And honestly? I can't even really stand or enjoy watching those original versions anymore. Especially ANH.
Same here and I respect your opinion I am glad you enjoy these versions better but no way does this new ROTJ resemble the original anymore. Yes ANH had a lot of changes in it but they were not anywhere as jarring as ROTJ is now.

The argument that it's only a few minutes is the worst argument someone can come up with. 5 seconds of no is enough to ruin the entire climax of the movie to many for example. Minor changes can also stick in someone's head for the duration of the movie.

Better to stick to explaining why those changes are better or why they don't hurt the movie in your opinion than using a weak argument like that.

Agree with that. I never had a problem with that change for the same reasoning.

Lol I don't care who you are, "Jedi Rocks" is a huge change.

It would be like the Fellowship hitting The Prancing Pony, and suddenly, right after Frodo disappears with the ring on (tense scene), some CG Elvis impersonator creature gets up and sings a contemporary song, with backup dancers and out-of-sync actors pretending to play drums in a made-up, muppet-sounding language.

I don't see how anyone can say that change isn't jarring... unless you were getting a Barney & Friends vibe from Jabba's palace in the original version, which I was not.

Ditto. It fits the mythology of the movies far better than Sebastian Shaw's Ghost did.

For me, it's just like replacing the OLME Emperor from ESB with the "Real" Emperor.

A necessary change that fit the story of the films better than the version that was originally there.

Not really. It's replacing one musical number with another one.

Also getting rid of one of the worst puppets of the OT. It's the proverbial Puppet Yoda from E1.

Sure the tempo is a bit more wild and crazy. But it fits Jabba's Palace much much better than before.

This pretty much sums up your manifesto right here. Not only do you like the changes, but you don't even like the originals anymore. That's just how great they are.

Yeah and it wouldn't make a difference if they replaced "Grease is the Word" in Grease with a totally different song either, because it's "just replacing one musical number with another".

Your rationalization of every awful change made to these movies is getting to the point of parody.

George could replace Jabba with a giant turd and you'd call it a metaphor.

just a minor thing, but at least Luke had seen his father as the old Anakin and was looked upon "by his own eyes". that was the only face of his father that he knew.

with the young Anakin, Luke could have been thinking "who the f*ck is this guy?"

Yeah, how dare I have a different opinion than you do about something. Every fan is supposed to fall in-line with the same exact opinion and thinking about the movies and changes. And what I'm saying is true. I bought the sets with the bonus discs that have the old LD encodes. Watched them once, and didn't feel any interest in watching those retired versions again. I may not love every new tweak and change, but for the most part the films are greatly improved by the changes. You'll notice I'm not the one insulting you for liking what versions you do. I'm sorry my opinions hurt you so much.

Do you honestly think that Luke is that stupid? I know he's a dumb blonde from the ass end of space. But he's not an idiot.

I was watching Return of Jedi last night with my girlfriend and her parents and that is what my GF's parents said. "Why is Luke not scratching his head and saying, WTF is that guy?" lmfao

Also - I need to get a 5.1 or 7.1 setup - anybody know of a not too expensive one with small speakers?
Personally, I would start with a 1/2 decent receiver. I've seen the Yamaha go on sale (Newegg) for $229 that supports the new HD audio (or at least has a HDMI in). Borrow some cheap speakers to start and build your system over time. That is what I did.

Or if you have $400 - you have alot of choices with Onkyo, Yamaha, etc.

Clearly, it is a common reaction so people are thinking the same thing.

After watching a fair bit of this set, I must say, Episode 1's transfer is pretty atrocious. The print has been pretty much obliterated for this release.

I think satellite speakers can be had for really cheap. Just a set of five crappy ones, a decent powered sub and a simple receiver is a good start. Or; AFAIK speaker cable hasn't really changed in decades. You could probably nab some ancient speakers at a thrift store for mad cheap.

Be careful with HDMI receivers, though. Some of them won't even push a 5.1 signal over HDMI. It can be very, very misleading.

I wouldn't recommend anybody to just settle on crappy speakers though. Yes, having physical surround speakers will give you the spatial effect but when you are using crappy speakers, a LOT of the details in the soundtrack gets lost. You're basically binning a substantial amount of the audio.

It's odd, The Phantom Menace is easily the worst-looking of the bunch, even though it released in 1999.

At least Empire looks fantastic.

Cool story bro.
A guy against the change says that people he knows are against the change. Wow.

Meanwhile, the reaction in "reality" else is zip. Nobody comments on the change, many don't realize there ever was a change. On the internet, most people had stopped arguing about it six years ago.
