Yes but in this situation people are feeling dissapointed at the loss of THX trailers when they are in fact there.

So far I'm still watching DISC 4 (star wars). I've noticed probably 3-5 dropouts in addition to the crackling at the beginning of the credits.

Funny, but the only problem is I don't think this is one where he played it well. I always felt he seemed uncomfortable in the role, and this coming from someone who LOVED him Pulp Fiction. Jackson made that movie for me.

I think the point I as tying to make has kind of gotten lost. It's the feeling of sitting back, your favoite beverage, pop corn, the THX trailer hinting at the sonic treat you are in for. Wasn;t that the point of the THX trailer in the first place?

Yes the THX trailer is there, and the end seems to be the wrong place. It was all part of the hype leading up to experiance.

The THX trailer at the end, isn't going to get any one fired up to watch what they have already seen.

The THX trailer lead you into it, and you can't lead from the back

I've watched episodes IV, V, and VI and have not have any audio problems. I have an Onkyo 5400 7.1 system and a Samsung C5500 BD player.

I agree with your assessment. And what's with the double 20th Century Fox logo?

definitely a noticeable gap.

overall though I am very happy with this purchase. unfortunately though it has made me realize that I need to add the .1 after my 5.0 audio configuration. put it off for too long.
Just purchased an entry level sub (got a 7 month old and EVERYthing is now a luxury) over the weekend specifically for this release! Been 5.0 for 2 years myself and figured it was time. Got it set up yesterday and am going to start with Episode I tonite!

Yeah, I agree too. I was thinking more onthe lines of yes it is included not where the best place for it to bewas, at the start is definately the best place.

I dont get why they used the two logos either, I don't like the new logo, but to have the old one too is strange. Considering lucas has never worried about keeping original content intact

However, given Lucasfilm is all about anal control, that'll probably never happen.

If cost is all George Lucas is concerned about, he doesn't need to spend a single dime.

I'm guessing you didn't even bother reading my post before replying.

As I said, the real "cost" of producing a definitive home release of the UOT is not in the actual restoration of the films. It's in the loss of future sales from people who will buy the UOT, and never buy any future incarnation of Star Wars ever again. Even though there is strong demand for the UOT, most film buffs and hardcore fans will settle for the SE if the UOT is unavailable. But the reverse isn't true. Once film buffs and hardcore fans get their hands on a definitive copy of the UOT, most of them won't bother with any other version ever again.

That is why I am convinced that the UOT can only come after George Lucas has issued his Final Cut of the entire saga. It will not come before then.

Watched episode VI last night and it was great but I feel it's not as good as IV and V. I'd give IV 9.9/10, V 10/10, and VI 9/10 moviewise. PQ I'd say VI is clearly not as good as IV and V. Some of the Endor scenes looked soft to me. Also i'd say the audio in VI isn't as impressive as IV and V.

If you don't want to be spoiled don't read further:
*****SPOILER WARNING*****
*****SPOILER WARNING*****

1) Han Solo was awesome in IV and V but he was practically non-existent in VI. I think this might be due to the script rather than Harrison Ford's performance.

2) Yoda barely does anything in this one, he basically just dies

3) Loved the Luke vs Vader duel!

4) Loved the chase scene through the forest!!!!!

5) Liked the Ewoks.

6) The rebel assault on the new death star didn't look as good as the first assault from IV.

7) The Emperor's powers seem interesting, it appeared that he was able to project electric bolts from his hands in a similar fashion to Rayden from Mortal Kombat and Thor. Are Jedi's capable of the same?

8) With the Emperor being far more powerful than Vader I'm surprised they focused so little on the Emperor in IV, V, and VI. Vader is awesome but I want to know more about the Emperor.

*****End OF SPOILER WARNING*****
*****End OF SPOILER WARNING*****

Will be watching The Phantom Menace for the first time in a few hours

Congrats. I have 3 kids- 7yo, 2yo, and 3mo, and you're right, everything is a luxury. Enjoy your flicks and your sub!

I have watched ANH and 1/2 of ESB with my kids and noticed no audio dropouts at all. I am letting the player do the decoding as the Onkyo 805 suffers from the notorious DTS bomb and I haven't messed with updating the firmware (since you have to do it via optical, of all things).

I am betting if those of you that are experiencing the problem allow the player to do the decoding you won't experience the problem. I'd be interested in hearing if that fixes the issue or not.

Seems to be in perfect condition ! What a great buy, congrats !

I know there are a lot of extras on this LD set. Anybody knows if all these have been released on DVD (and maybe some on the current BD)?

The concept of spoilers in a discussion of the Star Wars movies tickles me, as if there are people stumbling in here learning that
[Show spoiler]Vader is Luke's father
or that
[Show spoiler]the rebels win
. In my opinion, it's their own fault not seeing the films to begin with and discussion of the films content should be out in the open.

It looks like it's just the trailer for 20th Century Fox "Home Entertainment" which I guess would be a separate entity from Fox film. If you watch the trailer, it reveals the right side which specifies "Home Entertainment", so I guess it amounts to additional branding.

Ditto. Part of the problem is that the score is forced down very, very low in the mix (thanks Ben Burtt! Argh!) and it sounds cramped and compressed. No high end at all.

It's a lot better than the DVD. But it's still significantly less exciting than the AQ of I and II. Or IV, V and VI for that matter!

Really? You can't think of any reasons a young, hungry artist might be more focused and creative than his older, richer, more powerful self? Is that really that hard to imagine or understand?

American Graffiti and Star Wars were both well-written and well-directed. No two ways about that. But they're also thirty-five to forty years old. Artists get old. They get comfortable. They get in ruts. Sometimes they lose sight of what they're good at and what they're not good at.

And sometimes they just get lucky.

Sylvester Stallone wrote Rocky. Explain that...

Film buffs and hardcore fans will opt for the UOT, but they will be in the minority. Don't ever assume that film buffs and hardcore star wars fans are representative of the movie going public at large.

If the UOT and SE were available separately, most people will only buy one or the other. Not both. That's two products cannibalizing each other in the market. And the cold hard truth is this: Most people who prefer the UOT, will settle for the SE if the UOT was not available. The crazy few who would actually prefer nothing rather than the SE are a commercially insignificant minority. It is only their business that Lucas is losing from the lack of UOT. The potential profits Lucas can make from their purchase would not justify the cost of properly restoring and publishing the UOT.

But the REAL cost of releasing a definitive UOT is this: Once film buffs and hardcore fans get their hands on a pristine copy of the UOT... most of them will never buy any incarnation of Star Wars ever again. They will never buy the special editions or final cuts or whatever versions Lucas might have on the horizon. For that reason, it makes more sense for Lucas to delay the announcement of a UOT until after he has made his final, final, special editions.

It's not that GL is a crazy person who doesn't recognize the historical value of the UOT. He's a smart businessman, and he knows well enough to stagger his product releases so they don't cannibalize each other. Angry internet nerds are just too angry to see GL's ratonale, and would prefer to attribute his decisions to stupidity.... when in fact, it's the angry internet nerds who are too daft to see the big picture.
