I compare Lucas to a drug dealer. He has a product that EVERYONE likes and needs in their life, so he gets to a point that he really doesn't need to provide you with the "best", just something to keep us coming back to the door with cash.

Honestly, if you think that the Blu Ray box set was the best "product" that he could offer us, you are sadly mistaken. No matter if you think "georgie boi" can walk on water or not. I am not griping about the changes as much as the quality of the transfers. I can take the "NOOOOOOOOOOOO's" and stupid changes, but they should at least not be DNR'd or have frozen grain.

At least Spielberg is giving us a new transfer on "raiders of the lost ark" (it is a shame we are not getting TOD or SFTHG). I would bet that ROTLA has made only 3% of the money that the Star Wars franchise has made and it gets more respect. Whose fault is that? It sure as hell isn't mine! So I need to blame someone.....

You are right, the transfers on the set are nigh unwatchable. It's like watching a bad non-anamorphic DVD, and at times borders on VHS quality.

I sold my set right after watching the set for the first time.

Who is Weldon ? LOL! (just messing with you). I assume you mean Whedon. I'm almost certain Uncle George will eventually release the OOT remastered in BRay. My guess would be he'll release another boxed set & perhaps singles in the 3D format. Then he'll release the remastered OOT. And most of the people complaining on this board will be suckers and buy. More than likely myself included LOL!

I held out and held out, and then last week, after a year, i bought the complete Star Wars set. I'd read that it didn't look the greatest due to the blu's being done from a 2K scan only, and some of the new additions by GL didn't sit well.

I have just finished watching them and i have to say i'm mighty impressed. The original trilogy looks and sounds amazing, and the prequels scrub up nicely too, except for TPM which looks like its from Madame Tussauds!

The extras, from what i've seen, are a good trip down memory lane and worth the extra to have them.

I'm giving this release a big and now i want the original trilogy on blu, unaltered, just for old times sake! C'mon George, you can do it!

Ghost edit. Lucas was an ace editor in his own right (The Godfather ring a bell?). The novelization of the film which was ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster follows the film scene for scene...and was out seven months before the film was in theaters. The novel's out and the film still in editing and post production mind you.

This re-writing of history needs to end.

I would just like to point out that a) the novel contained scenes and references not in the final film and b) there's more to the art of editing than just an arrangement of scenes. The book could match the movie scene for scene and the movie could still be poorly edited. There's a difference between reading prose and watching film. Good editing is all about shot selection, pacing, and eliciting emotional responses. Through artful editing you can create suspense, laughter, or excitement in a scene where none existed before. I'm not saying George is a good or bad editor, only that the layout of the novelization has no real bearing on what the final product of the movie was.

Alright guys, you seem to know exactly what Lucas should do. So let's tackle this here. Say there will be a remastered original trilogy released on blu.

What to/not to include:
1. SE changes.
2. Removing the mattes.
3. Standardized lightsaber hues.
4. Color, saturation.
5. Ep IV vs just "Star Wars"

You guys will think of more.

No.

An editor in England did the first assembly, mostly while the film was still being shot and on his own, and Lucas hated it, and couldn't get across to the man what he wanted. The man was not retained and the edit was started over when production returned to California.

It was not a "George Lucas cut".
