Not sure, but I believe that howl has changed several times over the years on home video versions.

Being completely digital it was more than likely easier to convert the image.

Excellent move on the part of Lucasfilm. I think they suspected, much like the rest of us, that ATOC may not perform so well on its own, and having the stronger 3rd film released a month later might help it perform a bit better. Not saying ATOC sucks, but it is commercially speaking the weakest of the Saga. Would also open the door for them to do entire PT screenings much like the recent Avengers, Batman and soon to be Indy Marathons.

I honestly would not be surprised to see them release the OT 3D slate much like the special editions back in 1997 (like a month apart, Jan, Feb, and March).

Also, I think it might show their plans for the eventual Blu release as a 3D trilogy as well. You would suspect that TPM 3D would come out next Sept OR they could wait and do a PT box set instead as that might make more sense and be easier to produce one box set instead of stand alone titles. But who knows?

Agreed.

Although I would like to see the OT in non-3D at the big screen when they eventually come out. I believe Phantom Menace was still playing in non 3D earlier in the year, right? Looking forward to seeing Raiders at Imax in a couple of weeks!!!

I'd like a complete restorative overhaul for the OT suitable for IMAX viewing, 3D or not.

You were at Celebration VI as well? Wasn't it a blast?

I agree about being amazed at the Episode II footage. Though intentionally done so, the depth in Episode I was far too subtle and underwhelming, but luckily for Episode II they are now implementing an "artistic depth" approach as oppossed to 100% accurate depth. If I recall, John Knoll was the one who supervised the 3D conversion for Episode I. However, Episode II's conversion is being supervised by Dennis Muren who has a different philosophy than Mr. Knoll when it comes to 3D. The difference in quality between the two conversions are like night and day. The few scenes they showed looked as good if not better than the 3D in Titanic.

As a side note, my picture with the Emperor himself.

Yes it was! It was fascinating watching the whole process how they post convert the footage. The OT is definitely going to be more of a challenge than Episodes II and III. I'd venture to guess that we can expect a lot more "updated" effects for the OT to make the conversion process easier when the time comes. Mark my words.

Glad to see this thread back. It's why I come to these forums.

Happy to hear II and III are being released back-to-back. I didn't want to wait a year between those... Bring on the OT! Never seen them in theaters. It'll be a big thing for me.

Ditto, it is my favourite topic on this forum . Glad to hear they will incorporate more 3D effects in this one. Whilst I don't need every single object in the screen to be thrown at me Ep.1 was so subtle you barely noticed it was 3D at times. I'm quite excited to see AOTC and ROTS again on the big screen anyway, just as I'm interested in seeing the OT for the first time in the cinema..

Question about ep. 3's opening battle sequences. Ahem, channels script writers from "The Big Bang Theory"...

1. It seems illogical for those enormous opposing battleships to be within such terribly close proximity. It allows the opponent to inflict a huge amount of damage with very little skill in firing.

2. In these battleship vs. battleship sequences, why don't the 'shields' work? A single laser blast is enough to tear an entire battleship in half. Shouldn't the shield be activated? Why don't they take extra precautions in light of these horrific consequences?

3. What happens if a ship flies into an energy shield? In ep. 1, laser blasts carom off an energy shield. But what happens if a ship flies into a shield?

Tactically, smaller ships navigating between larger vessels to generate friendly fire damage. Ala, Calrissian suggestion to Ackbar in RotJ.

Shields drain, or have their generators destroyed. Why single shots pass through an entire ship, I have nfi... maybe structural integrity was already compromised.

Energy shields... kinda like magnets, how do they work? I'd guess it be all about overcoming force of deflection or something, a large enough mass with enough velocity could force its way through with some damage. A smaller ship might be obliterated...

... but all these questions are academic and irrelevant as they pertain to a prequel movie and not a real Star Wars movie.

1 has been answered. 2: Probably because either the shield isn't strong enough to deflect the blast (the shield of a smaller ship will most likely be less strong in comparision to bigger ships) or it has lost it's shields due to constant fire. The battle was raging on for quite a while when Anakin + Obi arrived so the latter isn't far fetched.

3. Depends if the shield blocks physical objects, which we don't know. If it does, the attacking ship is disintegrated most likely. If it doesn't, the attacking ship will simply collide with the other ship and do hull damage according to it's size.
