It is a huge upgrade over the DVD but to keep my point "Star Wars", compare the picture from Ep1 to that of Ep3 and you will notice a vast difference in quality, clarity and sharpness.

Has anyone found this easter egg? Not sure what they're referring to by "options"

Speaking of Star Wars, who knew Yoda was into hip-hop? Watch the lean green dancing machine get his groove on by unlocking a hilarious clip of Yoda bustin' some moves with a posse of stormtroopers behind him. To access it, enter the Options area from the main menu, and then use the DVD remote to press numbers "11" (or "10+, 1," depending on your DVD player), followed by "3" and then "8," to launch the secret music clip. "1138," by the way, refers to George Lucas' first feature film, THX 1138

However, most of the Ewoks weapons were rendered ineffective against the Imperial on Endor on the front lines (the AT-STs did a very good job against the catapolts, gliders and other forces devices). The Ewoks gets their butts handed to them for the first half of that battle, until they lead the Imperials deeper into the forest where they had traps set up. Which is key to remember when making the anology of the Vietnam war. On the front lines US and Allied forces did well, but when they traveled deeper into enemy territory, home field played a big role in stalling their efforts. Much like the battle of Endor.

Regardles, the entire Battle of Endor is one of the greatest action sequences ever put to film (Ewok battle, Death Star attack and Luke's confrontation with Vader) and was a very satisfying ending imo. Lucas FINALLY had his chance to make a battle with an army of wookies, but it is rather underwhe//mingly short in ROTS.[/QUOTE]

You hit the nail on the head here, I couldn't have said it any better

Nothing that drastic but recently was able to watch Ep. IV and any time I paused and came back, I'd get the chapter bar at the bottom at the end of that particular chapter. Pretty annoying.

So I watched Episodes 4 and 5 this weekend and my reactions were mixed.

AQ for both discs was a massive improvemet over DVD, I heard parts of the score I have never heard before, the rear channels were used beautifully and it really added to the experience. Best discs for Audio since TPM (in this set)

As for PQ, well I thought Ep4 looked nice, great in parts, but never more than a 4 (with the exception of bits of the battle of Yavin and one shot of a Jawa transporter). Otherwise I thought it floated around a 3.5/4 out of 5 for most of the movie. I think it must have got extra half marks from reviewers when it was released due to hype and their excitement at seeing the upgrade over DVD.

As for Ep5, the PQ for me was a solid 4 but never reached 5. It was a lovely upgrade over DVD (more than I had previously given it credit for) but again, compared to other films of a similar age, I really didn't think the transfer was all that stellar (pun intended).

Summing up, I was very pleased but certainly not delighted. Impressed but never wowed. For a release this big, this anticipated and this closely scrutinised I thought it was a B+. Good but not great.

And that in itself leaves me a little sad.

Addendum: I thought the Obi-wan scream in Ep4 was amusing but not detracting and R2 hiding behind the disappearing rocks was silly and unnecessary but again didn't detract. And was it me or were there even more characters roaming about in Mos Eisley? (yes I'm sure it was me)

Finally the extras - I only watched the deleted scenes from 4, 5 and 6 - I was definitely underwhelmed. Surely there could have been more?

Yup, this release was rushed more than anything. There's bound to be a better one down the road!

I dont think so - the OT looks fantastic, better than they ever have or will. I'l admit that EP1 isnt reference material but its still good. EP2 and EP3 are excellent presentations.

I dont get what you mean by rushed since we waited for several years for these to come out on blu-ray.

I think in the sense of, even though it's been years before this release finally came out, how much of that time was actually spent on working on the PQ/AQ, and not waiting on the right time to release, or gather bonus material, etc. For example, using the 2004 masters instead of taking time & money for all new transfers.

Yeah, thats a good point. I still dont see though how much better the OT can look. What are they gonna do? The PT could be tweaked a bit here and there...I dunno.... I wont be buying this again no matter what anyways. Im content with what I have.

I think the originals look pretty good (but, not great). I'm sure with new 4K masters they would look better, but not sure if that will ever happen. With episode 4, sometimes the face tones look sort of weird....they take on a reddish-orange look in some scenes (and my display is ISF'd) with Luke and Han.

The OT looks great in terms of fine detail, but the colour is still waaaaay overdone and the floating Lowry grain pisses me off. To say that they could never look better is short-sighted foolishness. Doing new transfers and not recycling masters from 2004 would be a start.

what's the point in posting something like that? He's entitled to his opinion without getting shot down by outraged zealots

The OT look fine. Not great, just fine. There are other much better transfers of films holiding less public interest from the same time period.

The Blu set is ok, but not great by any stretch of the imagination. Why do people treat similar opinions as heresey?
