I promise you, Lucas give's a restauration of the original 3 movies on Blu-ray, no special editions...just the originals as what it seem the entire planet wants (according to some even if sales seem to say otherwise) and the day of the release every forum on the net will be overloaded with complaint about how they mess this scene at 1 hour 45 minutes or how the contrast does not match what it was back in 1977 in theaters, never mind that most of them where not even alive to remember seeing it. At the end of the day, no matter what happen's they will not be happy.

Well, he dose have a very poor track record in the quality of these releases going back to the first SE release on VHS, so would that really even surprise anybody?

Kinda funny or sad how George seems to be the only one that cannot release his movies without major f-ups in them and not bother even trying to fix them. Maybe Coppola, Cameron, Speilberg, Jackson or Ridley Scott can give him some pointers whenever he decides to release something.

And doesn't his THX-1138 have problems too, in which the remedy is for the owner to buy a memory stick to get it to play. I was going to buy that one when the price came down, but not if he doesn't fix that issue.

Yes cause no one complaint about how Spielberg made changes to ET, as for Cameron well I won't even try to comment since he is right now everyone "enfant cherie". As example check how everyone is so ok with him doing multiple releases of Avatar, first theatrical cut, then a special longer edition and coming up a 3D edition. Anyone else doing this would have been ripped apart by all the fans. Yet because he as done Avatar well now everyone is just so willing to accept all that without a word. Yet it's funny how those of us who don't mind the way Lucas want's to release Star Wars, we are stupid fanboys who have no concept of quality. It's rather funny how that work's really.

Re: Spielberg. As I recall, he was pretty soundly mocked for editing police weapons out of ET. More to the point, doesn't the ET blu include both theatrical and extended cuts? If Lucas announced tomorrow that the theatrical releases of the OT were in the works of course people would still find something to piss and moan about. That's just what we do. But a lot of the grumbling would go away.

Re: Cameron. Yeah, he is definitely the fair-haired boy these days. I'll give you that. But that's not the only reason he gets a pass. They said from the beginning that there would be multiple releases (and again, multiple releases are not in and of themselves bad things - giving consumers more options is generally better than giving them fewer) and they're not stringing them out over ridiculously long periods of time (the LotR extended release crowd has a more reasonable gripe here the longer they get strung along) . And he hasn't gotten a *totally* free pass. The 'grain removal' quotes a few weeks ago generated knee-jerk outrage as heated as anything directed at Lucas.

Re: Fanboys. I think you've got that backwards. Apparently the real fanboys are those who dare question or criticize anything Lucas says or does but yes, it is rather funny

What was wrong with the SE VHS release?

I had 3 sets, and didn't notice any problems at all.

I have watched THX on BD, and there are no problems at all (Oppo BDP-83SE), but I know what you mean. That has got NOTHING to do with George Lucas!

See, you just found another reason to find fault...

My review of this release is up already, had a chance to look at it while visiting Lucases workplace.

Movie - 5/5
This part doesnt need analyzes. The best known movie ever.

PQ - 2/5
This is the weakest part of the presentation.
Colours look unnatural, face colours are leaned towards blue spectrum.
The image has been heavily post-processed, which resulted in edge enhancment and loss of detail.
Overall, while its a step up from SDDVD, its not a very noticable one.

AQ - 3/5
It has TolbyTRUEHD.
This is an adequtate enough presentation, but it lacks some punch and depth.
Detail is minimal which is probably attriputible to the studio master itself rather than the transfer.

Extras - 5/5
Its pucked with over 10 hours of extras. Enough said.

Overall - 3.5/5
This movie has roots in every aspect of american life. Its the king of classic movies. While the movie is phenomenal, the quality of this release is borderline disastrous. There is no doubt there will be another re-release down the road.
Recommended for star Wars die hard fans, but others should stick to their good old DVD releases.

1. How did you get access to Lucasfilm's Blu-Rays a year before release?

2. Why do you assume that whatever you got is the final version when the release is a year away?

Hoorah. Nail on the head, P@t_Mtl. Can't seem to please fans, Mr. Lucas, so go crazy (er, not to crazy).

I don't mean to flame, just an opinion: I kinda think Greedo shooting first makes Han more of a bad ***. I mean, a blaster shoots near his head and he's all "Yep, cool". I hope Mr. Lucas gets the originals on Blu soon, but I say, in my own opinion, Han is a little more mercenary now for now being phased by a blaster by the head.

I said it before, Han and Greedo is the only scene I do agree should not have been change. I think changing this scene modify Han's character too much from what he really should be. I understand why he made the changes, he got kids and he sort of wanted to change the message that it's not right to shoot first but let's face it, Han is what he is and at that moment he would have shot first. Years later he would have change yes because of his releation with Leia but in that scene, no he would have had no problem wasting Greedo The main difference with me and a lot of other people, while I disagre with the change, I am not loosing sleep over it and opening Facebook pages about how Lucas raped my childhood.

Tolby is really good....way better than Dolby....though Golby is the best totally.
+ pucked with 10+ hours is way better than just packed with 10+ hours.

Well, I am sure that you are familiar that for a lot of the sound effects for the movies, Ben Burt combined several sounds to make one effect such as Chewies howl. However, when they released the SE-VHS versions, they messed up some of the effects by not combining those effects back together again as they were originally broadcast, such as when Leia is shooting stormtoopers in the chasm scene. Her blaster sounds like Dirty Harry's Magnum due to certain effects being left out by mistake. Also, during some of the TIE fighter attacks in the second half of the film, the same type of mistakes happened, and they sometimes sound like either Japanese Zeros or German Stukas(take your pick).

And lets not forget that gem where 'The Wilhelm Scream' was mistakenly inserted into Luke's dive off of that gantry in Cloud City to escape his very misunderstood father.

If you still have your VHS- SE tapes give them a shot, as these errors are real easy to pick out.

And like P@t mentioned above, when these BD's are released there will most likely be more *****in' about them("it is it is inevitable")...that is unless Lucas decides to take his time on these and do them correctly, unlike he previously did for his 'Works of Art'.

It wasn't a Wilhelm scream (and those are very distinct). It was just a scream that was originally recorded for Empire in 1980 and left out. It was put in for the 1997 SE, nobody liked it, and it was taken out again for the 2005 DVDs.

I have the 1997 SE LDs so comparisons are easy.
