More random quotes from the Star Wars Saga

"look at the size of that thing"
"there's always a bigger fish"
"They're not much bigger than 3 meters"
"I don't know where you get your delusions laser-brain"
"Loosen up"
"Yippee"
"It's away"
"It's working, it's working"
"Yahoo!"
"Look out"
"It didn't go in, just impacted on the surface"
"Ickey Pooey"
"oops"
My favourite would have to be "Ickey Pooey"

I unfortunately can't see it too well on my small work laptop...I can see Padme in the TV set, I think? I think in front it's the mayor of Thomas & Friends....I think he is holding a blowdryer but I could be wrong and I can't see the stuff on the magazines, just too small on my screen.

Default Star Wars education for haters

Okay, why not post it in here too... Maybe someone is interested in something constructive for a change:

Buster Keaton was the classic Fall Guy, a sympathetic, well-meaning but clumsy character. He is the main influence for Jar Jar Binks. Two of Keatons greatest films "The Navigator" and "The General" are even mentioned in Episode 1 in reference to Jar Jar. "We need a navigator to lead us through the plants core" and "Wesa make you a bombad general."

Some of Keatons antics are even almost copied in the final battle:
Keaton running downhill chased by rocks. (Jar Jar runs from the boombas):
And his troubles loading a cannon:

Jar Jar even looks quite a bit like Keaton: The gaunt and long face and the bulky eyes... If you watch a couple of these movies you get where Jar Jar is coming from. It's one more reference to movie history in Star Wars.

Would Jar Jar fit in the original Star Wars? I don't think so. Does he fit in Phantom Menace? I'm not all that keen on that particular movie, but given the context of the rest of the film- other digital characters and environments, he seems to make sense. Does THAT statement make me an apologist?

This kind of reasoning is one side of a coin whose other says George Lucas can do no wrong. Neither is honest logic, no matter how they couch their terms. The only blanket statement that is true is that all blanket statements are not entirely true.
Jar Jar would fit into the following movies:

Sister Act
The Smurfs
Sister Act II
Howard the Duck

And this just makes me question Lucas's thought process even more. I can't imagine the logic of him looking at these films and going, "Now THIS is what's missing from Star Wars! Some slapstick comedy antics!"

Well he may just have wanted them as homage and nothing else. The trouble is that most of todays audiences would not even make the connection and even know who is Buster Keaton anyway.

"Buster who? Oh! That is boring it's so old and the dude is dead"

Also, Buster Keaton is a little above 'fart jokes' and 'stepping in crap' visual puns, so if its a homage, it is quite the miss (imo). Also, I do not recall Keaton walking like Mushmouth from Fat Albert either.

You're not looking into the deeper meaning through the eyes of fantasy and myth and laser tag, apparently.

The other inspiration for Jah Jah. People can deny this all they want, and I'm sure Lucas DID NOT intend it or do it consciously. But it is there.

And I'm not disputing you or ridiculing you either. I remember seeing an interview about the writing of Ep. 1 when he was just getting started and he took a break from writing to watch "the General." If only we had known what that would lead to...
