So speaking of Star Wars is anyone going to the Star Wars Celebration VI convention in August of this year? I can't wait. This is the second straight Celebration convention being held right my my neck of the woods in Orlando, Fl. I went to Celebration V in 2010 and it was amazing. Best convention I've ever been to by far. Literally enough to do there for a whole weekend. I met people who not only came across the country to attend but many from other countries.

Used? That sounds like a pretty good return for a used DVD set.

Yeah it's the copy I bought when it was released in 2004. The trick to eBay is to start low at .99. The bidders think they have a bargain and will snipe the price up

Did you burn a copy of the bonus disc with "Empire of Dreams" to keep for yourself, or are you "one and done" when it comes to special features? I kept my '04 set specifically for that disc. That and because they're different versions of the films. I know those two factors aren't important to everyone though.

Thanks for the tip. I guess I'll keep a burned copy of the disc. Also didn't like the changes involved with the DVD versions.

Has been discussed whether the 3D theatrical release of "Phantom Menace" will have the same awful amount of DNR applied to it as the Blu-Ray does? I really can't imagine that version being released in cinemas... on the other hand, I couldn´t have imagined that this DNRed version is being released on BD.

It's really strange... Episode 1 never looked better and never looked worse at the same time.

Yeah it's quite ironic how they made the effort to get rid of the pink tint, EE and loss of screen information (the 8% that was restored for the Blu Ray) of the DVD version, and then threw a warm blanket of DNR over the film (in varying amounts).

It is the most improved but still the worst film in terms of PQ. Also curious for the 3D presentation, whether it still has the DNR applied or not.

You know, if they already took the left turn and went the 3D route, why not simply do the original Star Wars?

They're releasing them in order. Phantom Menace first, and if it's successful the others will follow.

The panel at Comic-Con mentioned that the grain with Dial M For Murder was causing a lot of problems creating the 3D version so I wonder if that's the reason why The Phantom Menace has been so heavily DNR'd?

My question is, what would be the so-called timeline, if TPM 3D is successful? one year between films? 2 or 3...?

Yes, that was the original plan -- so if it does well (we all know it will), we can expect Attack of the Clones next Februaryish.

Thanks for the info... if you are right, it is very likely the other five Episodes will be treated with the same amount of DNR as Phantom Menace was.

DNR is the least of the problems. I saw a trailer in 3D when I went to see Hugo and this really looked bad, as did the trailer for Titanic. They really shouldn't bother because in the end, it's just going to turn more people off to 3D. On the other hand, the 3D in Hugo was really spectacular - the best I've seen so far.

I'm no fan of DNR or grain elimination (not that Ep I had any grain since it was digitally shot), but the Blu-ray of Ep I looked like the intention and how I remembered seeing it theatrically. I wasn't really bothered by the DNR. Are you sure you're not simply reacting to the fact that it was shot digitally?

It wasn't shot digitally(at least not entirely.) It was shot on a mix of anamorphic 35mm film, VistaVision and digital.

I notice that Dial M for Murder is a movie from 1954, shouldn't the grain be heavier on that title than it originally was than TPM? As TPM had a quite fine grain structure. Otherwise this would mean that grain on any movie would be removed for it's 3D release.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. It could go either way.

I love George Lucas! You will sorely missed by your loyal fans:

http://www10.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/...er=rss&emc=rss

In the last decade and a half, Lucas has given “Star Wars” several “final” cuts. For the 1997 special edition, he made Greedo, a green-skinned alien, fire his blaster at Han Solo because Han’s murdering Greedo in cold blood — as the 1977 version had it — struck him as a violation of his own naďve style. For the new Blu-ray version of “Return of the Jedi,” Lucas added Darth Vader shouting, “Nooo!” as he seizes the evil emperor in the movie’s climactic scene. Lucas made the Ewoks blink. And so forth.

When fanboys wailed, Lucas did not just hear the scream of young Jedis; he heard something like the voice of the studio. The dumb, uncomprehending voice in his Socratic dialogues — a voice telling him how to make a blockbuster. “On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie,” Lucas says, referring to fans who, like the dreaded studios, have done their own forcible re-edits. “I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.’ ”

I couldn't agree more with him!

I can't wait to see his art house movies, at least on Blu-ray!

George Lucas forever!!!!!!!!!!!!
