It's really that simple.

Right, Steven wants to please everyone. He and George are very different in that respect.

I want to make sure I'm reading this right, are you saying that GL doesn't care about his fans?

Revisionist history does little to help anyone's argument.
All the films were collaborative efforts, with lots of people involved, but Lucas was the boss, and everyone knew it. His word was final.

People are just ticked because unlike some folks, Lucas is doing things his own way, instead of theirs. I wouldn't mind having a fully restored copy of the theatricals, but I'm not going to whine and complain about a lack of it.

This is very true. The Flannel Man can indeed continue to destroy his legacy any way he so chooses. It's just too bad that he does.

What I'll do is maybe let her see the blu ray of Star Wars and Empire and then switch to the DVD Non-special edition of Return of the Jedi so she doesn't see the "Nooooo" and Hayden C's ghost at the end.

Ahh, the power of being a parent

So, Steven Spielberg cares about his fans and his films to the degree that he restores them to the original unaltered intent. Rather than just putting CGI in a film now that doesn't need it or benefit from it simply because he can.

Gotcha.

This is why Spielberg shits all over Lucas as a director.

no no no don't you understand. Spielberg is just a cowering figure scared of a few whiny a$$ fans and doesn't do what he REALLY wants with his pictures unlike Lord George

I highly doubt he sees the changes as being of any inherent damage to his legacy. I don't even think he made the prequels for the money; he has more than enough as it is. The licensing was still going strong after almost 20 years, so he didn't have to make them if he didn't want to.

I don't worship George Lucas, or fawn over every decision he makes, but I don't think its right for folks to condemn him personally over them. In the end, they're his movies, that he created to entertain people with common themes in storytelling...and it worked. If folks get angry over the different versions, they can either put up or shut up. Anything else won't make much of a difference.

Truth hurt?

You may think it's garbage, but please do compare Spielberg to Lucas and show me where Lucas even comes close to touching Spielberg's career. Spielberg is a master filmmaker while Lucas, as much as I love Star Wars, is an amateur by comparison.

Those are just cold hard facts. You may not like it, but that doesn't change it.

Just because one director chooses to do different than another, that doesn't mean they care less about their fans. Lucas has said many times how grateful he is to those who enjoy "Star Wars", but his vision for the saga takes top priority.

His vision for the saga? That would be a lot easier to believe if he didn't make alterations and tweaks with every release of the films. Back in 1998 when he spoke of new scenes and effects for the OT it was one thing, now it just seems like every couple of years he has a fresh batch of changes. Now, I really have no problem with that or Lucas, but lets not BS each other here and call it like it is. Also, let's not tear down Steven Spielberg in an attempt to defend Lucas because an argument on that foundation will crumble and fall.

Imagine if Ridley Scott only released The Final Cut version of Blade Runner on Blu-Ray? I rest my case.

No. Mods just delete your post if they don't like it. They are like the puppet-masters of conversation.

It'd be like pre-recording a presidential debate and editing out anything potentially harming to the candidate they want to win, then air it. That is not a nightmare, that is POWER!!!
