My reaction to the changes amounted to something like "Oh, that's interesting!", and nothing more. Never did I think that the entire SW community would explode into anger at the time.

As for the prequels. Yeah, they're flawed movies. TPM more than the others, but they're still enjoyable films IMO. I still love Revenge Of The Sith to this day.

As for the Blu-Rays, I cannot wait. I'm interested to see how they look in HD, along with what/if any alterations Lucas made to the Saga.

I would only say Lucas went to far if he ended up taking the original trilogy, and replaced all the puppets and minuatures with CGI.
11 people. I don't have it out for George Lucas. I hope he would release the original versions in equal quality, but I can't wait for the Blu set, as Star Wars is awesome. I don't buy the toys and books, but I watch The Clone Wars every week and I got the first season on Blu (excellent, by the way) and I plan to get season two soon too. Finally, earlier in the thread, I mentioned how I thought Greedo shooting first without Han breaking a sweat made him more of a bad&%#. Yeah, Mr. Lucas, it would be nice to have both versions of the OT (and PT, if changes are done to them), but you still got a fan in me.

Dude, are you really that oblivious or being intentionally obtuse for the lulz? Film is by nature capable of resolutions well beyond 1080, so Ridley didn't have to do anything with it.

I prefer Han shooting Greedo straight up. I know GL had said that he felt Han's character (by the end of the trilogy) simply wasn't that type of guy anymore... What about character DEVELOPMENT? The character obviously wasn't the same person as when the trilogy started. It's ridiculous to go back and make him monotone from the begining. Besides, the way they redid the scene with Greedo shooting first just never looked right to me.

That said, the only things that really bother me about the OT at this point is the fight between Obi-Wan & Vader in ANH. GL always used the excuse that it was a battle between an old man & half a man. Sorry, that doesn't hold up. Vader was much more spry battling Luke in ESB & RotJ. And we all see what an old Jedi is capable of with Christopher Lee's lightsaber duels in Clones & Sith. I'm hoping GL CGIs the Obi-Wan/Vader duel much moreso than replacing the Yoda puppet. The Ewoks can go though. The other thing that bothers me is that the OT feels more like a bunch of isolated sets rather than a living, breathing galaxy. The changes made to Bespin in the ESB SE helped, but it needs to be taken further to bring it on-par with the PT.

I have the 1997 SE LDs so comparisons are easy.
If you listen closely, it's actually Palpatine's scream as Anikan threw him over the banister in Return of The Jedi.

I really hope the original trilogy holds up in 1080p.

I would have to agree to an extent, but do you know how much s*** Lucas would get for that? And he gets bloody ripped apart now!!! All I see Lucas doing to the OT is continual f/x clean-up. From what I remember reading at the Bits back in 2004, ILM had continued working on the OT when the stopped work on the DVD's. I'm curious as to what's been done. I believe the OT has gone through another sound mix recently as well, at least that's how I took Matt Woods comments. I'm really not expecting much with the PT, other than the Yoda puppet being tossed.

And add another who doesn't have it out for Lucas.

Do you guys think Lucas will change things in the prequels for the 3D re-release? You know, to give even more incentive to see them?

This is one case I doubt he will. Outside of the 3D technology I can't see anything that can really be improved upon content-wise aside from completely re-making Episode I or removing Jar Jar Binks entirely from the prequels, which won't happen. No marginal changes are going to make Episode I a good film.

I think it would be nice to see Lucas release the extended DVD cut of The Phantom Menace, and give us extended cuts of EP II and III with some of the deleted scenes reinserted, like the rebellion subplot from Episode III.

Wasn't the extended cut of Phantom Menace just another half hour plus of that already drawn out, boring pod race?

The extended cut of TPM is hardly another half hour, it's probably about 5 minutes at most. It's mainly the Pod Race, but it also has some extra material added when they arrive on Coruscant.
