personally, I prefer emotional subtitles to voiceovers

Subtleties or subtitles? Emotional subtleties suck, I'm 100% with you with the subtitles idea though.

Just watched the last of the prequels. Tomorrow I will start with A New Hope, although I cheated and took a brief glimpse. With the 3 prequels, I certainly have NEVER held them in high regard. After watching the first one on Blu-ray, I walked away from that just as my friend and I did back when it first came out in theaters........basically saying to myself......what the hell did I just watch? I remember we both looked at each other and shook our heads in utter confusion and disbelief, having seen all 3 originals in theaters as kids back in 77-83. Pathetic movie even in HD. It's also easily the worst of the 3 prequels in terms of PQ. The second movie has good and great moments for sure, although any of the romantic sequences between Padme and Anakin make me want to barf or put a gun to my head. Improved PQ for sure over 1st prequel. That leads us up to the 3rd prequel. Again, some good and great moments to be had, with PQ being the best of the three. Personally, my favorite moments in number 3 are still the whole ending tie-ups right from the point Padme gives birth and names the kids. IMHO, from that point until the end of the movie are the only moments that truely "feel" STAR WARS. Well, except Vadar's dumb-ass NOOO! I've said it before and will say it again, the prequels simply look like and play out like video games. Even the brief glimpse I took of A New Hope, that I mentioned earlier, already tells me that the PQ for the originals is far better than the flat, uninteresting digital crap the prequels are made of. That old analog film just shines and dare I say, looks human. I can't wait to sit down to 4,5 and 6.

The only way for me to get through The Phantom Menace is to ensure that I'm not in the least bit sober. The old lady warning Anakin about the storm and the aching in her bones suddenly becomes absolutely hilarious.

Which means that it was likely specifically meant to only be picked up or decoded by the Queen's Ship.

Sidious mentions that tracking the ship isn't impossible for a Sith. It's believed that the "Trace" that Maul mentions isn't a location trace from their equipment. But sensing their location through the force. Rememer, the Jedi weren't aware of the return of the Sith yet. So Sio Bibble's dire warning of what is happening on Naboo was meant to cause an emotional reaction. Warning them that people were "Suffering and Dying" would probably create a disturbance in the force for those watching/sensing for it. That's how I have always taken the scene. Though they could have just as easily piggie-backed the transmission.
No offense, but honestly - it does not bother you that you have to self-explain so much of the prequels? That's three times today I've heard someone reply with "what I think was happening..." This isn't supposed to be abstract cinema.

In the OT, Luke had a disturbing vision. Yoda says he is sensing the future. So Luke went to find them. Remove that vision scene and hey, Empire would be just like the prequels. Awesome.

Lucas has developed a haphazard approach to writing and to filmmaking. Shooting before a script has even been turned in. You cannot make a decent movie the way Lucas does nowadays. I remember reading an earlier draft of the script where the Maul thing actually made sense. But it all got chopped up in the final. I don't recall what it was exactly but I know I like your explanation better. The Great Creator does so much on the fly he literally can't keep track of all the plot hole weirdness. The guy is good with the broadstrokes, not good at the finer points of drama and storytelling.

Oh, and hey - I'll write your reply for you:

Nope, because there is nothing to be bothered by! I get everything just fine. It's all right there on the screen, exactly as the Creator intended.

I still have not watched my set. But I didn't get a chance to open it up and look through everything and I am going to say this... They really went out of there way with this release. Excellent cover art, amazing disc designs.

I'll try to get through the prequel trilogy before the end of the week. This will be my first time watching Star Wars from Eps 1-6 in true story order and the first time I'll be watching SW in about 6 years.

Me and some friends had a Star Wars Prequel Trilogy marathon tonight. All three in a row and we enjoyed every min of them. The video and sound was awesome. Tomorrow we're doing the original trilogy.

Some interesting trivia about Mark Hamill (Luke) that some of you might not know :

1) A day before he was supposed to be in the shoot for the final scene in episode IV A New Hope he had a major car accident which required seven hours of facial surgery. Because of the accident a double was used for the landspeeder pickup shots.

2) One of his two sons, Nathan, who was born during the filming of episode V The Empire Strikes Back, had a cameo role in episode I The Phantom Menace, he played one of the royal guards of Naboo.

3) Today's his birthday

just finished the OT!! Picture was amazing! i mean, almost flawlees. did any anyone notice in VI, when they are in the x-wing fighters, headed towards the Death Star, there was a light green box around the Death Star. Weird they didnt take that out. I watched all films without noticing the changes Lucas made except the "Noooo" and at the end, when Hayden Christensen is the new Anakin spirit instead of Sebastian Shaw. i was like OMG WTF. thats one change that almost ruined it for me.
ill watch the prequels along with special features sometime later.

I didn't know about the double, but the car crash is mentioned by Lucas on the DVD commentary for "Empire". I think he said something like, "I knew Mark would come back looking different; I didn't realize he'd be that different." Story-wise, I think Lucas rationalized the change by saying that Luke had been on Hoth for quite a while, so he'd probably been in a lot of fights with Wampas and such. I also heard a rumor that when Mark had the surgery, they didn't have a very recent picture of him for reference, so his face looked a bit odd as a result. I had no idea it took seven hours; wow!

Actually, I heard he played a pilot in the hangar scene, shortly before Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon face Darth Maul. I think he's the one in the middle, when Obi-Wan yells at them all to scatter. I think Lucas also mentioned in the "Empire" commentary, that Mark was filming the Cloud City "weather vane" scene, on the days before and after his son was born.

1983 to 2005, when the "Saga" was complete, is certainly a couple of decades.

Unless of course the "Saga" wasn't a fully functioning "Saga" with only 3 episodes, but miraculously became so with 4 episodes?!

Well at least you'll acknowledge that it at one time WAS an all-encompassing "Saga" with only 3 episodes, whereas I guess Beast just held off on watching any form of Star Wars until 2005, when it was "complete", and then watched them in numerical order. Man what patience, depriving yourself of Star Wars for 28 years, just so you can see it in the "real" order!

I would mind another 3 films set after the fall of the empire. Maybe set with the emergence of the sith lords or perhaps around the books. As long as they arnt as bad as TPM and AOFTC.

Nope. Why would it bother me? Even in the OT not everything was spelled out for you. It gave people fun topics and such to discuss about the films. It's a shame that people want everything spoon-fed to them now adays. You'd think that would be insulting for people if it did happen. I guess you must be one of those people who hate 2001, since you have to actually interpret the film and it's meanings for yourself.

Who is it believed by? I mean where are you getting this information?

Also, strange how Maul would be able to "trace" Padme from planets and planets away, when she's not only not "connected to" The Force™, but doesn't have The Force™ at all... but then Vader can't detect the Millennium Falcon with his own flesh and blood on it in a 2 mile radius!

I'm sure there's a very reasonable explanation for it, though, it can't be that The Creator© merely put moving the story along ahead of continuity... and I'm eager to hear it.

Obi-Wan in A New Hope was able to feel a great loss when Alderaan was destroyed many parsecs away. Perhaps Obi-Wan put up a shield that was strong enough to block Vader from detecting them, similar to how Leia's political veil blocked Vader from detecting she was his daughter.

Yeah, maybe.

I bet it was just windy out, we all know wind plays havoc with The Force™.

I also watched Empire Strikes Back yesterday, and I still don't get it why they didn't fix those damn lightsabers!
They have time to add other useless & silly stuff, but correct lightsaber colours are just too un-important to them.

And today I will finish the saga with Return of the Jedi. *Prepares emotionally for Vader's "Nooo!"*
