Everything else in the entire frame was absolutely flawless and crystal clear. Is this normal? I don't know if it's always been that way. I really hadn't noticed until this last viewing.
Does anyone know what this is? I'm kinda a noob in this territory. I just noticed this while watching The Dark Knight as well, in the scene that the batmobile takes out the garbage truck. All of the grain/noise or whatever it is, is all inside the garbage truck. The rest of the shot and the objects in it are fine.

In original Star Wars films, the grain is often localised on the outer skirts of moving objects because the DNR was tracking stable imagery (which would require the same parameters frame after frame) and comparing it against moving imagery (which requires different parameters as the foreground object is shifting).

I have to say, like the rest of the 2004 restorations, this wasn't a fault on Reliance Media's part. They're just a contract company and were rushed into the job by Lucasfilm/Fox.

I don't get where some are making a big deal out of the matte boxes or the film gain taken out of the OT for the blu-ray's or the sound mixes. It's the same comments they took too much of the film grain out or who knows what or the film's do not sound right. It is what it is on the blu-ray's deal with it. If you don't like on the blu-ray's of the OT that's fine and you have a right to your opinions but don't make a big issue out of it.

So, the frozen grain on MGM's Bonds, notably the 4K OCN scan of Moonraker, was that also because Lowry were rushed into it? Or did MGM ask them for frozen grain?

When even self-confessed "noobs" start to notice artefacts like that, they've gotta be pretty damned obvious. Face it, Lowry/Reliance/whoever's methods were clearly flawed at that point in time, no matter what sources they were working with or however long they had on the project.

NOW the company kicks arse because they've got a handle on authentic grain replacement; Aliens is a joy to behold on Blu-ray. But that doesn't excuse the mistakes of the past...

You know, I looked for garbage mattes when I watched A New Hope yesterday and apart from 1 shot which was gone when I blinked I couldn't see anything that resembled the garbage mattes from Episode VI (those brown ones).

Who cares if they make a big issue of it, particularly if by "big issue" you mean "post their opinion on a forum".

I think we all need to step away from the forum and go "...watch Star Wars the Complete Saga on 1080p blu ray mixed in 6.1 surround sound on Sept 14th!"

Ahem... I know, I am dick. LOL.

And you better be excited about it or else!

I'm excited to watch ESB in a few minutes in 1080p, mixed in DTS HD 6.1 surround sound going from a Pioneer BDP-LX55 bitstreamed whilst the 1080p will be handled by my 1080p capable tv on this 23rd of July. This day will be long remembered. All of your bickering about garbage mattes is pointless. Did I mention I was excited? I mean, it's Star Wars! On Blu-ray! I would almost forget to actually watch the movie. There is however no escape

People who complain about Lucas are sad. Every one should just suck it up and enjoy the substandard product he gives you.

Same for me, I think maybe I noticed it in one frame, and since there are 24 frames a second, it wasn't too bad .

To talk about the prequels, I thought I liked them, and I bought the complete set, but as I age, I compare them more to the OT and just well made movies in general, and I end up skipping over them. I still think we will see the UOT one day, I mean what else is George going to have up his sleeve for the 50th anniversary anyway?

I enjoy yes I said I enjoy the star wars complete saga blu-ray's and watch them all the time on my mitsubishi 60-inch 1080p DLP and listen to them on my Onkyo TX-SR308 Surround Sound System and Yamaha 5.1 speaker systems with a subwoofer and I use the PS3 slim as my main blu-ray disc player. And I like all the films yes even the prequels. The star wars prequel films are great. Are their flaws with them sure there is but they do have heart and most important of all they are awesome and they are good films.

It's frustrating not have this set in my collection. To think my parents almost bought me it for me for my 21st birthday last year, in which I told them not to because of the situation regarding the edits and all that crap, and they gave me this face expression that clearly read "Your loss".

Agreed are blu-rays perfect no but there the best the star wars films has ever looked on any home video format. Fans are just not satisfied with anything GL puts out and the ones who complain about Lucas just do it to complain.
