Don't blame Lucas for that.

The original cut of Top Gun, believe it or not, also earned a G, and so Tom and Kelly were brought back for a nudity-free sex scene, and several instances of profanity were added off-screen (i.e. "Maverick! You p***y!")

Such is the biz.
According to The Making of Star Wars by J.W. Rinzler, The ratings board split on giving Star Wars a G or a PG and it was Twentieth Century-Fox that "asked for a stricter rating." (p. 289)

It's 2010 and George still doesn't have it right? I think he needs to pick another career.

If he wants to tinker with it, so be it. I feel that every version should be made available, more so the original release versions (all 3 1977 versions at that).

George Lucas talks about what he always wanted, what he always intended, yet with the S.E. he never goes back to that. It leads me to believe that he himself has no idea. Case in point, Greedo. Not about Greedo shooting first or Han, but the original intent and dialogue of that scene before Jabba the Hutt's scene had been cut out because George felt that ILM would not be able to do the job in time. (p.232) The Making of Star Wars

According to The Making of Star Wars, (p. 252) new dialogue had been typed up for Greedo to explain more of the Han Solo background. If George says he is about his original vision, why not re-dub the Greedo dialogue and re-edit the scene to show the original intent. There is no need for Greedo's exposition on Jabba the Hutt if we are going to meet him in a few scenes, that's sloppy storytelling and defeats George's perfect story.

The original Greedo scene was meant to show that Han Solo needed to watch his back at all times and that Obi-Wan and Luke would have an added risk in their journey to rescue the Princess.

Ok. That makes more sense. It seemed a bit odd to read his post, knowing the title reveals when the saga will be released. Sometimes it makes it a little confusing when the mods merge threads.

At one point, Lucas had said that there would be a grand-edition of the trilogy with the entire thing edited into one big movie, in numerical order (I - VI). It was implied it would be for a later "super box set" release on DVD.

As it does not seem this is what we will be getting with this Blu-ray release, it seems that the idea has either been abandoned or is being held back for a future double dip

The only mistake in my eyes is that if you're presenting the series as a complete saga (episode i-vi) then the cover of the original should read "a new hope" and not "star wars." however, since i prefer the originals without the prequels, those covers would suit me very well if i ever happened to be able to get the original trilogy by itself.
