His 'vision' changes with every release. I don't that the guy sees anything at all.

Yes, back in '97. Allegedly the prints were 'altered'? Lucas also recalled all original prints a few years ago, right?

I know.

That's what I'm talking about.

That's why I said the stuff about "5 million dollars." To put it back together the way it was. "the version" as you call it.

YES! I want "THE VERSION!"

So splice it back together, do a new scan of it and release it to blu. What's the problem?

Heck, he should have included that with this set. I would have bought all the other stuff I didn't want just to have that.

The Special Edition IS the restored OT btw!!! Lucas restored the films for a theatrical release in 1997 and added a few effects. It's not even a different cut. It was even very well received back then as I remember. Only after Episode 1 in '99 everybody went crazy...

EXACTLY. Imagine if he was to have to go back and re-restore it for yet another edition. Colour code everything. Clean up the prints. Etc. Let's face it, if Lucas was ever going to release the original theatrical cuts, he's probably going to want to go back and do it from scratch. Plus going about it that way would be a much easier sell to get people to rebuy what they already own.

What does age have to do with it? But Star Wars (not A New Hope) was the very first movie I saw in theaters in '77.

Guys, I would really appreciate if someone could answer this for me. It would mean a great deal to me.

Me too. I was four-and-a-half, and barely remember the experience. The biggest thing that stood out for me in my memory was Luke's torpedoes heading for the shaft.

I think Doof thinks you're younger though, because Shaft over there believes the '97 SEs are the same cuts as the originals.

I guessed 8.

I found the scene that inspired Jar Jar receiving farts at the pod race.

Maybe NSFW - especially if you have a crappy boss.

Honestly, I don't even care about the originals anymore. Lucas has made me not care. All I want is for the now restored and clean negative or whatever IP, dupe, IN, whatever, to be re-scanned at 4K and colour-timed to reflect the DOP's original timings. I want perfect lightsabres and invisible matte boxes. That's it. It would not be that expensive - it would be no more expensive than releasing a back catalog title. I DO NOT care that the SE changes would not benefit from a re-scan because I hate most of them anyway.

I'm willing to pay for this! Through the nose! I will give him my money for this!

I grew up with the OT same as you. I owned different VHS-versions then saw them in cinemas in 97 and was blown away. The same with each prequel. I don't like this demand of some outdated version of these movies that is accompanied by hating the prequels - that's all! It's a clear improvement that Hayden has taken his rightful place in the ghost trinity at the end of RotJ. As I said before: What filmmaker would release movies for people who hate the movies? He may in the end give in and release them as some kind of bonus content with the 3D-versions... but I will always prefer the version that ties in with the complete saga!

Because there was only one print of the OT that could ever be used to restore them to original release version

Raise your hand if you believe the crap the Lucas is shoveling

Ok, cool. I'm just trying to make sure your confusion re: our re-scanning the neg discussion isn't due to being 10.

I remember getting upset when the Jawas shot R2-D2 in the Canyon. Poor R2. His little cry as he falls over gets me everytime.

In other words, you don't really recall the experience as it was originally experienced by the die hard OG Star War fans :P I sure as heck didn't, I watched them when I was 5, then 6, then 7, then basically every time they aired it on TV. Loved it. I think I had a totally different experience of it though. Basically the films were full of curiosities as I wanted to know what all the blinking lights did and how the trinkets worked.

That whole 'the negative is gone' is a bit of a red herring because you can restore films using interpositives and/or other hi grade close copies of that negative. There are options, and when Birth of a Nation is about to be released on blu do I in no way, shape or form believe for a split second an original trilogy release on blu isn't possible with excellent to outstanding results.
