There full scoop isn't really out yet, for all we know they could just own the most recent 2012 versions of the 6 films.

I'm not really sure how these kinds of deals work, but does having the rights to Star Wars (1977) come as a "package deal" including all previous iterations of the film?

And it's another thing to actually have access to the original negatives. Would all that have been included as well?
I"m thinking Disney probably owns the whole enchilada, they didn't just buy "Star Wars" or rights to Star Wars 2011 and all future versions, they bought Lucasfilms LTD. So unless George carved out a nice deal for himself to keep a vault of the original materials, I feel pretty good about Disney now owning everything.

Unfortunately my guess is they will do a re-issue within a year, but it will probably just be the exact same discs with the Disney logo stamped on. Hopefully this is at least good news for a "next-gen" 4K release of the theatricals - maybe those will finally be rid off all the George Lucas tinkering.

I found an article which said that 20th Century Fox owned the distribution rights to A New Hope in perpetuity and the rights to the other five until 2020. Here's a link to the article. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...-tie-up-384541

Disney will make a deal, or with Lucas having sold the rights, fox will sell an UOT set. They are not stupid.

Oh no, he's way ahead of you. He's already saying the UOT has been a done deal for years.

The Creator has wanted it all along, you see.

It appears that Lucas was working on the next trilogy for a while, and he has entrusted Kathleen Kennedy to further his vision. Once this trilogy wraps up, additional Star Wars films may be planned. Here's the video of Lucas explaining his vision of the franchise moving forward during the official announcement and signing (begins at the 4:20 mark):

For anyone thinking Star Wars is too "disturbing" for Disney...

I give you...

Color of Night.

Look it up if you don't know. not a "Disney" movie but a subsidiary... and about as disturbing of a movie as you can think of.

I have three words for Disney: Story. Story. Story.

Please get this right. Maybe get them Pixar boys to help out. They could stir the emotions of a granite boulder.

Actuially, Lucas wasn't working on a new trilogy. He only had a basic rough treatment for a trilogy that he hasn't worked on a some time. He merely passed on all of his notes to Kathleen Kennedy. Techdirt reported on this and linked to a site with a video interview of Lucas and Kennedy in which they talk about this.

As far as JJ Abrams goes? If JJ Abrams comes anywhere near these Star Wars films or the Star Wars property, I will burn my entire Star Wars collection and swear off this forever. I have no intention of watching:

Star Wars: Attack of the !Documentary! #Lens Flare#

ACK!!! Lens Flares and shaky documentary film making ... forget it ... keep JJ away from Star Wars. Last we know it, Slusho and Cloverfield will appear in the film. No way. Absolutely not.

Anyone who doesn't want JJ near Star Wars, raise your hands. lols

Well, considering the ridiculous direction Lucas has taken the Star Wars movies, Disney couldn't really do much worse! Although, I do foresee them spamming the hell out of the franchise and making it even more ridiculous than Lucas ever did.

Disney won't let that happen. There is too much money to be made releasing the OOT. Now that Lucas is out of the way our chances are even better, IMO.

Pixar has done some good stuff in the past but they are a little past their sell-by date, IMO. They are still a visuals-driven company and Star Wars may be too much for them. Bettre stick to zainy, gimmicky kid stuff.

Well, he might not be as bad as some directors. I pointed out another thread that I dont want a veteran director that will try to jam their own ideas and style in there. I dont want a hack either. Maybe an up and coming director that doesnt have an ego or an agenda? I dunno - just stay away from the clowns please.
