I agree that the additions to Jedi aren't very good, however I don't mind the Sarlacc pit being Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horrors. Thought that was a better upgrade than an anus in the sand... that swallowed people... Ewww. If Boba Fett didn't die when he first went in, I am sure he wanted to after getting out...lol

Anyway, I don't think Lucas was thinking how much $$ he could make on toys when he thought of Ewoks. He was actually thinking how much money he could save as they were supposed to be Wookies. That idea was too expensive, so he went with basically smaller versions, thus more economical and keeping the production within the budget.

However, the triumph of the Ewoks over the Empire was commentary about the Vietnam war (a technological inferior faction defeats a superior opponent). Also, you have to remember the Ewoks won that fight by luring the Imperials deeper into the Forest where they had traps (most likely traps made for killing large game, afterall it probably takes a big trap to feed that many lil teddy bears). They were getting their asses handed to them before they got the Imperials on 'home territory.'

However, the Battle of Endor (IMO) stands as one of the most brillant battle sequences ever filmed. The Space Battle, Ground war and the show down between Luke and Vader were all exceptionally well done. Loved it.

Best parts in the entire saga other than The Battle of Hoth and Luke vs. Vader in The Empire Strikes Back.

I guess the Ewok'ss the rebels originally encountered could have been Wookie children (lots of animals change fur colours as the mature), Lucas could have had older Wookies come to the rescue during the final battle. Their technology doesn't bother me either: they'd make a kick-ass tree-house!

I've never really hated the Ewok's and I always get moved when the Ewok goes back to check on his/her friend by shaking him to discover they've been fatally wounded....

Lucas has said many times, that his original idea was to have the second Death Star in orbit over the Wookiee homeworld of Kashykk, but I think budget contraints (combined with his ditching all the guilds after the "Empire" credits fiasco) probably derailed that plan. He eventually got to use the Wookiees in "Sith", so I guess it all worked out.

I think it also had to do with the wookies being established as tech savvy via Chewie.

Creating the ewoks supported his idea of a primitive race helping to defeat advanced enemies equipped with big bad technology.

So, YOU'RE the guy that started that!

I know there's no sense in trying to argue this issue one way or another at this point, but I get your pain and enjoy the Prequels, once again, like they were the offspring of a long-cherished, but deceased pet.

Grading on a very generous curve one could say it's a wash but that's largely because the Luke/Vader/Palps showdown was very, very good.

The space battle overall wasn't bad (and the distant shots from the Death Star's perspective were very good - that was very effective) but the centerpiece of that battle was terrible. Another trench run but this time inside the Death Star? Booooooooooooring. I have no quarrel with a signature chase of some sort (trench run in Star Wars, asteroid field in Empire, etc, etc) but not only had the trench run been done two movies ago, this was the third chase in Jedi alone. Yawn.

The ground battle? Terrible. Just terrible. Comic relief in the midst of battles is one thing, slapstick is quite another. The powers that be never settled on a tone and Harrison Ford's absolutely terrible performance torpedoed whatever shot they had at salvaging even shreds of gravitas. Metaphor or not, it was poorly conceived and even more poorly executed.

The Showdown? Top notch. Salvaged an otherwise mediocre-to-terrible movie (just to be claear, by salvaged I mean kept it from completely sucking...it didn't make it good or anything). Easily the best part of Jedi and right up there with the original Death Star attack or the duel in Empire.

Agreed. And for me the space battle is the best in the whole saga.

That maybe everyone's vote, but it was too slow for me. I like the space part of Battle of Endor the best, faster and more intense.

They're more like the gruesomely disfigured result of a failed cloning project. Kinda like Bizarro from the Superman comics, in many respects.

Know something? I'm sitting here finally watching the entire series on Blu-ray and while I was aware of the line of dialogue, I'm wondering how George Lucas completely forgot what the Jedi Knights were all about.

During the start of Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar Binks says "I Speak" to which Qui Gon Jinn replies, "the ability to speak does not make one intelligent". Since when do Jedi Knights make such derogatory comments in regards to sentient lifeforms? The Gungans are a very intelligent lifeform so I'm wondering how the Jedi Knight Order have such a low regard for such organic lifeforms who have the ability of speech?

I think that's an insult coming from a Jedi Knight as wise and experienced as Qui Gonn Jinn.

Lucas forgot about a lot of things when writing the prequels.

You might have miss the part where Yoda explain to them how the order as become arrogant, sure of itself, almost decadent in a certain way, as such that comment from Qui Gon is not so much out of place. You may want to go and watch it again.

I remember that part, it was in Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, I believe. At any rate, the level of someone's intelligence should not infer whether they are intelligent.

Intelligence has been defined in many different ways, including the abilities, but not limited to, abstract thought, understanding, self-awareness, communication, reasoning, learning, having emotional knowledge, retaining, planning, and problem solving.

Jar Jar expresses many of these qualities which makes me wonder how George Lucas could forget a very basic character trait that he created for the Jedi Knights during the Original Trilogy. I just find it odd that this would get by his editors. better yet, he wrote it, so how did he forget one of the basic tenets of the Jedi Order.

My argument is that Jar Jar has communication skills along with other skills such as reasoning, understanding and problem solving.

Maybe Ben Kenobi & Yoda's telling of the Jedi Knights to Luke Skywalker, was trying to fix what Yoda mentioned in the Prequels, that Jedis had become essentially a shell of there former selfs? This would be how Lucas would explain it anyway, but it is just poor writing, but I still like the Prequels(well the Lightsaber Battle in Episode I was the only good part).
