Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums and just have a quick question regarding PQ for ROTS. I'm wondering if I have a bad disc because while at times it looks stunning, there are several instances of really bad video noise! It's very distracting, in one scene in particular, in chapter 9 where Anikan & Padme are talking on the balcony at night. There is noise all over the skyscrapers on the right side of the frame and it's very awful looking. Does anyone else have this problem, or is your version completely clean looking like AOTC? I'm using a Sony Bravia LCD and Sony bluray player if that helps.

IMO I would like to see a sequel Trilogy to the OT. It would be nice see the rise of the New Republic and Jedi order.

Can you be more specific? There seems to be two instances in which they talk on a balcony in chapter 9. First one lasts around a minute, second one is after the nightmare and lasts about 100 seconds.

After the nightmare. The video noise on my copy is so bad that the 2 farthest skyscrapers on the right of the frame have no detail, just black and fuzzy! Bad disc maybe?

My thoughts on the Saga:

PT:

Ep I Quit complaining people. The video looked excellent on my Samsung. Audio shook my house, especially the pod race sequence.

Ep II Video and Audio Superb.

Ep III Video nothing but perfection. Audio was a bit lacking in my opinion.

OT:

Ep IV Couldn't believe how great it looks. Audio was excellent.

Ep V Besides being the best of the 6, the best looking and best sounding movie.

Ep VI Man not a good way to finish the saga. Video was stellar until they got to Endor, then it all fell apart. The space battle had many matte boxes visible; WTF. Audio was piss poor throughout.

Special Feature discs. Thought they had some good content, haven't gotten to it all yet. My huge gripe is that all of the material from the DVDs were not included. The easiest fix for me was to burn all three prequel discs and the original trilogy disc onto one Blu Ray disc using my Sony writer on my computer and DVD Fab 8.

Just my thoughts. Remember opinions are like a##holes, everyones got em.

This

It is a perfect assessment of the Saga.

The only thing I would add is the 3 Special Feature disc are lacking. This being the definitive collection it should have had everything that Star Wars has to offer even if they had to use more disc and the cost was higher. Anyone would have paid the extra cost for all the special features

I made a screenshot comparison, let me know if I got the correct part of the scene:

This is one of the reasons why I've been almost completely avoiding this thread. I mean, what are you really supposed to say to something like this?

I was born in '76 and grew up loving the OT, but outside of my warm and fuzzy nostalgia, it's not hard to see that PT Yoda is far more expressive and detailed than puppet Yoda.

I have a Sony BD player & Denon AVR and I have gotten audio problems as well, just letting the movie play from start to finish. I too have switched from letting the AVR handle the audio to letting the Sony do the work, but only on Star Wars. My other 524 movies do not have this problem!

Which means that it was likely specifically meant to only be picked up or decoded by the Queen's Ship.

Sidious mentions that tracking the ship isn't impossible for a Sith. It's believed that the "Trace" that Maul mentions isn't a location trace from their equipment. But sensing their location through the force. Rememer, the Jedi weren't aware of the return of the Sith yet. So Sio Bibble's dire warning of what is happening on Naboo was meant to cause an emotional reaction. Warning them that people were "Suffering and Dying" would probably create a disturbance in the force for those watching/sensing for it. That's how I have always taken the scene. Though they could have just as easily piggie-backed the transmission.
thanks for that. great information and analysis. however, I'm not convinced. the script already firmly establishes that "transmission" is the electronic transmission, with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon discussing ad-nauseum how the transmission should not be responded to. If Lucas wanted us to play mind games and read his mind into realizing that "transmission" isn't what he said it was in the film, but was really something to do with the force, he should have included a yoga mat with the film so I can meditate onto his brain waves.

You don't have to say anything just because someone posted something. He stated his personal opinion and you disagre, no reason to turn it into some sort of diplomatic incident!

2001 is my favorite film. 2001 never said X=black (transmission is electronic) but then required an interpretation of X=white (transmission is force).

Not to mention that Star Wars is a character-driven film, so its expected to provide the answers to plot questions surrounding those characters. 2001 isn't.

The Asteroid Field from Empire Strikes Back, hands down. It starts out with an amazing rendition of the Imperal March, then transitions into this great chase music with a few amazing fanfares, continues with a piece of Han Solo and the Princess and ends with a beautiful flute crescendo that musically reflects the Falcon's looping into the asteroid tunnel.

But it's also not hard to see that the puppet from Empire and Jedi despite all its limitations looks infinitely more real/tangible than the CGI Yoda. As good as computer graphics have become, they are still not quite there yet. There is always some eerie sense sterility and detachment left.

I have a sony es4300 receiver and have the same issue with the New Hope copy. My player is a Marantz.

Though I love me some Imperial March and Duel of the Fates, nothing quite does it for me like:
I really enjoy the closing of Revenge Of The Sith. Williams combined all other themes close out the saga in 2005. I really enjoy it.

You don't think he did? The answer is he didn't - but that wasn't his role. His role as an aging and decrepit Jedi was to try to train the new hope. Why would he pick up a lightsaber? Makes no sense.

And in 1980 when he picked up Luke's ship, when we hadn't seen any Jedi pick anything up through the force, yeah, we were all impressed. We continued to be impressed when Vader used the force to beat the crap out of Luke with flying objects.

There's a really good article about TPM from the director of Fanboys in the latest Star Wars Insider, for those interested. It's a very positive article about TPM, by the way.

Yousa are a broken record meesa tinks.

2001 is an amazing interpretive experience because the themes and concepts are designed to be outside our comprehension. But story-wise, it still moves point A to point B to point C. The overall mystery is there, but we don't have to guess why the Discovery is sent to Jupiter. This is a skill that is beyond Lucas. You are equating the end of 2001 to questioning how the hell Maul found the Queen on Tatooine? Wow. The Lucas fortunes are in good hands with people like you.

I WISH Lucas had been able to create a compelling 2001 type mythos surrounding the nature of the Force. But the guy clearly doesn't even understand it himself. We get one of the biggest mysteries of the Force explained away in a throwaway line (Oh, hey, btw, you can be immortal. Qui Gon told me).

Arthur C. Clarke and Kubrick had all the answers - they just chose not to reveal them. The novel spells it out in much more detail. Lucas plays a narrative and thematic shell game because he has no idea what he is doing. It is such a shame the PT wasn't fully written in the 70's. Before Lucas had kids and still had a true creative hunger. That is a trilogy I would dearly love to see.

You will never understand what I am talking about and that's fine. I truly envy the blissful little bubble you have created for yourself. If you enjoy having to make all these plot/narrative leaps yourself, then goodie for yousa.

But it must just baffle you how most of the world has problems with so many of the movies you love and vice versa (I've read your reviews on here - they all begin with "I don't understand why people are so negative about this movie). Yousa are lucky.

You just keep starting all of your replies and all of your thoughts with "Nope" and you will a happy guy until the end of yousa days.
