Quick, someone call the Army and let's get this guy!
If Lucas and Fox had stayed away from the DNR knob it would have been fine.

Except that the film is so processed and digitized that is it really DNR?

It's also awfully inconsistent if they just wanted to degrain everything. There's plenty of facial and fine detail throughout.

That sucks. The Phantom Menace trailer always takes me back to the swell of anticipation surrounding its release. That one used to give me chills, especially with that music cue at the end. Awesome. Not including those is a major oversight on Lucas and cos part.

Glad to see Bay did it and it worked.
I was worried about this as well, but the brightness seemed fine to me.

I took the glasses off and I would not have enjoyed watching the film that way, they (either the theatre or Lucasfilms) had definitely compensated for the brightness. With the glasses on, it looked fine.

Case in point, without glasses, the Naboo sky looked white/very pale blue, with glasses on it was darker blue and you could make the clouds out.

You mean the teaser trailer or the theatrical trailer? I liked both of them, and also would have liked to see them included. However, since the old Yoda is in them, I guess that would mean recutting them so as to include the new Yoda. Maybe that's why they haven't been included?

Probably similar to why they did not include the SE trailers, either(which I would have liked to see.) They did not want to remind people of the '97 Jabba.

I love both as well. Episode 2 had awesome trailers too. They wouldn't have to cut them again just because the old Yoda puppet is in there. That's part of the nostalgia. Heck, the thing looked better in short bursts in the trailers than it did in full in the film itself. Oh well, I'll have to hold onto the second discs of the DVDs.

Amazon.co.uk have a place-holder up for Episode I: The Phantom menace 3D. I think these are quite neat as well, were they standard at the 3D screenings?

Not that I'm aware of. I think some theaters had "Anakin" glasses for the kids, but I'm not 100% sure. One of the ones I went to had the "Darth Maul" type of glasses. But I never saw any of the Anakin ones.

Yeah, those are the ones. I think only AMC Theaters got them (at least in the U.S., not sure if they were available in any other countries).

Watching Empire right now for the 5th time on Blu. Seems that this movie is alot brighter then the other ones. I found myself turning my brightness down to less then 50% Maybe its just me.

I have little to no interest in 3D and I still can't stand large chunks of TPM (including the pod race) but I gotta admit, those goggles are pretty freaking cool.

Still watching Empire and i noticed when Lukes in Dagobah and yelling hes wasting his time here, and Yoda said impossible to train him and you hear Obi Wan say,was i any different when you trained me. In the prequels i thought Qui-Gon Jinn was the one that trained Obi Wain, not Yoda.

Yes, Obi-Wan was Qui-Gon's padawan once he was older. But as a youngling, he'd have been trained by Yoda - all the younglings were.

Who said they wanted to degrain everything? DNR is a tool just like any other video processing option, and it appears to have been applied selectively throughout the film. It's not a Universal-style 'set and forget' situation, thank God.

Whether it was done in post when actually making the movie and we just hadn't seen it before, or whether it was done after the fact to tie it in with the soft filtered look of Episodes II and III, doesn't change the obvious: there is blatant DNR at work. Add to that the slight edge halos and low quality of the extended footage (both of which were painfully apparent in the theatrical 3D version) and the Blu-ray PQ is all a bit disappointing to me.

Just watched The Phantom Menace last night and I've got to say WOW. I've only seen the first 3 episodes on cable. The last three I had on VHS. I've never been a real big fan of the first three, but after watching the last night I changed my mind. I thought The Phantom Menace had awesome AQ, can't wait to finish watching the complete trilogy.

Well the 3D version this weekend went over $40 million.

They had said if this did ok they would keep going with the rest of them.

What was the expected target....is that $$ enough for them to decide to keep going ?
