There was nothing to indicate that a sell-out at retail was imminent. If nothing else, Star Wars is always a safe and surefire bet for retailers, so pre-orders and on-hand inventories would have been substantial in anticipation of heightened consumer interest. With that said, you have to wonder just how much the backlash contributed to dampened sales. If anyone thinks that the changes made by Lucas and shown in the leaked videos leading up to the release date didn't have some impact on overall sales, then denial and delusion have gotten a stranglehold on their senses.

Of course, there is a minority among us who have no interest in the prequels (myself included), so the Complete Saga would have never been purchased to begin with, regardless of how attractive the price point is/was.
There were only 6 copies of the PT sold.

This was the first edition to have a bunch of changes done to them.

More changes have occurred since then starting with the 2004 DVDs and even more with the Blu-Rays.

Just a few of them from the 2004 DVDs are:

-The CGI Jabba in ANH was completely redone to look better than the one in the 1997 version.

-Hayden Christiansen appears in place of the original actor, Sebation Shaw, as Anakin in ghost form at the end of ROTJ.

-In TESB, they redid the holographic appearance of the Emperor so that it is now Iam McDiarmid playing the part (he plays Palpatine/The Emperor in ROTJ and all of the PT movies... TESB was originally the only one that he didn't play the part in, and was the first movie in which the character ever appeared in their original order of release) and some of the dialogue was changed.

-Boba Fett's lines were rerecorded by the actors who plays Jango Fett and all of the Clones in AOTC and ROTS, since Boba is supposed to be a clone of him.

-The Celebration at the end of ROTJ was changed a bit from the version made in 1997 to add in some of the planets from the PT into celebrating the fall of the Empire.

(There are probably more, but those are the bigger ones that I can think of off-hand).

For the Blu-Rays, all of the above DVD changes remain intact, and some new ones include:

-Vader yelling "No. Nooooo" at the end of ROTJ when he grabs the Emperor the throws him down the big vent shaft thing. In all previous versions, he didn't say anything.

-CGI Rocks being placed in front of R2 when he is hiding from the Tuskan Raiders (to make him look more hidden) at the beginning of ANH.

-Obi Wan having a new yell or whatever that he does to scare off the Tuskan Raiders in that same scene. This is the 3rd version of this sound (it was previously redone in one of the previous sets of revisions, but I forget offhand if it was the 1997 or 2004 versions).

-CGI eyes being added to Wicket and several other Ewoks so that they can now look around and blink, etc.

-While not part of the OT, Phantom Menace has an all new CGI Yoda in place of the awful looking puppet.
Thanks for all the info. So I'm assuming since I have the gold packaging I have the Fullscreen instead of Widescreen? ...bummer

It definitely is, I mean the volume, and no, it's not a big deal.

Thor around 2.5 million
Star wars around 1 million
Star Wars OT should be around 65,000 copies (which is insignificant in overall numbers)
Star Wars PT didn't even make the top 25 in sales.....

Finished ROTJ lastnight to complete the series.
I can handle the second "Nooooooooooooooo" added to ROTJ but that first "No" just sounds fake and out of place. I can't believe Lucas thought that first "No" sounded adequate or even good.

Was that number for worldwide or in the US?
If that is worldwide, then SW did very, very well!!!

I guess that puts in into perspective.

But to understand this you have to understand Greek Mythology, Flash Gordon, the Zodiac signs, how to blend fruit smoothies without needing to follow a recipe, the meaning behind the final episode of Quantum Leap, the concept of Laser Tag (as opposed to the product Laser Tag), and regularly watch reruns of Thomas the Tank Engine and Captain Kangaroo!

Once you think about greek mythology and the concept of laser tag and undestand how they relate to the meaning of the series finale of Quantum Leap from the view point of Sir Tophmm Hatt, THEN it all starts to come together and you can understand Star Wars on a much deeper level than you've ever experienced anything before!

They kidnapped and killed his mom. No moral ambiguity here, they are pieces of shit. It's supposed to be an emotional upheaval for the character and we're supposed to be appalled, but I was like "right on".
Yoda says in ROTSith to rejoice when someone you loves becomes one with the Force and don't try to stop whats coming. Which leads me to ask after ROTSith, wouldn't Darth Vader's redeeming action be letting Luke die and rejoice that he became one with the Force? And then allow himself to be killed by The Emperor? The whole reason he enlisted with the Sith was to stop people from dying, so isn't Vader's return to good a little thin?

So I'm one of those guys who bought the Prequel Trilogy set only-- Although I think the movies are failures, I find them interesting failures, and figured if I'm going to watch them, I'd rather watch them in HD on my big screen. Got it for 30 bucks at Toys R Us, and 10 bucks a movie was acceptable to me for the prequels.

While I agree Episode I's pq was a tad problematic (but still a vast improvement from the DVD version), I was pretty impressed with the quality of both Episode II and III.

Did anybody else mention the alterations to Episode II? I think Shmi Skywalker's new dialog was brought up, but it actually was a great addition that makes that particular moment less cornball-- I always used to laugh at Anakin going "no.... mom" in his sleep, but now with her screaming, it makes the scene look less silly.

Also, I'm not TOTALLY sure if this is new, but I'm pretty sure in the scene where Obi-Wan goes to capture Jango Fett, there is added dialog of Jango saying "Boba, get in the ship!" before he starts shooting.

Overall, while I absolutely loath the altered editions of the OT (which is why I didn't buy them), I actually think the enhancements done to the prequels really are improvements, and this is a fine Blu-Ray set of the prequel trilogy.

I could be wrong, but I thought that was always there.

Ralph Pott's review.

Love that man's balanced views and I think his review may e one of the best I've read yet. Also, his review for Transformers is up on the home page - he gave it a perfect score, for anybody who finds perfect scores interesting.

I didn't realize that any dialoguge had been changed in Ep II for the BD release. I'll have to do some comparisons with the DVD version this weekend.

Dying and being killed are two different things?

He couldn't stop his mom or wife from dying, but he finally succeeded, he saved his son.
