Man...so many miscast characters in the PTs.

Can you just imagine if they had expanded Dooku's role and gave it to Bill Nighy instead?! (And change that goofy name too)

I get goosbumps just thinking about THAT!

Sir Christopher Lee was awesome as Darth Tyranus I thought, especially since he brought that air of properness and propriety to the role, something only hinted at by Lord Sidious.

It isn't like Empire where we get a whole new sequence to throw off the pacing of the film. These two changes are just fliping the shot order. No biggie.
I was just curious if anyone noticed. Inconsequential as it may be I do wonder what was the point in changing the sequence.

Seriously - in 2015 will we really see a crappy incorrect blue/green/white 3D saber held by Luke on the falcon?

Probably because Lucas felt it made for better pacing of each sequence, which may or may not really work. The fact that hardly anyone noticed basically means the scenes work both ways, so its really probably just a personal thing with the Director/Editor. I thnk we have all given up trying to figure out why Lucas does what he does...lol

True. ^^

The latest round of tweaks and additions were the oddest yet though.

There are some good emotional points in that film-- I absolutely love that silent moment before Anakin rushes off to help Palpatine deal with Mace Windu. I also agree there was some depth going on after the Anakin/Obi Wan fight was over, although I thought the final sequence of events closing the movie was too rushed.

But the actual discovery of Anakin being evil, IMO, was completely devoid of the impact and emotion it should have had, from Obi Wan and Yoda's discovery of the footage of Anakin killing the "younglings," right down to the beginning of the fight where Obi Wan lectures Anakin on his lust for power and says "I will do what I must." It all just felt sterile, and I think that reflects the tone of the entire trilogy for the most part. And don't get me started on the moment of Anakin's actual turn into Darth Vader, where on the turn of a dime he goes from reluctantly and regrettably aiding in the murder of Mace to being an all-out mass murderer of children.

Only if you believe that evil people are born evil and don't become evil over time. I think there are a lot of very evil people in the world who were cute kids. Besides, if Anakin was always evil, it wouldn't be very interesting because there would be no journey. It's his transition from being the "chosen one" to Darth Vader that's interesting and IMO, the reason for the story. One of the first rules of screenplay writing is that you have to show how events have changed characters.

Personally, I don't have any problem with Anakin as a child saying "Yipee". My problem is that I don't think it was demonstrated effectively why he turned to the dark side. His need to control events so that people he loved wouldn't die is not enough of an explanation of how he turned from a sweet, loving child to an egotistical and impatient young adult, so as per my earlier post, I think Lucas should have spent less time on his childhood and more time on the years that we didn't see, presumably the time when his outlook began to change.

I agree with this, in part. The portrayal of young imp anakin, as well as Jar-Jar's antics, probably wouldn't stand out as much if the story arc and character development were better.

There are many writers and directors who have taken characters on this journey successfully (in one film, let alone three). But the most disappointing aspect of the prequels (for me) is that we need look no further than Lucas himself for stallar examples of this. We didn't need to see Luke as a "youngling" to watch his growth; we tuned in when he was nineteen, and we saw him wide-eyed and innocent, restless and eager, jaded and betrayed, and finally triumphant and resolved.

Similarly, at the cusp of Vader's turn at the end of Jedi, we as an audience could feel his torment and indecision, because we had a character foundation upon which to build our impression of him: evil incarnate in SW, fallen jedi in ESB, and final return and redemption in ROTJ.

Nope.

He should have been cast as Jengo Fett instead.

Now how cool would that have been?

As horrible as the changes Lucas has made over the years, I'm in the camp that he can do whatever he wants with his movies...but make the original versions that got him to this point available as well.

I've held off this set so far, but I probably would have bought it by now...but those "No's" by Vader in RotJ are just terrible and really hurt that scene badly.

I haven't watched these in a few years now and I'm dying to see them on Blu-ray, so I may cave eventually.

Jackson's acting was terrible in these....extremely wooden and unnatural...but not surprising with such a bad director. Compare that with what Tarantino was able to get out of Jackson.

Count Dooku definitely should've been fleshed out more. We didn't even see him until the END of Ep 2! There were just too many villains in such a short time. Darth Maul was cool, but they killed him off. I suppose they could've shown Palpatine grooming Dooku to be his back-up. But it was like these characters came out of nowhere. In Ep 3 General Grievous is so important and yet it's the first we had seen/heard of him! Also, I still don't like how they cut out the whole Syfo-Dias subplot.

I agree with you, but the way I look at it is that the script and direction were so awful that they took talented, accomplished actors such as Portman and Jackson and made them quite awful. Even Christensen has some nice performances (Shattered Glass, Life as a House) that enlighten how little with which he had to work ('rough sand').

McGregor tried nobly to save the performances in the movies, but not even Brando could have accomplished that.

I just finished watching A New Hope on bluray, and all I can say is WOW!!! It was great! This is the best I've ever seen the movie look and sound. On a technical note I don't think the bit rate dropped once below 30 and that is awesome. Well I'm gonna watch ESB.

All 6 movies are great on Blu-ray. Don't know how anyone could complain about them unless they are watching them on a tube TV
