I've been lurking, just reading the feedback (and the bickering), and I've been a bit nervous due to all of the talk of there possibly being defects in the discs. From what I've seen, however, the playback issues seem to be most prominent on Panasonic brand players.

I'm from Canada, but I live in South Korea, and I had my set delivered to me from Amazon.ca. I don't want to return the set (though I've noticed that, despite being overpriced, the blu-ray set that was released here in S.Korea has the superior EU packaging), but if it turns out that my discs have playback issues as well, I'll obviously have to, which would be a bummer.

Anyway, I only have a PS3 for my blu-ray movie needs, so I was wondering if anyone has encountered any issues while playing the movies on a PS3 (slim, latest firmware)?

I've only just started watching them, and The Phantom Menace didn't have any issues (figures).
Didn't have any issues on my end - as far as I know, the only issues come if your player is bitstreaming, and since my receiver can't decode lossless (only play them), I'm not set up like that. Just make sure bitstreaming is off.

If you have any other issues turn off the Internet and try again. You shouldn't have a problem. I had no issues.

Just did EP4, my personal favorite and I must say that the PQ was actually more impressive than any of the prequels. Its just about perfect. The AQ, while not quite as immediate as a modern audio track was excellent nonetheless.

What a great set this has been. We've done 1,2,3,4 and just have 5 and 6 left to go.

Cannot wait.

They are actually warming up before the big fight, so they do not pull any hammys.

I can't see how anyone could say that Vader vs. Obi-wan (RotS) is worse than the ANH fight. Was that fight even choreographed? It looks like the only direction they got was, "just whack at one another with these". Now the Empire fight is actually really good, the best of the OT if you ask me. Sure the Sith fight goes on for awhile, but it's really what the entire PT was coming down to, we all knew it was going to happen.

That first saber duel in ANH was based on fencing. They would later ad more energy to the saber duels with the Luke/Vader fight in ESB. Although I do not like the prequels, my favorite saber fight is the Maul/Obi/Qui-Gon throwdown.

Hey Nathan, thanks for the excellent (and encouraging) feedback!

I'm looking at discussions on the PCM/Bitstream, and I'm using an optical cable to connect my PS3 to my receiver.

People are saying that, for optical, bitstream should be the setting. So should I really switch the setting to PCM, or will it even matter?

Listen to the Archival Commentary for ANH during the battle. Even the Choreographer for the fight wishes they could redo it.

They had to half-ass the battle in a number of areas, including the passion of the battle because they kept breaking sabers.

That's why Obi-Wan gets stabbed by Dooku's Saber twice in AotCs and has the walkway dropped on his legs in RotS.

To explain Obi-Wan's limited dueling abilities by the time ANH rolls around. And it works well enough I think.

The lightsabers were completely freaking cool and from Day One kids from six to sixty were pretending to wield them but yeah, as a duel it was pretty mediocre at the time too.

It was more a western style showdown. A lot of tension, a lot of snarling, a lot of steely-eyed stares all culminating in one or two gunshots. Don't get me wrong, it worked and it worked extremely well but not as a fight.

That's one of the reasons everybody was so floored by the duel in Empire.

That was a freaking duel.

How the hell does that work?

He's presumably injured, yet somehow after having a walkway dropped on him he does what? That's right: he goes to a volcanic planet, shows the precision of a gymnast by balancing on rigging and flipping through the air and then kicks Vader's whiny little b!tch @$$.

Clearly his injuries had no immediate effect on his health seeing as though Vader ended up getting sliced and diced just fine.

I think old age is more plausible than anything because it's.... plausible. Everything else seems to be reaching for an explanation when none's needed. Vader's mostly machine and Obi-Wan's an old man.

Yes. The age is also a significant part.

Ever heard of Arthritis? Naturally the injuries would be treated at the time by bacta.

But just like how people in real life when they develop arthritis, it's often worse in areas that were previously injured.

Aaaah.... This explains why Obi-Wan was limping around during his fight with Anakin, the guy could barely move!

Oh, but you're forgetting that dry Tattoine air. Sure it plays hell with everybody's skin but it should do wonders for arthritis.

Well, I finally received my set from DD, and just watched Episode I and II. First, has anybody encountered glitches on Ep.II around the 01:39:XX mark (when Anakin is with Shmi) and around 02:00:XX (when Yoda talks to the Clone Troopers)? They both skip for a few seconds. I took the disc out and re-inserted it (cool thing is that it remembers where you left off) and played the same scenes and the glitch still appeared. Might have to get replacements.

OK, so now for the mini-review...Episode I does look a bit processed, and you'll notice it even more when you watch Ep.II right after (32" TV I'm sitting 5' away, calibrated with THX Optimizer from Terminator 2 blu-ray). As for the sound, AMAZING , even when I have an old cheap Philips HTIB.

However...after watching Ep.I, I can say that it became my least favorite SW film. Seriously, it is boring, with no interesting characters, Jar-Jar IS annoying, and a plot line that makes no real connection to the SW universe. Totally unnecessary movie in the canon. Skip it.

I just finished with AOTC, and I can say that it got better with time. The pacing is great, and even when the whole mystery is solved in a weird way, Obi-Wan doing some investigative work does work in the movie. The romance scenes are not as bad as I remembered (or people make them to be), and the last 40 or so minutes, just pure amazing SW eye and ear candy.

Tomorrow I'll catch up with Ep. III, and hopefully the rest during the week. TIA for any help on the glitch.

I don't understand why you're trying so hard to tie the two trilogies together. The answer is simple: in ANH Obi-Wan fights like an old man because he is an old man, in the PT old men fight like super heroes because George Lucas lost his mind.

speaking of ROTS, and the walkway scene...

how in THEE HELL did Obi Wan ever recover from that?? He had a ton of metal just crash DIRECTLY onto his legs! I'm sorry but you can't use the lame "the Force healed" him excuse on this one. I never understood that part. There's a lot of stupid shit in the prequels but that one just sticks out like a sore thumb.
