and I actually like Vader's new dialogue in ROTJ. I don't mind any of the changes, except I still hate Hayden's face being added in ROTJ. It literally makes me cringe, and I'm obviously not a die-hard fan, like some.

Has anyone noticed any Easter eggs on the set yet? I'm beginning to think that Lucas & Co. are sending us on a wild goose (egg) hunt!

Funny the box set is 18 Years old! Released in 1993
Glad you got your hands on that set! It's quite a treat. I wonder if you got the 1st pressing or the "better" later pressing which restores about 7-10 seconds of dialog in Empire and fixes the audio commentary listings on the included booklet. I have two of these 1993 sets, both of them are the 1st pressing with "issues" but I love them and they play fine!

I also have the 'Faces' CLV set, Special Edition LD set and the Japan "Collectors" edition which I received on the same day I got the Blu-Ray. The artwork for the set is beautiful and it even came with 'From Star Wars to Jedi' on LD! Too bad the subtitles are burned it, but it's still fun to watch.

Yes the Blu-Ray will blow the LD away in picture quality, but the LD (and 2006 DVD version as well) are still good ways to watch the original unaltered trilogy.

The reason why the UOT has not been released is because such a venture would NOT be profitable. If you put the UOT alongside the special editions, the overwhelming majority of the movie-going public will opt for the special editions with the latest FX. Film buffs and hardcore fans will opt for the UOT, but they will be in the minority. Don't ever assume that film buffs and hardcore star wars fans are representative of the movie going public at large.

If the UOT and SE were available separately, most people will only buy one or the other. Not both. That's two products cannibalizing each other in the market. And the cold hard truth is this: Most people who prefer the UOT, will settle for the SE if the UOT was not available. The crazy few who would actually prefer nothing rather than the SE are a commercially insignificant minority. It is only their business that Lucas is losing from the lack of UOT. The potential profits Lucas can make from their purchase would not justify the cost of properly restoring and publishing the UOT.

But the REAL cost of releasing a definitive UOT is this: Once film buffs and hardcore fans get their hands on a pristine copy of the UOT... most of them will never buy any incarnation of Star Wars ever again. They will never buy the special editions or final cuts or whatever versions Lucas might have on the horizon. For that reason, it makes more sense for Lucas to delay the announcement of a UOT until after he has made his final, final, special editions.

It's not that GL is a crazy person who doesn't recognize the historical value of the UOT. He's a smart businessman, and he knows well enough to stagger his product releases so they don't cannibalize each other. Angry internet nerds are just too angry to see GL's ratonale, and would prefer to attribute his decisions to stupidity.... when in fact, it's the angry internet nerds who are too daft to see the big picture.

I am experiencing dropouts. Do you have a Denon receiver? I do and most of those with this issue are Denon owners. I have not tried it yet but saw that if you let your player do the decoding and send the audio to the receiver, there is no issue. Something to do with how Denon decodes the bitstream.

Do you have any facts to back up your claim? If not it is just your opinion.

There seems to be some audio clipping during The Empire Strikes Back.

This has always bothered me about the prequels, the Jedi's especially Mace Windu and Obi-Wan are always shouting and screaming. Obi-Wan doesn't suppress any of his emotions. He laughs, he cries, he shouts, he screams, he was hardly a decent example for Anakin....

If the prequels had been made a few years later Lucas could have Twilight'ed the shit out of them and gone all Emo on us. Look how well popular music goes with prequel clips on YouTube.

We could have had Anakin rolling around on the floor screaming to a MUSE track because Padme had left the room for five minutes....

I have the same "Issue", also on a PS3. Doesn't really bother me that much.
I mean, a few minutes before that you could the most important tracks of the film in lossless .

This is where we must agree to disagree, because obviously opinions aren't "wrong" but no amount of justification in the world could convince me those 2 exchanges are even remotely similar in quality.
Pretty funny that he specifically mentions that dialogue as I found it the most horrible dialogue I had ever heard (and yes, I like the prequels).
The fireplace scene in AotC also feels a bit unnatural (have you ever heard a 19 year old say such things? I am pretty sure I didn't when I was that age 1 year ago ). I find the lack of proper timing in some scenes more irritating. Anakin is supposed to be out of words when he first sees Padme after 10 years in AotC but fires his lines in rapid succession (and Obi Wan is staring a bit around, instead of wondering if Anakin has a bit more feelings for her than simply friendship ).

Oh well, hopefully I have time this week to watch the OT. Really excited to watch A New Hope and the Empire Strikes back in 1080p and lossless sounds, this will be a week long remembered ()

Yes.
Denon AVR-789
Sony BDP-S1000 ES

I read on another forum that it's not just a Denon issue. There's much debate over whether it's a receiver issue, a player issue, or a copyright authoring issue. I've never had issues with the Sony player before, so I assume it's the discs themselves

I don't agree. Star Wars is likely the most influential film series in history. I have little doubt that restoration companies would line up to shell out the money to do an UOT restoration for a cut of the Blu-ray and HD distribution profits. However, given Lucasfilm is all about anal control, that'll probably never happen.

If cost is all George Lucas is concerned about, he doesn't need to spend a single dime.

Windu's demeanor has always bugged me as well. He always seemed frustrated and angry to me, especially in the Jedi Council scenes in TPM.

Because that's the only type of character Samuel L. Jackson can play well. Look at this filmography and you'll see what I mean. His most memorable characters are frustrated and angry ones.

There are two THX trailers! The Flowers one on the PT discs and the Blue box THX logo on the OT discs. They are after the credits!

For me I still remember the THX trailer for ep IV at the theater, the rush it gave me, and the smile on my face I didn't know was there. I think every dollar I have spent on my own set up is to get that rush again, I'm hooked.
I have been reading a lot of posts here leading up to the release, excited to see if the hook to my hobby would live up to my hopes, some posts helped, some didn't.
The complete saga was a fist day buy fo me, I think it always would have been, no matter what I read. Overall I would have to say I am satisfied, the movies have neve looked or sounded better (at home), there are some small issues for me but nothing that ruined the experiance of the movies for me.
The lack of a THX trailer is suprising and disappointing for me, it has always been a part of the whole experiance, and it felt like something was missing from the movies.
Sunday we had a family BBQ, and the kids went to the HT room to watch a movie, which is nomal when we gather at our home. They all wanted to watch the OT. They made it through the fist two movies without us knowing they where here, and when it was time to go, they all wanted to stay to watch the third movie, all with that big stupid grin on their faces I had when I first saw episode IV.
Could it have been better, sure, have things changed, yes, but it didn't change anything for me, should there have been a THX trailer, how could there not have been.
But I know when blu ray goes the way of VHS, DVD, I'll be spending my money on the next upgrade, and waiting for the first day buy of Star Wars again.
There is a THX trailer at the end of each movie I think. Although they are not new they are there just in a different place.

I actually factor out ending credit time. When I see a film is 100 minutes long then I automatically deduct 5-8 minutes. 99.9% of the time there's nothing of interest in the ending credits that can't be found on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes.
