Not a whole lot, really. Other than theatrical cuts there's not much left. Maybe a standalone BD or two porting over the DVD extras but I doubt something like that could even break even.

Just watched Star Warriors. I thought it was a lot of fun. Treated them like normal people who just happened to be passionate about Star Wars, as opposed to what Trekkies did.

The kid dying and his parents getting an action figure made of him made me sad. Then I come on here and learn about R2-KT and that made me even more sad.

Yeah, Star Warriors was great. I love how much the 501st do for charity at the same time as they celebrate their fandom.

The picture of the huge gathering of them from Celebration III is downright amazing as well. Since it shows more than just the Troopers.

I don't think that is the reason that another 3D Star Wars movie will not be made. I would think that it was because Lucasfilm is releasing one of the weakest movies of the series (if not the weakest).

They're releasing A New Hope first in 3-D? I thought they were starting with The Phantom Menace.

I noticed tonight that on Episode IV, the added Dewback scenes, Lucasfilm wasn't even smart enough to use the correct trooper costumes. They used ESB/ROTJ costumes instead of the original ANH SandTroopers.

I am sure most would not notice, but they stand out like a sore thumb when you know what to look for.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as the 501st before this documentary, let alone how widespread it was. That was pretty impressive for Lucasfilm to float the bill to bring all those people from around the world together for the parade.

As for the Stormtrooper armor thing, so what? Just assume these guys just got new armor uniforms.

Well, the Lion King has set the benchmark, I guess we'll see if a post-"new Star Wars"-hype TPM can measure up

Yeah. Lucas became aware of them during the global premiere for Revenge of the Sith.

He's been so impressed by their love of Star Wars and also what they do for Charity that they're now a part of the Official Canon of Star Wars. The Blue accented CloneTroopers that follow Vader into the Jedi Temple in RotS are officially known now as the 501st aka Vader's Fist.

I will re-phrase, "they are releasing the crappiest movie of the series, TPM in 3D first"....

How would you like it if JarJar all of a sudden had three ears for one scene in the movie? You might actually notice that mistake! That is the problem with Georgie boy, he doesn't even know how to fix his own movies.....

So they are not "Sand Troopers" they are dirty "Storm Troopers". Which sucks.

You're welcome to your opinion. But why should I feel bad? I consider it the best of the Saga. So I can't wait til the 3-D release.

I can't imagine that many Star Wars fans that were actually around in the OT era are at all looking forward to it. Here's how a typical conversation would go:

Guy 1: "Hey guys! Do you wanna go see Star Wars in 3D?"
Guy 2: "Sounds pretty cool, but the price seems a little high. Still, to see the Death Star trench scene in 3D would be awesome.
Guy 1: "Well, it's not that one. They're showing The Phantom Menace.
Guy 3: "So I'd be paying $12 to see Jar-Jar in 3D along with lil' Yippy-Skippy Anakin? How about no..."
Guy 1: "I thought you'd say that..." << laughter >>
Guy 2: << laughter >>
Guy 3: << laughter >>

Still, have fun with all the tweens at the matinee showing. You can chat up all the moms in station wagons picking up their kids afterwards, I guess.

Sony has nothing to do with Star Wars. So how would a surcharge on Sony 3D movies affect a 20th Century Fox-distributed movie without that surcharge?

Beast is probably one of 28.578 (accounting for midgets) die hard TPM supporters in the entire galaxy. I say let the man say whatever he feels and let it go in one ear and out of the other.

I thought this was the 'Star Wars on Blu-ray' thread. Shouldn't the 3D theatrical re-releases be discussed elsewhere?

TPM is being released first in 3D because if the OT were converted and released first, there might be a huge drop off in attendance for the PT afterward. Plus, in Lucas' preferred order TPM naturally comes first.

Doing the PT first keeps people enticed to see the movies in 3D so that George can afford to convert the other ones. Yet, you have McCallum admitting that they may not release anything after TPM because 3D is starting to fade. Honest observation or clever marketing? I say both.

Lucasfilm knows its audience.

McCallum never made that conclusion. Nor is it even implied.

"We’re doing 3D versions of all six films, one a year, starting in February of next year. We start with [episode] one and go all the way through six, totally chronological. One a year, if they work. If they don’t, then there will be just one [episode converted to 3D]." - Rick McCallum
