There really is only one print ever. Unless there's seriously damaged lengths of the original print, they often do not splice in theatrical prints that were struck from the originals.

I remember my first viewing of Star Wars, on an old battered VHS. I was utterly blown away. I vividly remember a whoosh in my gut as the X-Wings roared through the Death Star canyons. I even thought they might fail to destroy it, and when Han came in ...

There's only one? Interpositive, internegative, the technicolor print? There were sources struck from these that were struck again which were the basis of the re-releases, the videos, etc. There is more than enough evidence to suggest that Lucas has been lying about the negatives being destroyed all along.

Lucas is a mythmaker of the highest proportions, he wants you to think the originals can never be restored so he doesn't hear about it anymore from the fans.

Serious. I have been renting the UOT DVDs from Netflix (the ones ported from LD), and a lot of the magic seems to be gone for me. So much damage has been done to that universe since '97 that I don't care about SW the same way I used too.

I still want an UOT on blu though.

But they don't 'strike from original's - there is one original of which hi grade copies are made and then hi volume production takes place. There are many useable elements out there.

Man, put a spoiler tag on that, I haven't seen it yet. Guess there's no point now

They understand what you are saying, but their position is that 'The Creator' has a vision and his current vision is the only acceptable vision. What you saw back in theaters in 1977, 1980 and 1983 is meaningless/not important.

It is useless trying to get them to see the POV of film history and the importance of the cultral aspect of it as a time piece from which the selected piece of art came. It is just as useless for them to try and convince others that the current versions are acceptable. No win situation for anybody.

"Move along, move along...."

Because they scan to digital files nowadays, there is a digital intermediary or master, but IPs and INs and "strike prints" are not really necessary anymore.

I honestly hope Lucas wasn't a TOTAL idiot and did indeed scan the OCN at 4K or higher and has a digital copy without the new colour timings already saved off somewhere. But I have massive fears. All because of the PT resolution and the resolution of the SE changes.

Just got and watched the films on blu. All of them looked and sounded phenomenal. Those annoying blue boxes around the ties and second Death Star in Return of the Jedi were my only gripe. However, since Jedi is my favorite of the six, I can overlook it. The last time I watched the films was on on my old 24 inch tube tv , so viewing them on a new 50 inch Plasma was a bit if a shocker. As for the extras, the included ones are spectacular. I did really miss the prequel deleted scenes and Empire of Dreams documentary however. The spoofs were hit and miss, and most should have been replaced with actual content.

Overall, I'd give the films a 10/10 and the extras 8/10.

I'm new to this forum (don't shoot!) & since I just got the Saga and I love Star Wars, I thought I'd skim through this long thread for a half hour. I was a bit shocked to discover that about half the posts are prequel bashing or personal insults. All that hate and negativity is unnecessary and unhealthy. Spreading hate does nothing but get people angry.

Agreed. This is exactly how I felt after browsing this thread. I don't mind if people don't like the films, but to dwell on that hatred for so long...

My family and I happen to love all 6 Star Wars films. To say that the prequels are universally disliked or that they are "laughable" is wrong. And yes, people really do like The Phantom Menace (not just kids mind you). Some critics really liked it; Roger Ebert gave it a 3.5/4 stars and called it fun, imaginative space opera at its best. Other critics, however, hated it. Some were neutral. The truth is the prequels recieved mixed critical reviews (just like the originals ).

To say that the fans don't like the prequels is also wrong. If surfing the web you see someone groaning about the prequels on a certain article or forum, they are most likely the exact same group of people that whined about it last week..and the week before...and the week before that...My point is that if someones truly despises something, they often get very vocal and repitative in their attacks, spewing hate and vitrol everywhere. Many people like the prequels, there's even a whole fansite called the Prequel Appreciation Society. Both the prequels and the originals are part of the one Star Wars Saga. Like it or not. If somebody wants to criticize a film in the Saga, that is perfectly fine, just don't get upset if someone chooses to defend it. If the debate gets too vicious, just agree to disagree. Simple as that.

I liked the idea someone had a few pages back about listing favorite Star Wars songs. Mine would be a four-way tie between Duel of the Fates, Augie's Great Municipal Band, The Imperial March, and Yoda's theme.

How about discussing your favorite scene from the films, or interesting behind-the-scenes info? Or how you got hooked on Star Wars? or which Star Wars planet you would like to live on? (I'd have to go with Naboo or Coruscant ) The possibilities are endless!

C'mon let's try and stay positive for a change...Let's bringe balance to the thread.

If your talking about a true restoration, yes, there's ever only ONE version of the film. Basically whatever was shot and developed from the camera. Colour coding, adjustments, etc. are done after scanning of the original. In the event which the originals are not available or are beyond repair, then one would have to go to the second best option which is to find the best quality copies that were struck from the originals. Again, using these copies of the originals should only ever be second best option.

I remember the excitement of the whole thing. As the years went on, and I became more mature, the meaning of the films changed for me. That's what was great about the OT: It was made for general audiences, not just for kids. You could see it as a kid, but grow up and still like it. You could get something different out of it as an adult that you didn't get as a child.

I found a ton of people who gave Phantom Menace an A+ at Yahoo Movies. There's a ton at IMDB who also gave it a 10/10, and from what I could see in my brief look at their reviews many of them said they prefer the PT.

Phantom Menace made almost a billion in just ticket sales alone.
Attack Of The Clones did very well too making 650 million in ticket sales out of a budget of 115 million, and Revenge Of The Sith managed $850 million in ticket sales and broke the single day box office record at that time.

You'd think that if your claim that so few adults liked Phantom Menace was true then episodes II and III would have been box office failures.

I was watching the B&W version of The Mist last night, and Darmont was addressing exactly that in his introduction.

finished Jedi. I noticed something I never encountered before. Since when Piett was demoted to captain again? When Vader promote him in Empire, he has captain insignia on his chest and when we see him after, he has admieal insignia, but in Jedi, he has captain insignia.
