A perfect example of what Lucas should have done. The only bad part of his edit was putting the theme for the Anakin/Ben fight in RotS into ANH, but I seem to remember him regretting that (not sure if it's been changed). As far as my opinion goes, I prefer the unaltered versions but if you want an "enhanced" Star Wars, go for Adywan's edits.
The Imperial March was also a bit too much IMO (during the Yavin Battle). The problem is that Adywan makes some good changes (such as making the Death Star Plans look a bit more advanced and with the red colour) but he also throws in changes which are far more distracting than a No at the end of ROTJ IMO.

You may see them as distracting, but he at least kept the characters intact. You are also comparing Lucasfilm to an individual who obviously took more love and care in creating an SE than it's creator. It is a FAN EDIT. No telling what he could have done if he had what Lucas had at his disposal.

Does anyone know where I can find the documentary:
"From Star Wars to Star Wars: The Story of Industrial Light and Magic"?

I would love to have it in HD, preferably downloadable.
Please PM if, if it's too tricky to disclose here.

I wish those had been included in the set.

I would totally buy a BD with the story of ILM. In an instance!!!

Soerry mate. Skip forward to 5:08 and you will see what we mean by him doing it better!

No more of this "Stand By" BS. Plus the added effect just before the Death Star explodes *spoiler - sorry* makes the drama just that more palpitable.

Here is another clip about how Empire has been changed slightly. Notice the blueish snow is GONE! More AT-ATs in the distance.

I honestly prefer this guys work more to Lucas' vision.

This might be an odd question, but its an original theatrical release question, and also a laserdisc question for all you collectors out there.

How much does the video quality differ between the two laser disc releases, the first set being:

and the second set being:

Is there a drastic difference in video quality? I can get all three of the original laserdisc releases for a decent price so I was just curious if I should go for it or go after the second release.

I've ask a similar question over at the laserdisc thread, but asking the difference between the second set and the definitive set. If I were you and chasing down the two sets you posted, I'd go after the second set. Which is probably what I'm going to do if I go this route. I do believe Lucas actually went back and improved the sound and picture quality of them. From what I've heard, this is the same set of movies that the definitive set has, just minus the extras. Which most likely are on the DVD or BD sets anyway. What I'd like to know is how these look compared to the DVD release that Lucas put out with his SE DVD versions?

Hmmm, I can get the OT first laserdisc releases for about $50 altogether, but if the video quality is quite better on the 'faces' versions perhaps I should save my money and track those ones down individually?

Any input folks?

I think the THX ones as I like to call them or the faces are the better set. I never seen them in action I have the old set that came out in 1988 I think I am not sure they have the same cover art as the VHS from the 80's. I think the face one are probably your best purchase unless you can track down the box set in black?

I would go for the "Faces" addition. Apparently those older '89 editions were taken from earlier Japanese laserdisc transfers and at least the original movie has some aspect-ratio problems.

Plus you can watch those great interviews with Lucas on the "Faces" set, where he considers maybe directing the first Star Wars prequel himself to setup the other directors who tackle the other two
