That's an issue with the effects and the source, not that it looks "too good." I would never think to dumb down the video just because it reveals poor effect work.

It was actually the last one I ended up watching as well. Even though it's far from my favorite.

Thats the price we pay for 1080p video and our high-grade TVs!

What will happen at some point is that effects will be tested and filmed against higher-res backgrounds or whatever it takes to be more seamless to the viewer. The older the film, the more likelihood of this happening. When they filmed it and viewed it themselves, it looked just fine..... on their LOW-res screens and all.

Does anyone else have something to say? No? Okay, then this thread is now CLOSED!

This is one of those scenarios "if two people were stuck on a deserted island and you can only talk about one topic," I think the topic of Star Wars would win. Two Star Wars fans can just talk endlessly about these films - it's amazing!

Finally got through with the entire set plus bonus materials. LOVE the collection stuff and concept art. Haven't got around to the bonus movie commentaries yet, but overall I am very impressed with the set. Well worth the money I paid.
The changes to Bespin are some of my favorite as well, and are an example of good upgrades to the movies

Yeah, I loved the new approach with the Falcon, and all the windows and such. Very well done, in my opinion.

As for other changes, I really like the matte lines being removed from the Hoth battles, and the Rancor in "Jedi". The musical sequence in Jabba's palace is still kinda pathetic, but on the whole, I can live with it. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Battle of Yavin on Blu (don't have the set yet).

Did anyone here think they sped up the lightsaber duel for episode IV a little? It seems a little faster to me.

Nope. I think that's simply your imagination.

Shocking? Really? Can you imagine Lucas thinking, "I love my fans so much I'm going to hide a neat little surprise that will have no effect on how many units sell just for them"?.... I sure can't.

Maybe if you put on the right disc, and select "scenes", then click "enter" really, really fast, and then tap your heels together three times, and say "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope", something cool will happen.

Ok,

So finally finished all 6 movies!
What a ride. I really like watching them in order (1-6) and ending with Jedi - quite awesome.

I'm fine with all the changes and even surprised (maybe disappointed) there weren't more (I know I'm in a small group who likes when Lucas changes these movies).

Glad I still enjoy these movies as much (maybe more) than I did as a kid and so glad my kids love them (though they like the PT much better).

I just loved the AQ - so many more things to hear and experience. And the VQ is no longer a distraction (though I wish Ep 1 had less DNR).

Can't wait for the 2018 version (upgrade)!

Ha, yeah good point. I wasn't suggesting they should dumb it down, I was commenting on how the blu-ray brought out many more details--and along with it, more flaws. It's interesting though, because thinking about, shouldn't those "flaws" have been noticed in theaters as well? With the higher resolution and all? Or does the size of the screen negate that? Hmm....

Most people only watch a given movie in a multiplex once. To see the visual flaws of a movie on the first viewing, the effects either have to be very badly done (enough to take your attention away from the movie itself) or else the movie has to be so bad that you've stopped paying full attention to the plot/dialogue and start noticing the visual flaws (which may be relatively normal in magnitude) instead.

If neither condition (terrible effects or terrible movie) is met, then the sensory overload (between the giant screen and theatrical surround sound) and paying attention to the plot/dialogue will combine to make analysis of the relative visual quality almost impossible.

For movies like Star Wars that many people have watched countless times, you can pay somewhat less attention during a viewing (because you know exactly what's supposed to be happening at any given point) and thus have enough mental processing capacity to notice and analyze the visual flaws while the movie's playing.

That's the danger of blu ray for you. It's easier to notice stunt doubles and other little things. It has yet to ruin the experience for me but it does get distracting sometimes.
