What's all the problem with the generations/years thing? They each refer to a different thing, one the Jedi the other the Republic... You know they're not the same thing right?

Haven't posted on this thread, theres is over 2000 pages, which I haven't read through, to see if this has been asked before..

I have held of buying this, thinking this can't be it. There must be a release round the corner which is either a) A big tin box set thing with collectables, a la Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, Indy. Or, b) Set includes original cuts.

Going by the VHS and DVDs releases, there were loads of reissues. New covers, new cuts, tin box set, etc.

I just can't believe this set would be the only release, going by Luca$ squeezing money out of fans for years.

And it is just to big and popular a franchise to settle on one?

So any news on a near future reissue of Star Wars?

The 3D verisions of the films would probably be the next release if there is going to be one. But that is several years out, so honestly, you might as well just get this one if it drops to a reasonable price.

They've changed the merchandising package from Darth Maul to Yoda in preparation for the release of Attack of the Clones. I believe we can expect to hear more about it in Celebration VI.

I wonder if Lucas can be bothered to fix the color of Luke's lightsaber In A New Hope when he gets around to releasing it it 3D? He changes things that need to be left alone yet he has had 4 chances to make it blue.

Out of all the Box Office releases I have on bluray, this one will always be devoid of my shelf space until George changes his mind. Until then, I will avoid this purchase (no matter what the price or how low it goes) until we see, what most people want to see, THE ORIGINAL VERSIONS OF THE TRILOGY. If I need a Star Wars fix, I have no choice but to head to YouTube, and enjoy the full unaltered/tinkered flick, that should have otherwise been released by now. O well, I'll wait, and I'll wait...even if it never comes, George is not getting $1 for Star wars from me.

I second this comment. I bought the DVDs 6 years ago, which I was disappointed. I have not bought anything Star Wars since then.

I'd love to see a revisionist sequel (although it would be totally inconsistent with the expanded universe) that demonstrates in retrospect that the Jedi were completely misguided and incompetent. The film could be about a much older Luke's emotional trauma over this realization as perhaps he discovers the history as told in the prequels. Maybe the older Luke gives up being a Jedi because of this, but his son/daughter (or grandchildren) rediscover the myth of the Jedi and want to become one.

Or...Luke post Episode VI is not trusted when it becomes general knowledge that Vader was his father. He's tried for war crimes and has to prove his innocence. And maybe he discovers in the end that Vader was not his father after all...that Padame in her distress had an affair with another Jedi who we didn't know about and who was killed in the Jedi slaughter in Episode III.

Or...the man who Luke confronted at the end of Episode VI turns out not to have been Darth Vader, but a semi-mechanical clone with major imperfections. Which is why he seems to have no memory of anything that happened to him in Episodes I to III, other than knowing who Obi Wan Kenobi is (yet showing no emotion when he meets him, even though Kenobi destroyed his physical body 20 years before.)

I bought the original trilogy DVD set, day one. Then a couple of years later (I Think?) I bought single releases as a 2 disc limited edition which had the remastered (same as the set I had bought) and disc 2 was the untouched version..

Or did I understand that wrong?

This is the sort of thing I'd like on Blu, with original poster art for each

For my money the single biggest missed opportunity in the prequels wasn't too far from this.

Instead of the silly and superficial 'Anakin turned to save Padme' storyline they could have put him in a real box and forced him to make a real choice between two competing ideologies.

They came close with his conversations with Padme (and you sound like a separatist) and Palpatine (the Jedi only want to preserve their own power) but it was largely too little, too late.

To be fair, they had a lot of audiences to play to (including kids which isn't a bad thing) so it would have been tricky to go that route without making the whole thing some 'West Wing in Space' political debate but there was so much potential there it's hard not to wonder about what could have been.

That's what the prequels are for
