I hope this rumored 7th film never comes to fruition....

I'm usually all for remakes/reboots, but this is one I absolutely do not want...

And what's going to happen with the 3D theatrical runs for the 5 remaining films.

Do you think it would be wise to sell my star wars blu-ray set?

I'm still deciding if this will increase or decrease the chances of seeing the UOT.

If Disney owns Lucasfilms do they also own the stuff in the vaults?

We will see thr UOT for sure now. probably for the 50th anniversary in 2017 tho, or a complete box set.

But does Disney actually own the rights to the UOT?

There full scoop isn't really out yet, for all we know they could just own the most recent 2012 versions of the 6 films.

I'm not really sure how these kinds of deals work, but does having the rights to Star Wars (1977) come as a "package deal" including all previous iterations of the film?

And it's another thing to actually have access to the original negatives. Would all that have been included as well?

It's not a rumor. It's anounced and happening right now, two hired screenwiters are already working on it with Kathleen Kennedy is executive producer. Star Wars movies spend 2 years in post-production, they could be shooting Episode VII next year.

I'm thinking, here we go again. I spent 10 years following the developments of the prequels everyday, the plot speculations, teaser images, etc. I was so young. For a movie geek like me, it's time to get busy again. It'll be fun.

If this results in the unaltered trilogy being released on Blu-Ray, then I'm all for it.

Ditto.

Its been 20 years since I read the books, but Thrawn Trilogy seems like a nice place to start... They could easily slide the timeline to fit an older original cast allowing them to branch to the future.

Then again, there is this option:

With regards to the current Blu-ray set, hopefully they'll rebrand it as The Incomplete Saga.

I would really love it if they cast the new Star Wars films with unknown talent and stayed away from any of the popular and well recognized movies stars we are all familiar with. Think it will go a long way to bringing authenticity to whatever they churn out and hopefully they'll make some effort to capture the magic of Episode IV and V which actually focus on quality story telling while at the same time not offering up any ridiculous characters which add nothing to the story and are only there to entertain small children. Would also love to see less CGI where possible and a return to more old school techniques as were used in the original trilogy. No matter how far CGI has come I still find the world created by the original "unaltered" trilogy to be "far" more tangible than that of the prequels which relied heavily on CGI.

Yes, Disney doesn't make disturbing films. Disney only anthropomorphizes an animal until we love it, then kills it (Bambi's mother and Dumbo's mother).

Or tells stories about how all step-parents are inherently evil and want to kill their step-children, especially if they're beautiful.

Or encourages them to run away to Never Never Land. Or drink an unknown substance from a bottle labeled "Drink Me". And then adds a character who spends a lot of time cutting people's heads off.

Or makes pirate movies with hundreds of violent deaths (and where many characters are the living dead).

Or has amusement parks where cartoon characters on a gigantic scale wearing large fuzzy costumes scare the hell out of toddlers.

Or makes a kid kill his dog (Old Yeller).

Yes, Disney never made disturbing films. They just made films that kids watch and then later in life, need years of therapy to work out.

Besides, the new Star Wars releases won't be under the Disney banner. They'll still be under the Lucasfilm banner just as Pixar films are under the Pixar banner.

Something isn't right here. Where's Beast? Why hasn't he come along yet and tried to fend off all the people hoping for the possibility of the original versions now being released?
