It was replaced years ago and will most certainly be replaced on the BD. You can see the CGI yoda in the special features of the Ep III DVD.

well i hope there is an version that doesnt have CGI yoda cuz i love phil tippets work with the puppets, it looks leaps and bounds better then any CGI.

and while we're on the matter, that is horrible conituity with the clonetroopers. how the hell can they be so accurate in the PT and be good shots and then in the OT the stormtroopers are kinda lame at being good shots? storntroopers look is better as well. i just cant accept the clones especially since they are CGI.

Um, no. Episode III's Yoda looked leaps & bonds better than any Yoda that's come before. Episode I's puppet looked terrible, bad when you consider how the OT one looked decent.

And Phil Tippet did not have anything to do with Yoda.

If you didn't know the clones were CG I bet you wouldn't be complaining. There's plenty of modelwork people think is CG in the PT trilogy, and plenty of CG people think are modelwork.

The back story established that the quality control of the stormtroopers fell off over the years.

Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi Yoda was the absolute best hands down. God CGI can kill a movie fast when over used.

Yeah, we already had that discussion in this thread IIRC, probably a hundred pages ago by now, but CGI should probably used now for Ep 5 and 6. It was great work, then, but like the strings on the TIE fighters, the muppet has gotta go.

As much as I like practical effects, I have to admit that the puppet Yoda in Episode I was terrible. It has been replaced with CGI, done years ago. Only this blu-ray release will be the first time we see it on home video. However, the puppet Yoda stays in Episodes V & VI, Lucas will not change it to CGI.

And Phil Tippet never worked on Yoda, puppet work is not his expertise, he's one of the best stop-motion artist before CGI existed. When he was hired to work on Jurassic Park, it was first for stop-motion work. But when Dennis Muren test shots of CGI dinosaurs were presented, the stop-motion approach was abandoned. However, Phil stayed on the project supervising the dinosaurs motion and movement. His company Tippet Studios later focused on CGI, one of their best known work was for Starship Troopers.

The CGI Yoda from the last two prequels looks like a FAKE cartoon. The one from the originals looks a lot better even though you can detect some puppet mannerisms in it.

And as previously stated...Lucas will replace Ep I Yoda with CGI and hopefully it will not look as bad as the one from II and III.

I do not believe that he has reached that level of insanity YET, change to the versions from V and VI. But we will just have to wait and see.

Its a shame that some ILMers do not post here and give us some tidbits on the changes of the upcoming BDs.

I'm all for practical effects, but Episode I NEEDS to be replaced because, from a design standpoint, it looked terrible. And since II and III are CG, it only makes sense.

Under no circumstances should V and VI Yoda be replaced, nor will he. Lucas isn't going to do that.

Well, hopefully with todays improved tech, he will re-touch eps II and III Yoda also to give him a more realistic look.

It hasn't been confirmed, but read Dotpattern's post above. 3686. It hasn't been "confirmed," but Lucasfilm has done it, so it's very likely going to be on the Blu.

I don't actually think the Ep1 Yoda is all that bad on it's own.... it's just not consistent with the look they did with the Ep 2 and 3 CGI. IOW, they based their CGI model on Ep 5 and 6 instead of basing it on Ep1 "younger Yoda" so now it's just an odd duck.

The theatrical versions of the OT had a soft, believable, non-flashy look. The color "correction" on the 2004 DVDs turned Star Wars into an oversaturated CGI wonderland.

The 2004 versions erased one of the main things about Star Wars that was so influential to the sci-fi genre. Star Wars was fantasy, but it had a very grounded, real look to it. The 2004 version looks like a cartoon. Way too flashy.

I won't be buying the BDs unless they include theatrical cuts with quality superior to the 2006 non-anamorphic transfers. I don't mind having the special editions on my shelf to take a look at every now and then, but I can't imagine ever buying them again without the theatrical versions.

You probably won't be buying Star Wars in HD anytime soon then.

you can gt some fantastic cuts over at the original trilogy site. Not quite as good as an official release quality wise but far better than those laser dic rips that Lucas threw in with that last set. I was greatly suprised with the quality and really there are some better cuts of the special editions as well for those interested.
