Surprisingly I'm warming up to the changes. I still want the UOT on blu-ray someday, but the new changes aren't bothering me like they did when I watched them on YouTube. I think in the context of the movie and with the childlike wonder I'm feeling at the moment I'm just not getting wound up over those changes.

John Williams score sounds fantastic on bluray!

I noticed a change I think that no one may have noticed. When Han goes outside in the cave in ESB he tells Liea "I just got this bucket back together. I'm not gonna let something tear it apart." I thought he said 'bucket of bolts' on the DVD? Am I wrong about this?

Edit: I checked the DVD and Han says the same thing. No change.

Interesting.... that really would be something if you'd spotted a change nobody else has picked up on in 4mths...

Do you not have the DVD's to compare to?

I checked and it hasn't changed. Han says the same thing on the DVD.

Just finished ESB. Best its ever looked and sounded! No problems with it at all. Now to complete this adventure with ROTJ.

Finally caved and got this set, and it was delivered Tuesday afternoon. So far, I've watched A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Both look pretty damn awesome. Sure, there is the occasional matte box, and some of changes are less-than-desired, but I'm still more or less impressed with the quality of the first two(as far as real-life chronology goes), and if it's to be somewhat standard across all six films, then I am more than content with my purchase, for the time being.

I finished watching ROTJ. Audio and video were good. The movie itself is a disappointment for me when compared to ANH and ESB. I just dont enjoy this movie. Its really hard for me to accept that storm troopers could be bested by teddy bears and rocks. That armor can take more than that. Then there is the first 30 minutes with jabba that just drags for me. The cinematography is a step down also with the lighting being less dynamic. I wish George could have used wookies instead of ewoks like he originally wanted to.
Now that would have been epic and a believable advisary to fight the troopers. Replace the ewoks with wookies and tighten up the Jabba section of the movie and I would probably like this movie much more.

One other caveatte, as in the early script I wish they could have shown the rebels attacking the capital planet of the empire. It was a more believable attack against the empire. ROTJ had some budgetary problems that greatly changed the film from script to film so for that reason i can't hate this film. All the great ideas were there but they just werent practical or feasable. Its not an awful film. Its just not one I particularly enjoy. It tends to bore me.

I don't even mind the second death star. It makes sense the empire would build more than one. Also while some people complain that it has the same weakness as the first. That seems to be only because it is incomplete. Had it been completed the weakness would have probably not been there.

My ratings for the trilogy on blu-ray

ANH
VIDEO: 5/5
AUDIO: 5/5
FILM: 5/5

ESB
VIDEO: 5/5
AUDIO: 5/5
FILM: 5/5

ROTJ
VIDEO: 4.5/5
AUDIO: 5/5
FILM: 3/5

ROTJ is definitely the weakest of the OT. Its great in the middle, and I enjoy the space battle with Lando, Wedge and the rest of the gang. Im even OK with the Endor moon sequence until the dreaded teddy bears show up. Its just chintzy. No way they beat them with rocks and ropes. I know the good guys have to win and this happens in lots of other movies, but at least make it more plausible. If the Ewoks were meaner and bigger it would have made more sense. If they would have really used stealth/guerilla tactics and the movie explored this I would have been OK. But they dont, they just scream like little girls and defeat an armored infantry crew that they are outnumbered by. meh.

The Jabba thing does drag a bit too. I agree. Thats probably somewhat of an artifact of seeing it so many times though.

And, heres a plot/logic issue: The Empire should have probably known that Luke would try and rescue Han and they knew that Han was with Jabba. So, maybe they could have told Jabba "Hey, if you happen to see or hear from Luke, can you give us a call or text us." Its like....wouldnt they have done that? They could ave paid him BIG or just blew his little barge up if he didnt cooperate. Unless the Hutts and the Empire have a good working relationship that we dont see.

Otherwise, I love the ending with the three Jedi apparitions standing there. Its a hugely emotional scene and a fantastic way to wrap it up.

Thinking about it, it is odd how rocks and bows kill Stormtroopers, when their armor is strong enough to survive their impacts. Even rocks should at the most only disorient the Stormtrooper for a while. Luckily the Ewoks also used weapons which were realistic in that they could actually destroy a AT ST.

Still, the movie still has enough to enjoy it. Every Death Star scene is great to watch.

Oh sure - some of the logic gaps aside.... ROTJ is still better than 95% of whats ever been made as far as Im concerned.

The Emperor himself knew that Luke would eventually seek out Vader. So they were just playing the waiting game.

For quite some time now, and I may get flamed for this, I've felt that a "change" that needed to be made to ROTJ was to include CGI Ewoks and Stormtroopers for just 1 or 2 shots. 1) To show how incredibly outnumbered the Stormtroopers are - this would help give credibility that the Stormtroopers could be over-powered and 2) to show that Ewoks actually have the strength of chimpanzees which would also easily help explain just how devastating their attacks are on any given Stormtrooper.

I pretty much agree with you, though TPM could have looked better without the DNR. ROTJ's faults are most likely in the source material, so there is nothing that can be done (referring to the soft parts on Endor.)

If they had fixed all the lightsaber inconsistencies in the OT, and the boxes around some of the starships, it would have been close to perfect.

I am happy with it! That's a given! Glad you enjoy them too.

Now that is change I can believe in.

For all its ridiculousness, the entire Battle of Endor is buoyed by John Williams' masterful score. I still get chills when the Ewoks pop up from the bushes.

Great idea - showing the numbers being in heavy favor of the Ewoks along with my thinking to show better/more guerilla tactics would have raised the bar quite a bit here. As it is, its just cartoony and unbelievable.

Nice!

It would have been much better if Death Star II was being built above Kashyyk. We could've gotten a pretty sweet battle. After all, Wookies are known to pull people's arms off when they lose...

Leia is the one who says "bucket of bolts"

That was the original intention but it was pointed out that Wookies are relatively technologically sophisticated and the whole theme of a backwards society taking down the state of the art Empire (Vietnam parallel) would be lost.
