I agree. Aliens is an example of DNR done right, in my opinion. Not a trace of any waxy figures like TPM, yet the image is still "cleaned up" to reveal an image that I think looks better than even its theatrical run.

With TPM, DNR occasionally borders on Predator UHE, which is not a compliment, to say the least.

I watched "Phantom Menace" with the archival commentary last night, and it was so boring. I like the film itself, but it seemed like Ben Burtt, Rick McCallum, and Lucas dominated the whole thing. The most prevalent cast member was Ewan McGregor. Jake Lloyd only popped up a few times, Liam Neeson less, and Natalie Portman's comments didn't even start until after the podrace. I was expecting so much more.

Wasn't this the same commentary that was on the DVD?

Well, I'll listen to it eventually. I can't stand McCallum so I'll listen to it when I am extremely bored.

Yeah, Samuel L. Jackson only spoke once, and several other cast members (Frank Oz, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Hugh Quarshie, Keira Knightley) weren't even included. I really hope the other archive commentaries turn out better.

"Top marks on clarity"? Wtf does that even mean? It lacks fine detail, yet it's "clear"?

Show me one "reference quality shot" in the whole 2 hour plus runtime. Good luck with that.

It is only marginally better than those titles. In fact, The Big Lebowski looks better than it.
There are quite a few reference shots in TPM, such as those that feature the two headed podrace announcers, one wide shot of the crowd during the podrace, a shot where the woman in white is overlooking the canyon during the podrace, Jack Loyd talking to Padme when he gives her the souvenir, and lot of others, including many CGI scenes. Those are mind-blowing!

Problem is that overall detail has been DNrd away, particularly in faces, although it's not THAT bad.

I would love to see it in a filmic edition such as the remastered Gladtiator, but truth be told it still looks a billion times better than the nasty DVD, so I guess we can enjoy it for a while.

There's a lot of beautiful shots in TPM. The close ups of the Droid Control Ship (around 18:30ish) looks like I can touch it. Then there are some bad ones. When Qui Gon sends Anakin's blood for a midichlorian count, he looks like he's CG.

Also, something else I've been meaning bring up, has anyone had the word English flash across their screen at the final seconds of the credits? My BD player is a PS3. It appears as a subtitle, no other movies do it...only the SW flicks.

Weird.

Weird.
It happens on both my players as well. I have an LG for the bedroom and a Panasonic for the living room.

I have been meaning to ask this for a while now:

Does anyone else have a flashing starfield after the opening crawl of ROTS???

It's the only one that suffers from this artifact, and it's such a pity.

Not sure what what you mean by flashing starfield. I just checked my RotS and after the crawl nothing flashes. I did notice that the starfield is made up of foreground and background stars and the stars in the background twinkle a little bit.

Yeah, I guess it's the twinkling stars. To me it's quite distracting, though it only last for a few seconds.

In the theatre, TPM had things like detail, film grain; on blu-ray, it does not.

And I must respectfully disagree with the other fellow who believes it's a million times better than a lot of other blus. Or, if it is, I don't own them/haven't seen them.
to each their own...

hahah, I always thought that Anakin was acting kind of creepy at the beginning of AOTC, Well he just seemed off the entire movie, as well as in ROTS, and Im not saying it was because of bad acting, maybe that was the point, to make you feel uneasy around him. makes sense to me, I kind of found the fact that he was so much younger then Padme creepy too.

I was just surfing the web and came upon these gems! Figured you guys would get a kick outta 'em. "Zombie wars: Episode II- Attack of the Undead" is my favorite! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Oh, and on topic, enjoying the crap outta my BDs. Got a kick outta the "Making of Star Wars" vid. I remember getting a VHS of it in the mail from some cereal that was giving it away. Actully fooled me into thinking Threepio was an actual robot when I saw him fall over all stiff in the desert!

Not after, but I have a disco-flashing starfield during the RotS crawl I have the region B version.
