But, with all due respect, you're talking absolute crap. This is what really pisses me off about people complaining about George Lucas.

Okay, so there'll be a 2D and 3D version. But is that any different to what every other studio or film maker is doing who have 3D versions of films. And the 3D versions are going to be some years off. We only know a planned release date for TPM at the moment. So should GL be hanging back with SW just because he's planning to release a 3D version.

Get real!

The 3D version can effectively be considered a different format anyway.

This guy just can't get through a day without someone knocking him down for doing nothing more than what anyone else is doing.

But he is so evil, not like James Cameron who is so much nicer and is not milking Avatar with 4 different releases of it in 12 months

Just don't have a cellphone on James Cameron's set. He'll nailgun it to the wall.

Or Peter Jackson with multiple versions of Lord of the Rings.

The double-dipping is no big deal, everybody does that, the problem is the Star Wars releases involve years of waiting and lots of hype for something that ends up kind of mediocre or crappy, quality-wise. This blu-ray won't include the original versions, so it's already half-assed compared to Alien.

I once again applaud Lucas for not including the old cuts. They're subpar to the new ones.

As for mediocre or crappy, that really doesn't describe any of the Star Wars releases.

I doubt very much that the Blu-ray releases will be subpar...I have no doubt some will be screaming their displeasure about it but at the end of the day, they would complaint no matter what.

Would you buy them if they were made available?

So, to sum up, just because it isn't going to include EVERYTHING you want on it, you're going to jump up and down and stamp your feet like a petulant child and throw your dummy out of the pram?

If they were made available? Sure. Would I watch them? Not really.

I never watch the original cuts anymore. They're just not as good as the updated versions.

Oh dear, let's get back on topic and let's not be childish and drag this down into a personal fit of temper, just because you're not getting your own way with Lucas - now you seem to want to criticise me, for what, having a screen alias just like everyone else here does... well that's really mature.

Won't buy it unless they release the original cuts along with it. There's no accounting for taste I guess, but so many of the newer changes are absolutely cringe-worthy and are unwatchable. In my opinion you'd have to have a screw loose to prefer the newer versions.

The CGI is low-grade 90% of the time and looks like it's from a PS2 game.... shit like this typifies the "new" changes and is absolutely unwatchable:

Awful, just frggin' awful.

Also, stuff like Hayden Christensen being at the end of Jedi, wahahaha.

A Blade Runner esque package with this release would be friggin' awesome, with every cut everyone could possibly want. Doubt it'll happen though, Lucas doesn't seem as accommodating to his fans as Scott is.

You know, it's people like Stinky Winky above that really makes me avoid Star Wars / Lucas threads. Not only are you an absolute cretin the way you criticise Lucas, but you also have the bad manners to insult anyone who prefers his later versions of the film. Just because you've got appallingly bad taste, it doesn't mean that everyone else has.

And I don't know how you can think the original 'Lapti' Nek' was better than this. An immobile puppet with lips on a piece of string? Come on, give me a break!

I think people really, seriously need to look at the originals in the cold harsh light of day, because there are reasons why much of this stuff was replaced.

As far as Hayden being put in Jedi as the spirit. I think that's probably the most contentious of the changes - it actually fits a lot more easily alongside the novelisation of Revenge of the Sith. Something that was lost in the movie, but in the novel, at the end where Sidious goes to save Darth Vader, he kneels down beside him and places his hand on his forehead, and says, 'Live, Lord Vader.'

So, 'from a certain point of view', Anakin actually did die at the end of the lightsabre battle with Obi-Wan, and was brought back to life by Sidious, (who obviously had found a way to stop people dying). So when Anakin's Force spirit comes into being, he's restored to his original form when he died.

And why should Lucas be accommodating to his fans, just because he won't bend over and take whatever you want to give him, you all end up throwing temper tantrums and reverting back to your 6 or 7 year old selves when you first saw the movie.

Have fun with the non-anamorphic DVDs, or Laserdiscs then, or why don't you just watch those superior VHS editions, 'cause the later ones had Episode IV instead of just SW if I remember correctly!

Seriously, dude, get a friggin' life! I prefer the new versions by far, and maybe you should get your eyes checked, because while they sure don't hold up to the latest and greatest CGI out there (they were creating those in the mid 90s for crying out loud), they still look a lot better than the original cuts, with matte lines, warts and all.

Anyway, do what make you happy, but don't look down on those who prefer the better versions.

And when Lucas releases them on Blu, I will watch them in this "cold, harsh light of day" you speak of.

Coming from the biggest fanboy on here that's not surprising.
