If they aren't being re-released then it kind of defeats the purpose of the preservation IMO. If the preserved copy is locked up somewhere where no one can access it or view it, it's rather pointless.

Eh, even distribution is a gray area IMO. I don't think that they should be allowed to sell them and make money off of them. But if they are distributing fan edits/fan preservations of past versions to people who have already bought officially released copies of the movies several times over, I don't really see the harm in it.

Or....

He googled "Anakin Skywalker" and learned all about this dad's role in the Clone Wars, as a hero and saw plenty of Pics of his dad.

Also have Lebowski blu-ray and have to say that TPM looks better overall to me.
I didn't see any uptick in detail in the pod race scene. Everything just seemed smeary, drab, dark, soft... the CG stuck out like a sore thumb.

It's certainly far from the worst-looking BD I own, or anything like that, but compared to the rest of the set, even a 34-year-old 'A New Hope', it looks awful. It's like a mid-tier catalog release from the early 1990's, and for Star Wars, that's a shame. This movie could have looked stellar.

Exactly, my kids like the PT better and watch the Clone Wars cartoon.
The Seb. Shaw Anakin is wierd (they call him "egghead"). They much prefer the real Anakin at the end of Jedi.

Dude, don't give him ideas.

By 2045 everything in these movies will be sponsored.
Luke will Google™ Anakin.
Luke won't go to the Tosche Station to get some power converters, he'll go to Mopar™ and buy Pirelli PowerX Converters™ with his Mopar Rewards Card™.
Luke will remove Darth's helmet and he'll say "Let me drink some Pepsi™ with my own lips".
Han will refer to Intel™ chips, and Chewbacca's subtitles will reference Mac OSX.™
C3PO will be a Google Android™.
R2D2 will beep out the current McDonalds™ theme several times a movie.
The Emperor will suggest that Darth try BreatheRight™ Nasal Strips™.
Yoda will suggest Advil™ to take care of Luke's "pain, which leads to suffering".

Oh the possibilities are endless.

Well I guess that settles it then.

As long as children like the changes to movies made 20 years before they were born, I guess it's coo'.

El_Jay, while you're certainly entitled to your opinions, your opinions appear 100% negative re: this. I can't believe you truly think it's that bad; maybe you expected it to be bad going in.

I don't even like TPM but can still tell it looks great -- ESPECIALLY the pod race scene.

I watched Attack of the Clones last night and forgot how bad it is. Certain scenes were fantastic, such as seeing Luke's home from Episode IV and the Slave 1 / Obi-Wan space battle. But much of the movie bored the hell out of me, mostly the scenes with Anakin and Padme. Then any hope the movie had of keeping me entertained just falls apart when C-3P0 gets his head switched with a battle droid's.

The moment he says 'This is such a drag!" while his head is being pulled by R2, I felt like someone splashed me in the face with hot coffee. Closely followed by "I'm quite beside myself," at which point I wanted to snap the Blu-Ray in half. And while most people think Episode I is the worst of the prequels, I never had feelings like that while watching The Phantom Menace. I could never put my finger on which of the Star Wars movies was the worst. Until last night. AotC is a giant turd.

The fact is that Jar Jar was a mistake on Lucas's part. Lucas most definitely have realized that shortly after the film came out or at least he probably does now but the problem is that he can't just rip the character out of the film, that would make no sense. But let's forget all this shall we? Let's just focus on your ridiculous C3po and R2D2 comment. So based on your fuzzy logic, you're telling me the original Star Wars was a movie made for kids? Yeahhhhhhhh. Suuuuuuuure. C3po and R2D2 were never hated as much as Jar Jar ever was. C3po and R2D2 is the equivalent of Laurel and Hardy and it works. Jar Jar however, does not work nor did Jar Jar ever work out well in the film. Lastly, C3po and R2D2 were not put in to appease to kids, hell, the entire original trilogy wasn't even meant as a movie made for kids. It was a for genre fans. Jar Jar however was made for kids and that's fine but having Jar Jar in the new trilogy was a mistake because the character doesn't work. You can't just take random kid friendly things and throw it in randomly into a movie. If something doesn't work, it doesn't work, you can't make excuses for it and expect it to magically work.
I'm not a Jar Jar fan. But I get why he's in the movies and the purpose the character serves however I may disagree with his execution. But if he works for kids, then does he work? Apparently,he does. Lucas has stated time and time again that the original trilogy was made for kids, which is probably why we who saw them as kids are still talking about them as adults. I'd be willing to bet the 5 year-olds who saw Phantom Menace will be talking about it late, too.

And NEVER underestimate the primacy of the internet as a means to voice complaints. Most involved with the original trilogy have mentioned how relentlessly people bashed those films as much as praised them. I'd also be willing to wager that hate would be proportional to the amount of complaints The Prequels get. And if it seems like people are badmouthing The Prequels more than the old trilogy, where is the badmouthing coming from? On Star Wars threads and from obsessive Star Wars fans! For every angry letter Starlog Magazine may have gotten in the 80's, you get 100 posts complaining about issues with these films in this thread alone!

No uptick in detail but its clear enough. I did notice a progressive improvement from I-III but that is just because III was made later (thanks, capt obvious - i know).

It was just made at a weird time where digital was truly hitting its stride but wasn't quite there. Enjoy the movie and don't get too caught up! It still looks clear as hell on my led.

It was always there. It's part of the charming "sophisticated" and superior humor of the old trilogy, like Yoda fighting with R2 about a flashlight or C3PO getting splattered with goo in Jabbas palace...

I don't love it, but I remember chuckling at the C3P0 lines -- I thought (and still think) they were pretty clever.

I don't find Jar Jar anywhere near as annoying as I did when TPM was released. Maybe it's because my kids love him. Maybe it's because I learned to forgive and forget.

What bothers me more, now, is that I can't figure out if the Trade Federation was actually good...

Well, they were played. But when Nute Gunray says things like 'I won't be satisfied until I have her head on my desk,' I think it's pretty clear he's evil.

Not evil per say but rather not exactly honest (as a lot of business are in many situation). As for the head on the desk, I think Nute was just pissed off and being tricked and well who is it easier to be pissed off to, some teen girl or a dark lord of the Sith

Yeah good point...but Leia, et al., eventually became a "separatist" herself. I guess I forgot about the distinction.
