I am sure in tiny print at the bottom of the contract it will state "if the original theatrical editions of the first trilogy are released in any form this contract becomes null and void".

I think Disney should not add another episode. They should just reboot or something. Leave the Star Wars saga how Lucas left it and start over fresh.

I'm all for some new episodes as long as they're free to go PG, PG-13 as they please to bring some intensity to the films when necessary.

I don't knowabout this acquisition. I feel a disturbance in the Force. The last time I felt this was when Darth Emmnuel became mayor of Chicago.

Now that the property has been pried from curmudgeonly old Lucas' hands, hopefully Disney will release the OT theatrical cuts on Blu-ray and not go heavy on the noise reduction. If we could get the original films looking as good as the Indiana Jones box set, that would be a dream come true.

Okay, this community has officially went to the spammers.

Did anyone catch the "movies" forum and sub-forums? Other members have created three separate topics on the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm and Star Wars. The spammers have finally arrived. lols

I'll still love the original prequel and original trilogies. lols I'm still a Han Solo and Luke Skywalker fan.

Today, though, the inner child revives, and Mark Hamill’s agent is likely doing cartwheels – not only did Disney just buy Lucasfilm in a four billion dollar deal, but they also announced they’re targeting Star Wars Episode VII for 2015. That’s right: Star Wars Episode VII, to be followed not just by VIII and IX, but “a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years,” according to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

LOL!!!!

Hoping for unaltered HD editions of the OT was one of the first things I hoped for when hearing this news. Your comment, though not out of the realm of possibility would be a real HUGE bummer to me.

Here's hoping Episodes 7-9 don't suck!

No keep JJ away from Star Wars, he ruined Trek to a number (not all ) of us fans. unless of course he were to leave Trek to do Star Wars lol

Holy SHIT. Didn't see that coming. No wonder Lucasfilm are speeding up the release of the 3D versions of II and III, they want to get them out of the way for Episode VII!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!

Ive been saying ever since the 3D re releases were announced that we would be seeing an announcement for sequel trilogy made around 2016, much in the same manner the prequel trilogy was announced witht the 20th anniversary theatrical re releases.
Just never suspected we would see GL close up shop and walk away.

And What happens to the "Live Action" star wars series now? Ive thought it was a smoke screen for a few years now hiding pre production on the sequel trilogy. I wonder if now that Ep 7 has been announced if that series will quietly be forgotten.

I also wonder what is up with GL. hopefully he is ok healthwise, as a friend of mine also suggested perhaps in a few weeks there will be a release announcing that GL has been diagnosed with something life threatening, especially if you read through the press release and see his quote about star wars living beyond him and wanting to set up the transition in his lifetime.
Hopefully he is ok though, I have a lot of respect for the guy.

I'm excited. A new Star Wars movie every two years ... to quote the immortal words of Steve Austin: "Can I get a 'Hell Yeah'"?

I'd love to see an Episode VII. Don't need the whole original cast... or even most of it. I'd be happy with just Mark Hamill in an Obi-wan style role training a bunch of new Jedi. It'd be nice if they didn't discard the EU but they shouldn't be overly beholden to it, either. A "certain PoV" and all that gives plenty of room for the novels and comics to be the star wars universe equivalent of The Onion and Enquirer as much as CBS or NBC News, which is much the same things these days (lol Brokaw).

Here's the thing: Disney will take care of it and they know about how fans feel about it. Who knows, 4k restoration of the unedited trilogy!
