I've watched I-III so far and I agree with you. TPM has many softer scenes, most notably on Naboo. However, AOTC and ROTS are just about crystal clear.

It was there from the start! If you watch the original docs, they talk about how he wanted a BIG musical number and that they worked to make it as close to his vision as they could, but in the end, the puppets were too crappy and the musical number was scrapped. So that change is something he TRULY wanted back in the day, and it woulda been in there if those puppets had worked out.

Also, has nobody just hit the "Play All" button on discs 7 & 8? The Boba Fett 'toon is automatically played through that feature. Best way to watch the docs, me thinks.

l don't know the name of the original song that was cut and replaced with that crappy little CGI pigmy number in ROTJ, but l seem to remember it was actually a groovy little tune. Sure wish l could listen to it in 6.1...

So how does everyone grade the changes in the Star Wars films?

Jedi Rocks: I love this change - and I love the song. This is the one good place where I don't mind CGI characters walking all over the place because it's Jabba's palace - he gets all kind of creatures coming to his place.

New song at end of Return of the Jedi replacing Nyub Nyub: I love both versions.

Hayden ghost: I hate this change the most.

Obi Wan scream: I don't care.

Han vs. Greedo
: I love the new version. I didn't like the awkward editing of the Greedo shooting first in the last version.

Darth Noooooo!: Not as bad as I thought, the first "no" sounded like a retarded person. It should have been delivered in a different way.

R2-D2 hiding behind CGI rocks: I don't care.

A New Hope Jabba: I prefer the movie without that Jabba but it doesn't bug me that much.

Lightsaber colors: I don't care.

Blinking Ewoks: I don't care.

Phantom Menace CGI Yoda: I didn't care about weird-looking puppet Yoda before but the change is cool.

A New Hope Stormtrooper "bonk sound" when he hits the head: I love this addition.

Why is the Hayden ghost looking down then up when he appears? Is there a reason he does that? It is some type of "awww shucks, I don't deserve to be a jedi ghost" that Lucas is trying to convey?

Also - I need to get a 5.1 or 7.1 setup - anybody know of a not too expensive one with small speakers?
It was originally filmed poorly. That's entirely Lucas's fault for not realizing it while filming Han.

Somebody spliced together all the segments available from bonus footage on dvd to show what it looked like when they filmed Han talkinbg to Jabba.

Why Lucas thought a bad cgi model and Han being that close would suddenly work now I have no idea.

Watching Empire last night, I am surprised that something along the lines of the Taun-Taun stop motion effects were left untouched (thankfully – very grateful this is the most un-f’d with movie) but that something as minute as the Ewoks blinking was addressed – or some additional rocks in front of R2. Have to wonder what he’s paying attention to and making notes on.

Also as noted numerous times (but I have to reiterate) the PQ of Revenge of the Sith is near flawless. And the movie itself sits up in the number 3 slot of the six for me (behind V, IV). It had been awhile since I watched it and those last 30 minutes are amongst the greatest in star wars history.

And I have to say that the scene at 1 hour 10 minute mark where Anakin and Padme are looking out across Coruscant is the most effective and powerful minute those two share in the entire three films, and is one of the most defining moments of the 6 films. everything goes to hell thereafter.

Loving this box set.

We watched about 2/3 of Star Wars last night before my daughter had to do her homework.

I like Obi's new dragon scream, sounds more scary and hit the sub harder

We all wondered how R2 got behind that new rock in the scene, but we figured it's R2, he always finds a way.

ENTIRE ORIGINAL JABBA SCENE - YouTube

I remember seeing that at one point. It's just weird to have that scene at all because it ruins the awesomeness of seeing Jabba in his palace for the first time. Even with seeing him in TPM its just strange to turn him into some dude whose tail gets stepped on. He's supposed to be a big nasty, powerful and untouchable.

Know what I"m saying?

Truly - I should not be negative because the movies are blowing my mind. I've never been a HUGE Star Wars fan but with the blu-ray set I'm now rabid.

Loving this set!

the Jabba CGI is very dated looking. it could have at least been updated with technology not from 1996.

And I have to say, if they're going in and adding new creatures that are freshly animated, why not update the lasers? I'm sure that kind of change would take forever (with each individual shot).

That being said - I LOVE this set! Might watch them again with the commentary.

Hope to watch the final episode tonight.

Not sure I want to live in this world anymore now. lol

I just can't imagine why anyone would think these changes were good or actually needed to be done.

Thanks !

They didn't change that much. If you can't recognize the film with a few touch-ups, I don't know what to tell you.

That's kinda like not being able to recognize a lifelong friend because they're wearing a new hat.

They did. It was redone in 2004 for the DVD release. You might want to look at the old SE version sometime.

Have you seen the original version of Return Of The Jedi? Of course they changed a lot. More so then any of the other films. Way more then just a few touch ups

Yes I have. I have seen it numerous times since 1983 in the theater. Likely several hundred times.

I own it on Betamax, VHS, and Laserdisc. As well as the "Bonus Disc" from the last DVD release.

There's very little changes to any of the movies other than ANH. The number of minutes of changes is miniscule.

And honestly? I can't even really stand or enjoy watching those original versions anymore. Especially ANH.

If you honestly think there's "MORE" changes to RotJ than there is to ANH or even TPM, I dunno what to tell you.
