Not really. Maul and Vader's roles pretty much echo each other in TPM and ANH. ANH, where Vader is Tarkin's biotch.

It's one of Lucas' tone poems. Repeating themes between the films. This is just one of many.

Vader doesn't get any serious character development until ESB. His ANH popularity is mostly due to his cool look.

Much like how Boba Fett became super popular for no reason in ESB, just because he was cool looking and mysterious.

poppycock. Vader is UNQUESTIONABLY a character of substance from jump, not just because of his imposing look. We know Vader is someone not to be trifled with, from his reckless use of the Force (casually force-choking subordinates) to his cruel disposition (murdering Rebels with his bare hands), not to mention he is established by Obi-Wan as the man who killed Luke's father very early in the film. What the hell does Maul do besides stay silent and look cool? He kills Qui-Gon at the end. YAWN. That's it. That's his purpose.

if you want to believe TPM is the best of the trilogy, fine, whatever. But now you're just sounding really silly with comments like that.

Anyone that debates the prequels actually being good or being real films in here should be banned. The prequels should be talked about in the "Gaming" section of blu-ray.com!

That's not a charcter though. The same can be said of Maul, as we see him do things also.

Vader has no actual character development until ESB. He's basically the Maul of ANH.

These guys are so freaking slow these blu rays should have been out a year ago and they should be bringing out the 3d versions soon . I wonder how many sales they will loose because i am not buying a 2d blu now i will wait for the 3d . And that goes for any older movies also .

I completely disagree, Beast. MCT makes excellent points on this.

While Vader may have been taking command from Tarken, he was hardly just some "biotch". He was established as a major threat from the get-go, and continues to be consistently thoughout the movie. While we don't know much about him specifically outside of him being part of the Empire and what Obi Wan tells Luke, so much is revealed about him (at least who he is/was at that time) while telling us so little.

We really don't see Maul do all that much (what are these "things" he does that you refer to?). He says VERY little in the movie. We see him once or twice just off in the distance or walking next to the holographic projection of Sidious. The only scenes where he "does" anything is when he has that brief lightsaber battle with Qui Gon on Tatooine, and then when he has the bigger lightsaber battle at the end with Qui Gon and Obi Wan.

It's one thing for you to prefer TPM over ANH, but come on, you are really grasping at straws with this arguement.

It does take time to prepare these things, you know....

You don't flip a switch and magically create the discs with all of the extras from thin air.

And I doubt that anyone wants to wait til 2017 for Jedi 3-D to come and pass for SW on Blu-Ray.

I am glad he's not rushing things. That means they'll be done right. Rushing 3-D conversion especially is foolish.

I know it takes time but you make it sound like there is 1 guy doing it out of his basement lol . I am sure if he wanted to he could put out 1 each year .

Lucas doesn't like to rush things. Why do you think it took 6 years into DVD's lifespan to get Star Wars.

Frankly? We're damn lucky to be getting the Blu-Rays this soon in the format's lifespan.

And that's the plan. 3D TPM in 2012. AotC in 2013. RotS in 2014. ANH in 2015. ESB in 2016. And RotJ in 2017.

I don't think the DVD delay was about rushing, per se, but I think it'd be more accurate to say that Lucas just wants to do it personally. While he was working on prequels, he didn't have the time to work on supervising the DVD transfers and he didn't want to delegate it. His movies are obviously very important to him and he won't relinquish personal control to anyone, for any reason.

Since I see no rush to get a 3D TV, I agree with you. Now maybe in the future... possibly.

But I'm not chomping at the bit to go buy one right now.

Yeah, think I'm with you. The only way I could see getting the 3D versions if if they reedit deleted scenes back in, etc.

I bought the first DVD set and never bought the others. TPM really suffers on DVD compared to the other 5 and is bad need of a remaster, so I would want that one ASAP anyway.

Excellent posting!

I'm hoping for a Digibook for each film. After Fox's Rocky Horror Digibook, I would love to see it for SW.

There is no doubt that at one point in the future my TV will be 3D since very likely they will like that very soon and the regualr type just wont be available any longer. As long as I still get 2D watching on it then I am ok, I am really not that interested in 3D
