Added back in? I doubt it.

Although I'm sure he's going to mess with the films a bit more, as he seems to enjoy doing... so they'll be a little different than their DVD counterparts. Yoda is already getting the CGI treatment to replace his puppet version in Episode I.

Lucas said the deleted scenes would not be added into the films, but only shown seperately like on the prequel DVDs.

Good for the most part I like the pacing of the films and they all have solid run times, adding stuff back in could mess all of that up.

I was hoping SOME would be edited back in (TPM got the landing platform scene extension added on). I think the Birth of the Rebellion stuff in Ep3 definitely should be added...

I would love nothing more than for all the prequels to be re-edited. Phantom Menace runs way too long. Attack of the Clones should match closer to "The Phantom Edit" fanedit (less will-they-won't-they with Padme and Anakin. When they kiss on Naboo, they are together for the rest of the film). Revenge of the Sith REALLY needs to add the birth of the rebellion. Without it, Padme is the weakest character when she shouldn't be. Even a terrible character like Grievous has more to do than Padme does!

That said, I really like what The Clone Wars has done with the prequel characters (save for Jar Jar, there's nothing that can be done with him).

I take it you're referring to Attack of the Phantom? I saw it about a month ago and was surprised how much of a vast improvement it is -- more than even the Phantom Edit is over TPM.

If/when I get the SW saga on blu-ray, I highly doubt I will watch the prequel films again. They're just so awful on many levels. Instead of an Anakin track (where we obviously know what's going to happen), each film in the trilogy should have focused more on one of three characters. Obi Wan in TPM, perhaps, Jedi Anakin in AOTC, and Padme/children in ROTS.

Yes, I was speaking of Attack of the Phantom. Phenomenal! It actually makes Episode II VERY close to Empire Strikes Back in terms of quality. Shocking.

Your idea on the prequels would have been very interesting...

Where can I see that edit? Your suggestions above sound exactly like what I would have liked to see. Ep. I spent too much time on Anakin as a little dopey kid. Ep. II spent too much time on weird mysteries. Ep. III was good, but as you said, didn't do much to show the rebellion starting. These are nitpicks, I know, but I'm entitled to critique.

As for Jar Jar being the best character in the Star Wars universe? LOL Also, the Godfather is a terrible movie; puppies and kittens are ugly; hurricanes are awesome; Lindsay Lohan is cool and smart; and the Beatles are overrated.

I find it funny how people whine and complain about Lucas changing his movies...

Yet freely support the illegal butchering of the films by fanboys who have no right.

+1

Star Wars is Lucas's baby, he can do whatever he wants. The fact that he cares enough to go back to make them more the way he's always wanted them instead of just cashing in on releasing them countless times the way they are, which he easily could, is commendable in my book.

As far as I'm concerned, the amount of changes made to the films that I actually like far outweigh those I don't, which is why I prefer the special editions.

Lucas didn't "rape" my childhood, he made it more enjoyable. I will continue to enjoy the entire saga for many years to come, whether Han shoots first or not, they're still the same movies.

It's cool if you don't enjoy it, but "terrible"?

I think you miss the point of the complaint. It has nothing to do with his alterations of the films-- it's his lack of regard and respect for the original versions. He could completely redo IV-VI as all cgi movies for all I care, or shoot and add more footage to each film to fit better with the prequels, anything he wants. THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. The problem is refusing to remaster and preserve the original versions from '77, '80, and '83. Its really as simple as that.

Back in the 90's this was a non-issue because you had the option of either version on VHS or Laserdisc-- no problem so far. It was once DVD came around and now especially with Blu-Ray that this became a problem, as only the further enhanced/color altered Special Editions were released properly on DVD. Same now here with the Blu-Ray. Is it really unreasonable that people want the unaltered trilogy in remaster high definition to watch on a big screen? Those non-anamorphic laserdisc masters from 1993 don't really cut it anymore. I really don't think it is much to ask.

No, I get the point entirely. I just disagree with the point. The original inferior "workprint" cuts have been retired.

They should have remained entirely retired after the "Final Time On Home Video" VHS release.

Frankly they should never be restored or released again. Because they don't satisfy his artistic vision of the films.
