The OT look fine. Not great, just fine. There are other much better transfers of films holiding less public interest from the same time period.

The Blu set is ok, but not great by any stretch of the imagination. Why do people treat similar opinions as heresey?
Some take any criticisim of this set a little too seriously by letting their bias that this is 'fn STAR WARS!' get in the way of being objective. Honestly, I completely agree with you. Its a fine set, not great, but fine. There were MUCH better releases last year. In comparison to the likes of the Citizen Kane, Ben Hur, Social Network, or Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows 1 & 2 this set falls short. But it is a fine set and I am pleased to own it, but it could have really been amazing.

Meh. Why be amazing for the first release, when there'll undoubtedly be more editions in a few years? LFL vomited up a half-assed Laserdisc transfer of the OT just to get folks to buy the SE DVDs again, and we may yet get something along those lines for the standalone Blu-rays, or indeed the 3D Blu-rays.

They sure do beat my VHS, LaserDisc and DVD copies when it comes to picture quality. Sure the colors, changes and edits may be different. But this is the best (overall) the films have looked and sounded in a long time.

We'll probably get another 'release' of these later on. Here's hoping for an original version but, who knows. At this point I'm thankful for my original LD/DVD set. Plus since the BD set doesn't have all the extras from previous versions I'll be hanging onto them for the time being. Now if they can just run that print of the film through a bit of cleaning and slap it on a BD Lucasfilm can have even more of my money.

The question really is, will Lucas spending the money to do new 4K transfers of the originals? I doubt it. Word is the existing masters will be used for 3D.

Agreed, even with the flaws and at times weird skin tones, these look decent. However, new 4K transfers would have been very nice.

My hope/prediction is that a little while after the 3d releases are through (7-8 years from now) there will be another box set.

That set will contain the OT with a solid transfer.

It will also contain the latest 3d/2d versions of the films. For us SE fans I'm hoping that means any nagging color issues, saber issues, matte box issues, whatever will have long since been corrected. Converting the movies to 3D FORCES LFL to be consistent with their work.

Who knows...maybe I'm dreaming. lol

I would, too.

I found it amazing that they put mediocre effort in what was supposed to be the "crown jewel" of blu-ray releases.

If you are asking this Lucus guy to release the OT you will be waiting a long time, I don't know who he is but this Lucus guy as nothing to do with Star Wars

From a certain point of view, many would say that the George Lucas that made the OT doesn't have anything to do with Star Wars anymore either.

Oh man - you just opened the door to have your thread completely crapped on by people who haven't complained enough about Jar Jar in the last 13 years.

Avoiding that thread - I don't need to see more of that.

lol

Still loving this BD set by the way. I read a few posts above someone said this is "obviously rushed". Sometimes I literally can't believe what I'm reading when it comes to Star Wars fans.

It could be better IMO, but at the same time, I'll take it over DVD any day of the week and I'm pleased enough with how it turned out. It's no Taxi Driver but it was never going to be

Hah! I just got back from seeing TPM 3D and they've used the same DNR'ed 2K master as the Blu-ray, complete with noticeable edge ringing, and the bits completed for the 2001 DVD are soft as HELL - they were iffy on the Blu-ray but look like utter shite on the big screen. Lucasfilm won't spend a dime more than is necessary on Star Wars, and I can't wait to see the 3D garbage mattes on the ships in Jedi's end battle come 2017.

Still, the 3D is incredibly inoffensive, so no complaints about the actual conversion. Most of the time it looks 2D, I shit you not.

Rick Mccallum did say that the way they looked on blu-ray is the way they will look for the 3d theatrical releases.
